I made some hard statements about Donaire in the past, not his biggest fan, but he deserves a lot of credit for take this fight. He was the one who could lost more, and we see others fighters refusing his duties with boxing fans for years, avoiding the fights that everybody wants to see.
The first round of yesterdays fight was the most intense 3 min of boxing in years, and we should give Donaire his credit. Thank you Mr. Donaire.
yea beacuse vasquez and arce are not really great fights that anyone was asking for yet donaire tried to sell it as they were the best of the best and froch was not looked at or ranked as highly as donaire.
froch fighting pascal, taylor, dirrell, ward, abraham and bute were all fights people actually wanted to see because they were intriguing fights at the time where as vasquez, mathebula and arce were not
there were 3 names that people said donaire needed to face before moving up to 126 and those names were Nishioka, Rigondeaux and Mares...donaire fought 2 of the 3 names since mares negotiations fell apart and he decided to move up to 126 (and i still think the donaire vs mares fight can happen at 126)
vazquez jr was a former WBO champ, only 1 loss and still ranked in the top ten of the division
mathebula was the IBF world champ at 122 and arguably beat the former top dog of the division (caballero)..
Nishioka was ranked #1 at 122 and the real WBC champ, and a veteran in the division
Rigondeaux ranked #1 at 122 WBA super champ
and Arce was just the cherry on the top..and had beaten teh undefeated Vazquez jr for his belt not too long ago...
donaire fought 4 guys ranked in the top ten of the division in a little over a year (2 current world champs and 2 former world champs).....two of those guys being ranked #1 at the time donaire fought them...so doesn't donaire get some or a little respect for trying to clean out a division in just a little over a years time?
man they didn't want this fight they wanted Darchinyan rematch bad.
never in my life had I seen a fighter try to get out of fight this bad lost count of how many times he called the fight off on twitter
i thought they said donaire had trouble making weight and was getting trained by phone.
it sounded like he didn't take rigo seriously enough and paid the price.
not so sure i respect that.
That's what I was saying all last week too. Donaire kept talking like he was gonna blast Rigo out and that he didn't think Rigo was that good until he saw some film of him and started to doubt himself.
He never complained about weight before this fight and had never mentioned a shoulder injury until that interview that I'm aware of. I even saw footage of him training and he was punching mitts or something like a madman and quite a few posters were saying stuff like "I feel sorry for Rigo", "Donaire is going to end Rigo's career".....RIGONdeaux...........seemed like a pretty healthy shoulder in that footage.

Everyone knew, except his fanboys, that this would be Donaire's most important and DIFFICULT (especially) fight to date. He should've known that. They all should've known better.
All excuses.

I used to think he was a solid guy
But he's nothing but DRAMA. He makes excuses after excuses; look at his twitter, nothing but retweeting the most idiotic tweets from imbecile supporters
He had a moment where he acknowledged that Rigo gave him a boxing lesson; but ever since he has fallen apart. Now he's doing the "he ran" "he felt my power" "i did it for the fans" "he's boring" routine.
He's turned into one of the most unlikable douches. Broner may be a douche, but god damn it he's proud of being a Douche. Donaire on the other hand tries to be smooth like Pac, but comes across as a fake.
He's probably still a solid guy, but he has fallen into his own hype.
And he doesn't get thanks for not ducking. Great boxers don't duck. Its expected.
If you cant handle him at his worst then you dont deserve to watch him at his best.

I started to respect Donaire cause he tried to congratulate Rigo in spanish and admitted that Rigo gave him a boxing lesson.
But then... the excuses started spewing out and the audience let him have it.
I dislike him even more now than I did before.

brah he said no excuses. if he had better shoulder and took it seriously he woulda won thats all.
well a lot of people give carl froch respect and praise for fighting the best at super middleweight even though he lost to ward...like you said, it is a sad state of affairs that not a lot of guys are willing to clean out their division..so of course you'd give respect to those guys who are willing to put their record on the line to do it...
unfortunately donaire wasn't getting much respect before the loss...and it seems like he hasn't gained that much respect after...shame...

I agree. Donaire seems like an egomaniac on the low. In the public eye he tries to come off as the nice guy, but you can tell he has a big ego. All the KO's probably went to his head. He has Rachel buzzing with nonsense in his ear and guys like Max Kellerman sucking him off every fight and look what you get. A guy who makes a ton of excuses when he gets beat by the better man. I like Donaire, but I hope moving forward he'll rededicate himself and not let the success go to his head.
It's a sad state of affair when we find it noteworthy that fighters fight who they are supposed to fight.
But yeah, props to Donaire i guess.
i don't think donaire wanted to fight rigo but he didn't have that many options if he would of moved up without fighting rigo he would of looked bad

Donaire can still go on to dominate and win titles at 126. Rigondeaux is just on a completely different level and could probably stay around like Hopkins defending his titles for ages.
Nah, he didn´t want to fight Rigo. Arum forced him so he could transfer some stock into Rigo before Donaire gets killed at 126.
Exactly, Donaire never wanted any part of this fight. He went from acting like Rigo didn't exist to saying he wouldn't fight him because he was too boring. After Rigondeaux renewed his contract with Top Rank with the promise of a Donaire fight, Nonito became really dismissive of Rigo. In the early stages of making the fight, Donaire demanded testing of his opponent for the first time (something he said previously he wouldn't do), and threatened to cancel the fight several times for minor issues during that process. Top Rank more or less had to make this fight. Nonito had no burning desire to face "the best".
Donaire made twenty million excuses for not fighting and then made twenty million more after he lost. who the hell respects that?

but he fought him...thats the thing..he could have said **** it and just moved up to 126 after the mares negotiations fell apart and continued to run with his excuses, but he didn't...he MANNED UP and committed to fighting rigo...that deserves some respect...
and fighters usually do make excuses when they lose...when barrera who was p4p#3 got his ass whopped by an unranked pacquiao he gave a bunch of excuses....it happens...losing can be a HARD pill to swallow so they start looking to find things that resulted in their loss..it's normal..natural...
donaire tried to clean out the 122 division and fell short...at least he tried..and for that he should be commended
