According to Dan Rafael on his weekly boxing chat today the 141 catchweight was done only from Matthysse's insistence.

Why can know one answer why the Mathysee-Peterson fight is not for a unification title and insted a catchweight fight?GBP won't mention why-do u know?
Dan Rafael (2:32 PM)
It is at 141. Matthysse didnt want to give up his wretched WBC interim title. IBF, obviously, is not going to allow its title to be unified with an interim title. That doesnt even make sense. Peterson, OBVUIOUSLY, wasnt going to give up his IBF title to fight for a crappy interim belt. Schaefer didnt' give a damn, just wanted to get the fight on, so they did it at 141 with neither title. It's stupid and makes no sense and I blame Matthysse since the whole damn purpose of an interim is to get a shot an actual title, which he would be getting with Peterson. He wanted to still be Garcia's mandatory, which is also stupid since Schaefer promotes three of the four guys and wants to match the Peterson-Matthysse winner with the Garcia-Judah winner. (Schaefer doesnt promote Judah but could easily make a deal.) So it makes no sense for Matthysse to be worried about an interim belt. Furthermore, if he were to lose to Peterson or win and still be Garcia's mandatory and the fight went to a purse bid his percentage is less than what he would get as an equal titleholder in a negotiated deal. Whole thing is just stupid but still a good fight.
People like him don't mind cheaters, just so as long as it's not Pacquiao.
Disgusting stuff. The dude gets caught red handed, admits that he previously took the stuff and still keeps his belt and GB still promotes him.
ABC craziness. I can understand Lucas' position. I know Schaefer says the winner probably gets Garcia anyway but I wouldn't trust Schaefer with a bucket of piss.
This is a funny saying.
People use it to bash Pacquiao but then turn around and use it in defense of one of their fighters. :chairshot

Let the commission do its job

Can't believe how many people thought this was Peterson's doing. I always thought it was pretty obvious that it was Matthysse's idea.
(It's genius by the way. Regardless he's getting a belt and I think that mandatory better ensures that than having the IBF. He might be giving up some more money, but there'd be a lot more pressure to fight him now.
Also it's no sure thing that Matthysse beats Peterson so Garcia could still go with the mandatory fight and not fight Peterson. If Garcia does fight Peterson, Matthysse gets a belt. He's the true winner in all of this)
I don't blame Lucas. He wants to make sure Garcia cannot duck him without losing the WBC title. I like Peterson and I think he is a very good fighter but I think Matthysse knocks them all out at 140 or for this fight 141.

A good fight is a good fight but come on with this GBP BS !!! This should be a unification fight,period.:boxing::boxing::boxing:
Dont forget the ones claiming GBP was doing this to hold belts hostage and being dirty.
Some supported this idea and thought gb were being smart by holding the belts. I'd still like to hear Lucas explain it, just a bit odd. It's all stupid, anyhow. Too many belts, too many champions.
People really sleep on the skills of Lamont Peterson. This kid is the truth. His boxing skills are very underrated and he has pop in both hands. He will be the more skilled fighter in this fight. Do not be surprised if this fight isn't that competitive. He has fought much better competition. He has fought Bradley, Khan, Ortiz, Holt, and has sparred Floyd Mayweather and gave him hell. Who has Matthyyse fought and beat??? Judah...no, Alexander...no. Even if you thought he won those fights, they don't compare to Peterson's opposition. Lucas is a very solid fighter, but he is not the best at 140. He will not win this fight.
Are you really comparing Mathysse to Canelo?
Is Mathysse not fighting Peterson? Has Mathysse not fought everyone in his weight class thrown his way?
Now tell me what Canelo's done in his weight class again?
All that's going on here is the belts aren't on the line. I don't see Mathysse exercising some rematch clause with Mike Dallas Jr. He's fighting one of the toughest guys in the division.
Comparing Mathysse asking for the fight to be 1 lb over the limit to what's been going on with Canelo, put simply, is wrong.
Even Canelo has beaten a tired old Mosley in fashion, bum ass Judah was able to get a decision over Matthysse, Canelo isn't the most accomplished boxer in the sport, but at least he took his toughest fight to date, without stipulations, can't say the same about Lucas.
Well Mike Dallas Jr isn't Lamont Peterson, is he?
Like it or not, this is the same guy who beat Khan before Garcia did. Peterson's only loss coming to Tim Bradley.
I don't think he's scared of the guy, but Mathysse has this mentality that he has to stop everyone before they reach the final bell. It's possible that Mathysse doesn't stop this guy; then what happens if the judges have shady scores? Garcia fight out the window.
I get the feeling that GB really doesn't want Mathysse to fight Garcia anyway. Garcia's somehow didn't fight Olusegun, his mandatory, and somehow didn't fight Lucas after he beat Ajose.
Lastly, if he was scared, the fight wouldn't be happening at all.
So people give shyt to Canelo for wanting to secure a Floyd fight, but when it's Matthysse, the excuse train is like 20 miles long, smh.

Not to sound like a shill for Garcia here, but like someone said earlier sometimes the "quirks" of boxing show through.
Garcia won that belt from Erik Morales, that Morales won in a vacant fight against Cano!
Garcia then fought Amir Khan, which you can't blame him for taking, most people thought at that point in time that Khan was going to beat Garcia.
After that he fought Morales, ONLY because Morales exercised his rematch clause he had from their first fight.
The quirk now is: GBP is clearly trying to build Danny Garcia into a draw, and he is an east coast fighter. So they are putting him in with Zab Judah who still draws well, especially in NY. So Garcia could have been put in with a more 'difficult' fighter(Matthysse, who speaking honestly, has put up terrible gates), but it wouldn't raise his drawing power, & wouldn't make him the most money.
Hoping that GBP sticks to their plan after this fight and puts him in with Peterson or Matthysse(whoever wins).
He's probably looking at it like "He's been robbed twice and if it goes to the judges, he doesn't want his shot with Garcia ruined".
Possibly.
Or GBP have fed Rafael a load of b/s.
It would be interesting to actually hear from Matthysse's camp.
