Rigondeaux, a decorated amateur who won two Olympic gold medals for Cuba, is a skilled counter-puncher, but he insists he can also be the aggressor in a boxing match.
“In this fight, I will try to engage more than I have in the past,” said Rigondeaux, as quoted by Philboxing. “I want to give the fans what they want to see.”
“Nonito is an aggressive boxer, and I will be coming for him. I expect the same from Nonito,” he added. “He is a great boxer and a great technician.”
Both combatants agree that their bout on Saturday will provide “a lot of fireworks for fight fans.”
“It may be a chess match. We are both defensive because we can see the punches coming, but when it comes down to the fight, we are both aggressive and offensive guys,” Donaire said.
Rigondeaux, who will be fighting as a professional for only the 12th time, is excited to test his skills against Donaire, who he feels is currently the best at the super bantamweight division.
“I have great respect for Nonito. His record speaks for itself and what he has done as a professional boxer,” he said. “Right now, Nonito is the best and on April 13 I am going to give it my all.”
“I believe I belong at this level, and if I am going to be the best, I believe you’ve got to beat the best,” he added.
The upcoming bout is the most important of his career, said Rigondeaux.
“This fight will determine the best in the 122-pound weight class,” he said. “Nonito is a great tactician and has enormous power, so I think it’s going to be an excellent fight.”
Hmm i don't see this as a good thing if he's telling the truth. A lot of my prediction of Rigo by UD is based on him forcing Donaire to be the aggressor in the fight and capitalising on his mistakes.
It would make for as better fight though no doubt!
Yeah, I'm not too sure I like it, either. But I like Rigo's tone. I have to say, I haven't felt this much connection to an impending fight in years. There are going to be butterflies by fight time! lol

I really hope they're just trying to hype up the fight...

This is the fight where you DON'T wanna be aggressive. Donaire makes all his mistakes when he's being aggressive and gets desperate. I hope they did their homework and are just talking bullsh1t.

I don't believe it. I think both are talking a big game as far as being aggressive, but this will be a slow chess match. If either gets hurt by something early, it will be downright boring afterwards.
I do expect both to throw bombs though, especially in the first few rounds.
This fight can play out in so many ways. It could be a stinker chess match with both guys giving eachother too much respect waiting and being cautious. There could be fireworks straight away. I feel Donair needs to land something really big early otherwise Rigondeaux will box his head off and turn the Philipine Flash into the Flash in the pan. This is a great fight.
