Western sports that claim a strong following in China like snooker and basketball aren't pulling numbers close to this. Snooker finals have pulled around 110 million while a major basketball match between China and the US pulled 187 million. Boxing is also the top sport story on most Chinese websites.
An audience of about 300 million people in China watched television coverage of his fight in Macau. Now promoter Bob Arum feels China is the future of boxing. He says Manny Pacquiao wants his next fight to be in Macau.

At least Arum is selling something to China. The balance of trade between China and the rest of the world is massive right now in favor of China. I never even thought people can now buy anything directly from China and online.
The one issue I see with viewers outside of Asia namely US is if Pacquiao does stage a PPV over there who's going to buy a 10-11est./7-8wst time PPV they are 12-13 hours ahead what have the fight take place in their mornings?
If they try to charge the popuation how many will actually pay for it doubt too many avergae Chinese only makes around 5-6 grand a year i believe and even the more succesful ones won't probably dish out alot of money for it they literally have to make it a cuople bucks to get enough buys.
It will take years before anyone sees the fruit of this labor in terms of quaility Chinese fighters making it the high levels and even then noone over here will care bcse they'll be in the lower weight classes which doesn't sell in the states although it'll be interesting to see how they can compete with the more succesful Japan/Thai/Phillipines boxers
If they had it at say 12-1 pm Sunday in China that would be prime time Saturday night into the USA.

the chinese middle class is the fastest growing in the world. you are misinformed about the buying power of the chinese middle class.
are people afraid of Chinese invasion in boxing?
they do have a large number of human resource and their could be a diamond out there that just need to be discovered...
The figure is possible but also probably inflated and it's based on Buffer announcing before the fight that 300 million will watch. So it's just empty hype. I'm sure that a lot of Chinese people watched but you are sourcing based on pure hype.
We got a winner:fest30::fest30:
Wow, Shiming pulls in 300 million and people say who cares. Broner pulls in under 2 million and he's the next hero. How can anyone hate on boxing getting viewers? Just once I'd like to see something that all of boxing can rally behind.
How can you build stars while fighting in China? While 300 million people watched this fight no one knows him in the place that matters, North America.
And this is why you post on a forum, and Bob does the promoting

Do you understand the concept of building stars?
You must be seriously new to boxing if you don't know how this process works by now.

So now Mayweather and Canelo should go fight as the undercard of Zou Shiming because he pulls in 300 million viewers:dunno:
You're like the forum version of that Life of Pi movie
Like I said above the majority of them will always be Zou Shiming fans and will only watch boxing when he's fighting. Ping Pong is the #1 sport in China.

they're new to pro boxing, so what we gonna do is court them, it's their country men, obviously they'll root for zou
you just dont get the point do you? that is for them to appreciate boxing, if you put exciting fights like that they will be more in love with boxing, it can be co-main event with zou headlining

The only reason it pulled in 300 million viewers is because their national hero was fighting and a bunch of different channels picked it up. If it were just Brandon Rios Vs. Alvarado fighting the ratings would be MUCH lower.
That dumb ass poster NewEngland saying they should put Rios-Alvarado on the undercard of a Zou Shiming fight:lol1: No wonder you defend Arum so much you guys are cut from the same cloth.
