We already knew he was probably the best Amateur boxer of all time.
With last nights performance I am going to put it out there that Rigondeaux is probably the most skilled boxer to ever step into the ring.
We just saw a 32 year old fighter on the downside of his prime dismantle a top 5 p4p fighter in his prime.
I am not saying he is unbeatable, he still has to prove that against a fighter who can take his punches and is willing to eat them to deliver their own like a Roberto Duran, but skill wise I think it can now be argued that he is without equal.
The closest I can think of is maybe Pernell Whitaker, but Rigo is equally slick, is better at controlling the pace of fights, and is more precise with his punches.
I won't go into all thirty pages, but Rigo is highly skilled. But his skills on full display over a long haul, he unfortunately doesn't cut it and probably won't.
Overall, just in terms of modern greats, I'd place him behind the following:
Bernard Hopkins; Ivan Calderon; JMM; Pretty Boy Floyd;
Just to name a few. These guys proved their skills over the long haul, not just one fight

Modern Day Pernell Whitaker Basically! Yeah he can limit his output Offensive because he knows he is going to limit his opponents output with his Defense
It is next to impossible to look good against that style, his fight with Donaire reminded of the Oscar vs Whitaker to be honest
I don't know about All Time but he is a Phenomenal Boxer
Floyd was fighting bums through out his prime. I mean lets remember what prime Floyd accomplished.
After Castillo...
Sosa
Ndou
Corley
Bruseles
Gatti
Mitchell
That Andre Berto levels of hand picked opponents.
And that's why I don't believe in the Floyd Mayweather myth.

The Cuban fighters in the amateurs play the game top notch...its why I had picked Telepio Stevenson as the best heavyweight ever. No amateurs is not the same as the pros but the great ones can make the adjustments easily enough. If boxing is about technique these guys have coaches who teach a highly technical and sound form of the game....it shows as most of these guys can at least hang, the best of them are well.....we saw the best of them and it is not necessarily suprising.
It was good, but he wasn't really facing world beaters. He was fighting a bunch of guys that were tailor made for him.
Rigo just got done tooling a P4P recognized fighter in his 13th pro fight.
There's no comparison. The margin for error in this fight was mind boggling.

Not sure if trolling.....
But look up some highlights of a prime Mayweather, prime SRL, now that is some footwork.

>__>... Playing devils advocate here but Bernard has lost. Rigo hasn't. :|... So moot point.
No Shame in going down vs Donaire, either... I'd be more embarassed if Chad Dawson threw me. :|... Lol, just being an as s here.
Anyway, The people defending Floyd are insane! Youre defending someone who needs no defending! Rigo has TWELVE fights dont be insecure jesus lol.
Seriously though, 12 fights in and he beats a dude ranke up there with Floyd. Not bad. Defensively Rigo seems to be right there with rigo.
I love the comment by some person here who said Floyd's defense is better because it's different? What kind of argument is that!? Lol. You must watch boxing in spots because Rigo did(and doesnt) just dance around. He can stand inside and slip with sheer timing and head movement alone literally using no foot movement or initiating clinches. His defense is top notch. He proved it. Floyd has been doing it for a long time as a pro, but lets give Rigo his due too. Lets not act like being such an accomplished amateur counts for nothing either.
Rigo is ranked with Floyd IMO in terms of talent. He's not as offensive minded as Floyd was, but he hits harder. Floyd has had an infinitely better pro career, hes had more opportunity to showcase his skills. We'll get to see Rigo in his 30s possibly dominate as well or maybe we've seen the beat of Rigo. Settle down though..no need to hate.. Floyd fans should appreciate Rigo's technical mastery.
I am not sure why Floyd fans are getting so scared. Its not like Floyd has to fight Rigo...
I mean seriously... they were trying to argue that Deigo Corrales is as good as Nonito Donaire...

Very good post. Gimme your address, I'm sending you some money.
Lol Wouldn't the most skilled boxer of all time be able to avoid getting knocked down?
Bhop is 48 and has a better claim to this ....
:)
