De La Hoya has stated that Canelo wants the Mayweather fight. If this fight happens in the next two years, during Mayweather's 6-fight Showtime deal.. who wins?
If I'm Mayweather's camp, this fight goes down at 147, and if that means they have to give up a little extra cash to make that happen, then so be it..
It's not completely impossible since Alvarez fought at 147 for years, he even started at 140. But he would probably be weight-drained if he went down now, he hasn't fought at 147 since 2010. I doubt Mayweather would make him go back down either, he wanted to face Cotto at 154 - the weight Cotto was comfortable at, so there could be no excuses after the fight.
Floyds camp need to make Canelo come down to 147 and fith at welterweight. Why should Floyd fight at a weight disadvantage. Floyd have to go up to 154 to get the De La Hoya fights and Cotto fights. Cotto was being pursued by Arum and Pac so Mayweather had to make the weight compromise to land Cotto. He doesn't need to make that concession against Canelo.
If I'm Mayweather's camp, this fight goes down at 147, and if that means they have to give up a little extra cash to make that happen, then so be it. Putting Floyd (small to avg. welterweight who tops out at 152 or so) against a dude that will probably be fighting at MW in a year or two, and enters the ring at 172 is just stupid. We all know Floyd isn't great at 154. He needs to stay at 147....or at a catchweight of 150 max. Actually, I'd like to see Floyd fight both Canelo and Martinez at 150.
It would be like the mayweather-cotto fight only 10x times harder. Infact i see canelo having a 50/50 chance of beating floyd. Canelo would be able to fight at a pace he likes against floyd and plant his feet when he throws. The kid can crack and his timing and speed is very underrated.
This again. Canelo beats Floyd. Not because of skill but size and age. He'll have 25lbs over Floyd plus he's younger and can crack. Floyd is more stationary now so he'll really be at a huge disadvantage in this fight. If he turns it down I wouldn't be mad at him. And don't bring up him fighting Cotto and Oscar. Cotto is not a real 154lb fighter like Canelo and Floyd was still the much smaller man in the Cotto fight. At least in the Oscar fight he had his legs, but that was YEARS ago.
Canelo stoppage in 10rd. Floyd retires or declares a rematch then gets KO'd.
Not a good fight for him at his age. If he shows up as the old Floyd in the Guerrero fight I might change my tune, but anyone with some sense can tell this is a bad fight for him at this stage.
Floyd has fought both Oscar and Cotto at 154. Are we going to give him the same bull**** benefit of doubt as we did Pac?
If you can fight at 154 you can fight everyone at 154. It kind of comes with the territory of being the perceived best fighter active.
What are the alternatives? Kell Brook and Devon Alexander? GTFO. I'm a boxing fan. Floyd is a favorite over Canelo. Why not fight him?
Floyd sure as hell was not 147lbs against Cotto in the ring. 152-154 probably.
People used to criticize Floyd for considering fighting Canelo, and now that Canelo has proven he's legit now we're gonna find excuses for Floyd not to fight him?
"Too big"
"Wants too much money"
"Trout wasn't good to begin with"
"Canelo will have corrupt judges"
This is just day one, can't wait to see what's said if the Ghost beats him or makes Floyd look bad.
Stamina issues against Floyd is never a good thing. I think Canelo makes it fun early but mayweather eventually picks him apart. Last night wasn't a great perfomance. An accurate puncher like Floyd is landing most of those shots last night. Add that with what looked like bad stamina and Floyd wins. Only problem would be Canelos weight, so no ko/tko win for Floyd but a UD is more likely. God I hope Floyd fights him.
Mayweather came down to 147lbs on fight night against Cotto, he stated this. He was 147lbs in the ring.
Last night Canelo weighed 172lbs, so you could have a potential 25lbs weight advantage, which is MASSIVE at Welterweight-light middleweight. Looking at what Cotto, a past prime Cotto, did to Mayweather, I would say Canelo would get the decision.
I don't see Canelo stopping Money flat out, but I think Mayweather could take a knee 1 or 2 times during the fight. This is based upon the fight happening in September. If it happens at the end of Floyd's 6 fight deal with showtime, Canelo definitely IMO.
Absolutely not. Mayweather gave Cotto a weight advantage and was clearly sick throughout the week prior to the fight. People tend to forget that. At this point Canelo will be competitive, sure, but he will not get a victory over mayweather.
alvarez would get outclassed....but he could make it a difficult fight for floyd just based on being the bigger guy (came in at 172lbs which is huge). so if he could impose his size then maybe the fight might be slightly more competitive.
Unless mayweather gets severely old overnight, this is his fight.
You think he's showing signs of getting old? He did take more shots than usual against Cotto and to me his legs aren't quite as quick. Against Marquez he looked real quick but let's be honest - Marquez was dead at the weight for that fight because he was very poorly conditioned.

Close fight that Canelo may be winning going into RD 7 or 8. Then Floyd wins the rest and wins a UD.
Canelo's stamina will be exploited.
Can't wait for this fight, the bold will not happen, especially not the way we saw in his last fight. Canelo's timing, counter punching and defense will prove dangerous in my opinion.
Canelo will give Floyd more trouble than anyone else has in many years.
Floyd wins though. If he doesn't take the fight i'll be extremely disappointed with him.
It will be the world and Canelo VS Mayweather
No way Mayweather won't face Canelo, Pac would have a shot vs May than Canelo, lets forget about the fight and move on. I would like to see Trout vs May though,
