Hey, You shut your mouth!
Rocky is a classic!
Adriaaannnnnn!!!!!!!!!.......Your a Bum, This guys gonna spit nails!!........You cant win, you saw how strong he was, its suicide!, .....if he dies, he dies........
I liked Rocky movies, but man they threw any defense out of the window. I don't think I saw one shoulder roll or a fighter catching his opponents gloves once in all five movies I watched.
Rocky showed some decent defense for about ten seconds in the final round against Drago and one round against Clubber Lang. He also managed to slip some of Apollo's jabs.
Now the first fight with Clubber was ridiculous. Pretty sure both guys landed every single punch they threw.
So much wisdom here. No chin. No heart. He knew he couldn't beat Drago, so he died. It's the ultimate excuse to avoid a rematch.
i mean it appeared that they were using 15 ounce gloves or so and he keels over and dies from 1 and a half rounds of punishment. unbelievable...

Yeah, someone should go to his grave be like "Yo, why you ducking fool"???
his chin was pure glass. he was almost ko'd in 1 round by a journeyman(rocky) then he gets ko'd(dies) in under 2 rounds by drago who won zero pro fights and couldn't take out an old shot rocky. i have a feeling he was only undefeated because he fought bums like wach and pianetta for years.

Exactly. He was a sucker for the steroid-charged overhand right.

creed was a flashy overrated bum. he quit after losing 1 fight just like hamed. then he died in his comeback exhibition fight. over-rated.

How could anyone not like Rocky? One of the most inspirational movies of all time. I'm man enough to admit that I get choked up every time Rocky goes the distance. All he wanted to do was prove he wasn't just another bum from the streets.
I should have been clear. They all spend long stretches fighting out of the southpaw stance in their matches with Rocky. I am guessing it had something to do with angles and keeping Stallone in all of the shots.
Don't remember that. I don't watch Rocky movies very often though, even if they're on.
I loved them.
The fight scenes weren't any good, that's true but i still loved the character. At least up to the third movie.
Anybody notice that every one of his main opponents as well as him is a South Paw?
From what I remember, only the God known as Clubber Lang was a southpaw. Apollo, Drago, and Tommy Gunn were all right-handed. Unless you mean the actual actors, I don't know about that.
Wait, forgot about Tarver. Did he fight right-handed or southpaw in Rocky 6?
To me, anyone who can't be inspired by Rocky as a drama is not quite with it. As-in, they probably don't get along with people in real-life very well. It's like someone who says they hate puppies, you have to wonder what went wrong in their life.
If you watch it just for the boxing, then I can see you having issues with it. But Rocky isn't just about boxing. It's more of an underdog story than anything. You can replace boxing with football, working on wall street, whatever. It's about a man who's considered a loser, a bum by most everyone around him, who's giving a shot to finally show he's more than that and makes good on the opportunity.
And when you watch the series as a hold, you get a real sense of the grueling life of a fighter. Rocky went from being on top of the world, to losing his title, to losing all his money, to losing Adrian, but still found the courage to step in the ring and do what he does best and someone overcome the odds. And that's why people love the films.I bet the Rocky theme song is played when guys train more than ANY other song around the world. lol It's inspiring.
My favorite quote is from Rocky Balboa (the last film), "What is it you said to the kid? It ain't about how hard you can hit; it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward...How much you can take and keep moving forward. Not get up, get up!"
And to add, the actual fighting in the early Rocky films is MUCH MUCH better than recent films like The Fighter which really was laughable, although I loved the story.
Anyway, we need more boxing films! :boxing:
well said.
I've always taken issue with the fight scenes. There are plenty of exciting fights in boxing history that don't resemble a 'Rocky fight.' Couldn't Stallone have cherographed the fights to be a little more realistic?
Is boxing so boring and unappealing to the casual person that you have to make it cartoonishly violent?
The Rocky movies have innacurately portrayed boxing as a crude contest between unskilled combatants who have no regard for self preservation i.e. defense, and are only able to become victorious because their extreme 'will'
This protrayal could not be further from the reality of actual boxing
