Here me out, Canelo is a BIG BOY...Walking around weight of 170....Young, he's 22 or 23....He body has plenty of time to balloon.
Lets say if he continues unbeaten....assuming that Ward does not move up to LHW, it's very possible that a clash between unbeaten champs are possible.
Fighters don't always grow bigger. Canelo has no weight making problems now and he said he has no plans to go to middleweight unless he does outgrow that weight class. Canelo was a pro at 15 years old so he matured early apparently. Canelo might fight at 154 until he retires. Marvin Hagler was a middleweight when he turned pro at 19 years old and he was still a middleweight when he retired at about 34 years old. Hagler never had a bit of trouble making 160. I could list lots more fighters that stayed at the same weight from the time they turned pro in their late teens or early twenties until they retired in their thirties.
Your right but not completely, while hagler was a middle his whole career, he also didn't cut weight, "same day weigh ins". Hagler was also know to walk around 160-163. While canelo obviously walks around 170 plus. Canelo's stamina is no good, reason being is making/cutting to much weight. Also Ward came in fight night vs Dawsonv@ 174 I believe while Dawson was 185. So Ward also walks around his fighting weight. BHop his entire career @ muddle weight never gain more than 163-165 on fight night. His was lighter than Tito, and in his first fight vs RJJ he was 10 punds lighter than RJJ, RJJ is on record saying how much bigger he was than BHop. The weight cutting is hindering canelo, just look a his stamina. That's a key

I have trouble seeing Canelo being any good at 160 nevermind 168, where potentially the best fighter in the world is.
Maybe if he becomes the best fighter at 154 i'd go along with it
