Punches you don't see hurt. ask anybody that has ever been hit with a shot they did not see. ask paul williams, ask pacman, ask montiel, its the reality of boxing and the point of the video. Chad got setup
And they hurt (do more damage) more when you're weight drained.
Great video. I've said all along that the weight drain excuse is pure bullsh*t.
Dawson has always frozen in the big fights.
He fought like a girl and was dominated by Pascal for the better part of 9 rounds and Ward is 100x the fighter that loser Pascal is. So why would anyone think Dawson would do anything other than get dominated against Ward?
Dawson was all over the place because Ward took his heart early on and Dawson didn't want to take the punishment. He was looking for a soft place to land on the mat from early in the fight and it had nothing to do with losing 7 pounds.
Youtube is a public forum, so I don't get the rhetoric about the comments or suggestions in your opening, but great s#it man. I read the comments about the weight drainage, before watching the video and it makes these posters look like fools. It was addressed in video and was never denied. You even said Dawson was weight drained 100x and it could have played a factor in the knock down, but it was primarily the game plan that knocked him down. It was the Ward's game plan that paid the bills, not Dawson's the weight cut. Man, I take that opening statement back. How could you not be annoyed by the comments mofos who DONT watch your video make
Im convinced more than 70% of boxing fans on forums don't actually watch the fights. They watch highlights or read about it on *********. Thanks for watching bro
This was great man most fans don't respect the science bit of the sport and just look for the knockout in each fight the game plan Virgil set was genius and andre perfected it. Keep doing what ya doing man I appreciate it a lot.
Thanks for watching Champnas
Same guy who took bombs from Johnson and Pascal without going down, and surviving a heavy handed Adamek knock down. Can't take a damn jab without his legs shaking by one of the weakest punching 168 pounders in the top SMW. No weight drain issues?
That fight said weight drained all over it. But like I've repeated many times before, that was not Andre Ward's fault, he did what he had to do to a weight drained fighter who challenged at that weight.
You gotta know what your watching even as a groupie

Lets do a quick study in logic here because it might explain why the braying of idiots is upsetting to the OP: The correlations the OP is discussing involve implementing a strategy and the science behind it....Its similar to a biology student who first looks through a microscope and sees nothing until the teacher points out what she is looking at... When a fighter analyzes how a strategy is implimented suddenly a fighter can become aware of what is happening.
Certain truisms like "this guy is weight drained", "styles make fights", do not correlate to the de facto application of a strategy and its results.
The OP is talking specifically about using a body punch to set up a hook....there is no specific correlation to weight, styles etc....Dawson could not effectively see Ward setting up for that punch which (BTW) comes from a partial blind spot (another feather in Virgil/Ward's cap!)...what we in the Japanese Arts call "the Hidden Hand."
Barry in my opinion part of the genius of this unconventional approach is that while a straight punch is picked up fairly quickly on this side for the Southpaw, a Hook is not seen so easily...because it comes at an angle that is not peripheral enough to pick up visually until the last minute and...when stepping back to avoid the right hand cross body the person is distracted.
As usual nice vid. I meant to subscribe and will
People are giving Chad Dawson too much credit without acknowledging that he has frozen up in past performances, he has been hurt/ or shaken up before. Dawson got caught in one of the most sensitive areas on the chin by a fighter who has underrated power. Ward stunned Bika, stunned Froch plenty of times, backin' him up. I'm not saying Dawson was 100%, of course he wasn't, but people aren't giving Ward enough credit. Dawson has always had a shaky chin too.
I don't have so much problem with Dawson not being able to take Ward's power, but more with the fact that Dawson threw an average of just 18 punches per round, which is just pathetic. Dawson was completely drained, that's also a fact.
Ward gets credit for beating him, and maybe he would also beat him at 175, but the truth is that he was fighting a zombie.
