Mares vs Rigo, who wins?

rigo is great if his opposition let's him...he does gud against thinkers...like donaire..but Wen donaire got busier nd more agressive he easily dropped him..donaires problem is that he thought he was winning...nd apparently some of the judges thought it was closer than most of the viewers...I think mares would be a better contest...not on skill but on mares style..nd mares goes to the body nd throws better combos but his defense isn't as good...I can totally see mares beating rigo...if rigo tries to entertained he'd get stopped Posted from Boxingscene.com App for Android

You picked a bad time to make this poll. All of these guys are still high on Chacal's win so they don't look at fights objectively. If you make a poll of Rigo against Floyd Mayweather right now most of them would think Chacal beats him and explain why Floyd is ducking him. I think Mares gives him the fight of his life. Mares got this, the only way to slow down this Cuban legend is to go downstairs and the only boxer I've seen that has that kind of accuracy is low blow Mares.

Donaire and Rigo would both have beat Mares. Mares is not close to good enough to trouble Rigo.

the difference between Moreno and rigo besides a obvious power and height diff is that Moreno wanted to hit and move his game plan was the movement and not the countering. Stop the movement you stop the gameplan. For the first 5-6 rounds last night rigo was content to stand in front of donaire and counter from there. Rigo is a defensive fighter but quickly and fluidly transitions to offense, Moreno attempts to get set at a different location. Its easier to rush someone who isn't set, rigo is rarely off balance or not ready to punch.

Mares's hold and hit style is the only style that might have a chance against Rigondo's running style. Mares will rough up Rigondo and that might throw Rigondo off his game. Mares might have the chin to eat Rigondo's pot shots. Exactly rigo doesnt fight off the clinch which mares excells at. He needs to be on him the whole night and not give him any room to punch.

I don't think the answer is to simply apply non-stop pressure, that would be foolish. Nonito had the size to pressure, but not the mentality. It's the other way around with Mares. Mares simply does not have the stature nor the power, and even he will tire at some point and have to rejuvenate by taking a round off. He needs to be dynamic and change the tempo on a dime, but not allow himself to lose his composure offensively. He could pressure non-stop against Moreno because he wasn't afraid of what was coming back at him. I can't see that being the case with Rigo. Mares's team would have to come up with a hell of a game-plan. Mares needs to smother rigo make it ugly. You cant stand infront of rigo and do nothing like donaire. Mares is willing to take shots unlike donaire sure it might cost him but he needs to take risk. Rigo needs room to punch but mares can still get his punches off in the clinch or real close.
