Heres my open letter to floyd.....FUK YOU!:ANWOD:
LMFAO This made me laugh.
Mayweather seems a lil off for this Training Camp, I think he been standing flat footed lately cause he chose to, and I think this is exactly what he doesnt want to do with guerrero so he doing everything in his power to get that muscle memory back 100%
1 fight a year and the last few has been flat footed walking you down, so he just trying to get his legs fresh again.
Not that he is over the hill, he hasnt fought in that real slick on your toes fight in a while.
Great point and I agree fully. I think the notion that just changing your mindset or training method 40+ fights in isn't realistic.
Floyd has declined, as has Pac and father time is undefeated. I still think Floyd wins, just because he's that much better than Guerrero but it will be interesting to see if he stands in front of Guerrero like he did Cotto and whether or not Guerrero can punish him more than Cotto did.
Everyone talks about how the Cotto fight was close but I gave Cotto 4 rounds out of the 12. It was made a bigger deal because Floyd's nose was bloodied.
Father time got stretched out by Bhop :)
I agree the Cotto fight wasnt close , Floyd put on a great fight if you actually watch it , Floyd only needs to be Floyd to win this .
expect to see floyd be very economical with his punches and using his legs to keep Guerrero at a distance... /yawn
Nope. He'll be moving forward and pressing the attack from the get-go. It's a good game plan to use against a southpaw like Guerrero. I do think he'll be using his jab more with the intent of scoring rather than utilizing it as a measuring stick to set up his power punches.
I agree! I don't want to see Boxers try to win over Brawling Fans, stick to what you do best like Rigondeaux did against Donaire. You was trained the PROPER WAY on how to BOX, why in the hell should you change that now just to win over a few Ignorant Fans and Media People!
Mayweather was putting on a clinic the first 5 or 6 rounds against Cotto, but then he stopped throwing punches and started leaning on the ropes, stayed right in front of Cotto and was just trying to Roll Punches then turned it back on in the 9th Round I think it was
I think he could have easily put on a Clinic that entire fight but it seems like he wanted to please HBO and some fans by showing his Toughness after building a solid lead
I approve this message.
The other thing I fear with his dad being back is that he goes full on boxing, moving. I wanna see Floyd box, use his legs, but stay aggressive at the same time. Its a balance you have to find. I dont wanna see him hitting and running. I think fighting like he did against Hatton and some other fights will make him easier to beat. He has to find a balance where he can move but still be aggressive and commit to punches
He has shown a combination of both in the JMM fight. He stood his ground and fought a bit aggressive in spurts, but he was hitting and moving constantly throughout the whole fight. I don't think it'd be a wise move for him to stand his ground against a fighter like Canelo though. Canelo is an in-spurts type of fighter who looks good when his opponents stands right in front of him.
I didnt watch the video but I pretty much disagree with Barry and everyone of the opposite opinion. I dont think Floyd fighting that way has anything to do with fans/media like Barry thinks and I also dont think it had anything to do with Cotto being great like others think.
I think his mentality just changed. I think alot of it had to do with his dad even though he actually feels the exact opposite. Meaning his dad wants Floyd to use his legs more & box but this mainly started against Mosley in which his dad set the game plan for Floyd to fight him in close because Shane is jittery and he knew Floyds fundementals would beat a jittery guy to the punch easily.
Now he has fought that way before but those were pretty much all against Southpaws. He wasnt doing it full time until the Mosley fight came. I think he trained that way full time for that fight and he sparred that way. He had a different mentality for that fight and when it played out so well, he wanted to stick with it because he felt strong and he also felt that despite him being the best pure boxer in the sport, he also knew that he is just as good in the pocket.
Now what happened against Cotto was that Cotto is low to the ground and very strong himself so it backfired and before Floyd knew it, he was in a dog fight that was too late to get out of. I dont think it had to do with Cotto from the sense that if Floyd had just boxed from the jump then there is no way he couldve done what he did to Floyd but Floyd's mindset was that he was the one that would be doing that to Cotto.
I dont think it had to do with fans/media. Floyd fought that way against Shane, loved it, and felt that he could do it to anyone who wasnt way bigger or stronger. I love having his dad back. I love him bringing back the movement and the jab but I have 2 fears. 1 is that this is the one fight left that I dont think Floyd really should be moving in. I think he should fight the Ghost the way he's been fighting all the other Southpaws and his recent fights.
I think he's stronger than Robert, quicker, and would kill him by walking him down. I think him going backwards or moving "may" actually give the Ghost his only chance to win. Id rather have his dad bring the jab and movement back when he fights his next fight against a righty or against stronger guys. Like against Canelo his dad would be perfect but I think against the Ghost, Floyd should bring the fight to him.
I dont trust Southpaws. Floyd might try to do something different than he normally does and end up getting caught with something crazy right on the end of the Ghost punch or by soemthing he doesnt see. Hopefully they stay agressive.

I totally agree. He shouldn't change anything when it comes to fighting against southpaws unless he's fighting one who's a counter-puncher with good hand speed and foot speed.

The smart fight for Floyd will be to take the passive aggressive approach which is moving forward, forcing Guerrero back, but letting him lead in terms of punching and countering him. Then opening up on him later in the fight. I anticipate this fight looking a lot like the Ortiz fight but Guerrero's heart and lack of stupidity will make the fight last longer.
I loved the way he described Guerrero...
"Straight up, no special effects" lol
That's the way you fight guys like that. Walk them into traps and let them beat themself. Frustrate them, then finish them.
Floyd is going to TKO Guerrero.
No one beats age, floyd though may be a rare fighter in the fact that his smartness allows him to still be very good even when his physical gifts start to fade. Sure other fighters like bhop have done well late, but they did not start out with the sheer gifts of speed, and athleticism as pbf. Jordan is one who comes to mind if i were to compare anyone to pbf to making a similar transition. Dont get it twisted tho......i hate the mofo, but i will give respect, and open mindedness of the situation.
Cotto landed a few good body shots in spurts even though they were overshadowed by Floyd's more eye-catching cleaner shots. Floyd got tagged with two-three jabs when he fought off the ropes and he just stood there like his feet were stuck in cement even after Cotto immediately retreated back to the center of the ring. I know that Floyd Sr has a big ego and will say what's on his mind even if it means bruising his son's fragile ego, but he's the exact type of trainer that Floyd needs.
I hope it's a tough fight, but unless Floyd has drastically changed in the last year or so, I think he adjusts against Guerrero and kills him.
He isn't moving very well as of late and that's his biggest downfall but he's 36 years old and I don't know if he can turn back the clock to those days when he moved more fluidly.
No excuses. Bernard Hopkins has shown more lateral movements in his early 40's than Floyd has shown us as of late. I don't expect to see Floyd moving as fluidly as he did against Corrales anytime soon, but i do think he can show better lateral movements than he has shown in his last few fights. He got caught by Mosley when he stood his ground, but i didn't give too much thoughts to it since it could have happened to anyone.
However, in the Cotto fight, Floyd could have fought on the outside and controlled the tempo of the fight, but i just don't know why he didn't do it or couldn't have done it. I must give credit where it's due. Cotto and Pedro Diaz had a great game plan and they arguably were able to dictated the tempo of the fight.

I don't think there's any real reason for Mayweather getting beat up against Cotto, other than Cotto had a sick ass doubble popping jab!
He was landing the jab really well in that fight, he just couldn't follow up.
floyd was very active vs corley and he kept circling to avoid the ropes, he used his legs alot in that fight.
remember rd 4 vs ortiz in the beggining where he had that flurry? doing that the entire fight is what he was doing vs corley(only watched that till around rd 8 tho, might have slowed down, corley sure did) and i'd be very suprised if he could fight like that now, he almost always gravitates to the ropes, if he can fight like he did vs corley, yea he beats guerrero to a pulp, doubt it though
well people say he slowed down because they refuse to watch fights.. Mayweather fought Corley, Judah, Mosely and others flat footed...
Fighting flatfooted and slowing down are two different things. If Floyd slowed down then he wouldn't be as effective fighting flatfooted as he was before. He wouldn't be quite as effective using any technique. He would probably get tagged more.
I'm not so convinced Floyd hasn't slowed down. One thing sticks out in my mind from 30 days in May documentary. After the Cotto fight, asome point during the walk back to the dressing room, Floyd told his own team he was impressed by Cotto - he said "that boy might make me retire, that fight was hard."
That's a piece of film that might be worth studying if you haven't seen it yet. Age might be catching up with Floyd, we don't know for sure.
Oh I thought the hatton fight was fought on the inside 70% of the time but i could be wrong. I'd have to watch the video
So there's no movement inside?
Movement isn't relegated to just running around. Mayweather is a GREAT inside fighter, and uses his legs to set up counter shots, something he did less vs Cotto. Wouldn't you agree?
I don't have the video, since I don't spend a ton of time watching videos.
Interesting video but I think there's one factor you've overlooked - has Floyd actually slowed down and could that be the reason he's unable to perform like he did before? Just a slight reduction in speed could potentially make a huge difference in ability to perform certain techniques in a fight. Look to Judah for some similarities. So it may be that Floyd is pandering to bloodthirsty fans or it could be that he has actually slowed down... Do we know for sure?
well people say he slowed down because they refuse to watch fights. for example as i already pointed out in this thread put people hate facts and worse dont watch fights, Mayweather fought Corley, Judah, Mosely and others flat footed... he was not old then. It's just the style he chose to fight.
My issue is Mayweather should go back to controlling every aspect of the fight and dominating guys not feeding into this ignorant media and fan bs.
I just think he started caring what people say and he should go back to not caring. Facts are facts
