Man I just saw this... Another flush left hook taken by Rigo and was not affected. Instead he returned with a harder one.

Love Rigondeaux's left. He could have thrown it 5 times and land 4. So accurate, Donaire was just with a fighter of a higher caliber than him and any one he's fought in his career. I'm not too confident in saying that about Rigondeaux. In his 400 amateur fights, he had to have seen at least one fighter who was better than Donaire. At least one.
Very similar to Mayweather straight. Very accurate with some real pop.
Hopefully Donaire didn't sustain Margarito-like damage to his eye.
i hope so too..but then again it happened late and didn't sustain much further damage like margarito.

I really like this one. Rigo going for his trademark body shot to the liver, gets tapped with Nonito's trademark left hook (yes, Nonito's vaunted left hook) and instead of putting his hands up to defend, he's fast enough to regain his footing and land a stiff straight left.
People are hating on Rigo's potshot. Twas a thing of beauty. I mean every time Donaire attempted to throw, Rigo let 1 rip twice as fast, snapping heads and shaking him up.
Donaire should have fought the whole fight like that.
He wasn't winning a straight up boxing match with the most technically sound fighter he's ever fought.
He needed to make it a rough and dirty brawl to take Rigo out of his comfort zone.
He needed to try something anyway, it can be difficult for guys to do that in a crisis moment when it's not really part of their toolkit though. The often end up just doing it really badly. Mares on the other hand would have gone after Rigo's balls like a dog in heat.
I saw the punch but didn't think it was that severe. At first I thought Donaire was playing hurt to lure Rigo into being more aggressive but then I saw him doing nothing but running and knew the eye was truely hurt.

Yeah, I was worried too. I've never seen a fighter trying to protect an eye like that before.
lol it was like ortiz with his jaw against lopez.
I thought he was going to trick rigo but he was actually holding it
That was crazy, I didn't know what the hell happened. You don't see fighters glue their glove to their eye like that very often, even when they get thumbed and it starts to swell like that immediately.
I truly was afraid for Donaires eye when he started protecting it so much i was rooting for Rigo but you never want to see such a world class boxer seriously injured.

Oh its the Donaire catching Rigo one

lol this fight was great most of the time. It was funny watching Donaire move around in the 12 after Rigo moving the whole fight, I thought Donaire might have actually tried something other than plod forward but he was just hurt
Nonito needed to take that risk in order to win the fight.
If he had started from the first instead of the 10th he'd have more left in the tank to eat up Rigo's shots and survive the initial onslaught to land some of his own.
easier said than done

The thing is, the times Donaire managed to get close, Rigo either clinched, held Donaire's head down, or ducked below the waist (all illegal), which made Donaire's effort to get on the inside mostly fruitless. But Rigo didn't do it often enough (because Donaire couldn't get close often enough) to really call him a spoiler like Alexander and Molina.
Moreno had no power so Mares was able to walk through his punches. Nonito would've been knocked out if he had done that.

another thing is that donaire and mares fight nothing alike
Donaire should have fought Rigo the way Mares fought Moreno.
Intense pressure, rough and dirty brawl.

When I saw that I laughed cause it was so cheap, I felt bad for Donaire that he had to resort to little trickery punches like that. That was like a semi-sucker punch. But it was an amateur mistake for Rigondeaux to let himself get caught with that. It was really cheap, but props to Donaire for ceasing his only moment to land something really meaningful finally.
Welcome to the ****in' pros. Rigo tried some dirty **** too, but neither got called for it. This isn't the amateurs, it's only called cheap if you're not doing it. The pro ring a different animal.
