Hypocrisy at it's finest. First off the SWEET Science doesn't mean hit or not get hit, it doesn't mean one style of boxing, sweet science has many styles, some guys are offensive, some defensive, but they all do what it takes to win. So to say only defensive boxers epitomize the sweet science is wrong. There are many aspects and styles of boxing and they are all sweet science, the offensive aggressor, the swarmer, the boxer puncher, the counter puncher etc. not one takes precedent over the other, its all up to taste which one you like better.
These people are the equivalent to the non conformist hipster who says they do not watch action movies because they lack substance and cater to the masses but watch independent/foreign movies because it makes them look educated and deep.
I appreciate all types of boxing, but no matter how hard the few people on here or on message boards try their hardest to leave comments, make videos or post articles on how great Rigondeaux was against Nonito, and that if you don't like that fight you are not a true boxing fan, nobody will remember his win but a few elitists.
I tell you also why I don't like Elitist boxing snobs, its Their way or the highway, they love to praise guys who fight super defense as if that IS boxing, BS, that isn't boxing, that is only one aspect, and you don't win fights with defense, as far as I am concerned you have to hit the guy to score a point, winning on ring generalship alone is iffy.
Rigondeaux is a great talent but his fight against nonito wasn't of of his best showings, its getting overrated, first off why the praise? when the same people were calling Nonito overrated and a bum before? Also he didn't win in spectacular fashion. nonito was his first GREAT fighter to fight.
The only thing that was good was watching it live, this is not a replay fight, any fight with this magnitude will get you amped but thats only because you want to see if someone will land something, nobody anticipates a fight saying "oh oh oh look I'm waiting to see a duck or a back step move! without a counter!" elitists make me laugh. People want to anticipate a KO or some combos thrown or a hard counter combo ala Juan Manuel Marquez or some defensive slip and move counters ala Pernell Whitaker, not a step back with a power right measuring stick arm and random counter shots that don't even land crisp.
Also stop comparing Rogondeaux to Floyd Mayweather he is nowhere near Floyd;s level, stop hyping him up already, the only comparison you can give is that Rigo vs. Nonito looked like Floyd vs. Oscar one guy backing up all night with the other guy walking forward and not being able to find the other guy much, and than trading in the last round. let the guy prove himself more, if there is nobody at 122 move to 126.
Should we praise Sven Ottke as a masterful boxer too?
Floyd is a complete fighter he will go for the kill when he gets a guy hurt, people forget this, Rigo didn't and didn't dare to be great, this was Rigo's chance to be Floyd knocking out Diego Corrales but he held back, and nothing pisses me off more than a guy with great talent who doesn't utilize their skillset.
Floyd true skills, complete package, watch and remember just how great Floyds skillset is
I guess these snobs think Goosen and Arreola and Rios are casual fans too, since they don't particularly like slick counterpunchers either
one ove arreola favorit fighters is james toney, one of the slickest!
baseball fans love to see the ball fly outta the park....but they'll stand and honor a pitcher who throws a no hitter....in boxing that pitcher will be called boring because he didn't throw fastballs that could be knocked for homeruns :lol1:
Hector..
Donaire was ranked pFp top 10.
BF the fight we simply heard boasts on how Donaire was going to KO Rigo....
Now we are trappped in a world of denial... lmao!
Hit and don't get hit. Rigo's foot work was a site to see. Loved it.
Don't get me wrong i love a good toe to toe battle and I do know hard cores who Rigo isn't for them but if your a casual than oh well it still good for the sport. Maybe there was a casual who watched Rigo and said "he's a wizard, makes good fighters look like fools"
Your honour, if it please the court, I would introduce as evidence, exhibit A:
No you guys are cornballs because you only respect brawling. Most guys that appreciate slick boxing also appreciate the fighter type. If you only like one style you can't call yourself a balanced fan. It's like people who watch football and only pay attention when their team is on offense. Or people who watch Basketball but don't know what a zone defense is. Give it a rest already. If you don't understand or appreciate the technical side of the sport you can't call yourself a real fan.
Boxing Hipster's Damn that's just beautiful. :notworthy
I for one love all styles of boxing, shiet I watch and DVR everything I can.
I enjoyed the fight last week, but I also believe that Rigo should have KO Nonito in the 12rd, he had him hurt. Nonito was fighting with only one eye in that 12rd, I felt Rigo should of went for the KO it Just seems like Rigo there did not have the killer instinct. That's the only thing I see missing from Rigo's arsenal.
Would I watch another Rigo fight? Of course. Will Rigo become a future PPV headliner? Nope, not a chance. imo

It's got nothing to do with just appreciating brawling. If Donaire didn't do as little as he did to push action, that fight would be unbearable to watch. All the feinting, drawing, and circling does not mean you're a defensive wizard when you're opponent is throwing a couple dozen punches per round.
If Donaire actually threw something more, and put actual pressure on Rigo, AND Rigo could effectively counter, slip, and hurt Donaire, that it'd be different. In fact, when they traded, Rigo got dropped, and took some shots.
Rigo looked "good" because Donaire sucked.
And i don't care either! I'm not a big fan of eithe fighter but jesus nonito is an excelent boxer puncher who finishes and gives us highlight reel KO's.
And thats another thing why is everyone calling nonito a one dimensional fighter all of a sudden? because he fought a guy thats all skill and no thrill? get the fuk outta here with that s hit!!! By that logic there are only 3 fighters in the world that are skilled fighters everyone else is one dimensional. it's the same thing when a PBF fan calls Pac one dimensional. it's just fuking stupid!!
How is that stupid? Pacquiao can only fight one way, he's one dimensional.
im exaggerating of course but seriously i was really disapointed. Such a big fight and it turned out to be a snooze fest.
you act like you didnt know it was going to be a fight like that i thought it was pretty obvious personally
Niether is Donaire

lol sorry if i dont need a lip to enjoy that style give me a break
Why do you always make it difficult to converse with? I hope you are not one of those B power guys?
Exactly my point, and the only time they use Sweet Science is to refer to low punch output super defensive back steppers, which is a load of bull, that is only one aspect of boxing. So Roberto Duran, julio chavez sr, Joe Frazier, must not be legends since they never took a backwards step.
Sweet science includes all aspects and styles. But these guys love to own the word for slick or super defensive boxers only.
Not really on topic, but low output fighters like that are a huge pain in the judging world. You have to choose between the guy who lands only a few but clean shots, against a guy who's more wild, but presses the action more. Ring Generalship is a subjective term.
People on this board live in this fantasy world where they believe that only slick, low output, potshotting, defensive fighters are the ones capable of scoring the rounds. I'm not sure where this originated from honestly. I think it may give them a false sense of authority when they see they go against the grain and it somehow makes them more of a boxing "analyst". But I just leave them to it.
The bigger problem on this board are the Mayweather fights. I'm automatically accused of being a hater, or accused of "giving rounds to the guy who didn't lose as bad as expected" because I don't give Mayweather rounds where he potshots a little bit, and hardly moves. I've been in my local judging/refereeing circuit for a while, and I can say that the community is split on the issue there. I'd just ignore anyone who hides behind a "sweet science" or "hit and not be hit" persona thing and carry on as normal
Two guys fighting to the finish, but just one guy wins because he's the better man, and that's what the god damned sport is about.

no thats a street fight you can goto your local bar and see that
Ali made up for his boring style by being the Louisville lip. Floyd was never a crowd pleaser but he also uses his self promotion skills to sell, unless Rigo can do that which he can't he doesn't know English and Cuba has an embargo, he is pretty much screwed, this why its important for him to be exciting, Nonito didn;t do jack but move forward, Rigo problem is he didn;t capitalize till the 12th round. Floyd capitalized on Diego who fought similar to Nonito walking forward like a zombie wide open, if Rigo did that I would praise him hard. I would love to see a rematch at 126
lol sorry if i dont need a lip to enjoy that style give me a break
lol it wasn't that bad. I enjoyed it more than a lot of other fights

Casual fans are fans who just don't know better to differentiate when they're watching a great boxing lesson or a snooze fest most of them are just salty the guy they wanted to win is getting whipped and that is why they make threads boo etc. Takes great skill to neutralize the other guy while whipping him but of course nobody wants to see the fighter they profess is going to win be made to look like a helpless toddler.
