The gap is obviously very wide on skill sets, and it makes you appreciate Rig that much more.
Shiming is GARBAGE!!, but Bob is gonna sell the Chinese people that bridge in Brooklyn.
I dare Bob to put this guy in with the guy who just crushed Brian by years end....
U cant compare this dude to rigo because they're not even on the same level skill wise but to say he's garbage??? I think I know why u said what u said, same reason why u hate on PAC, donaire, etc.
How is Bob Arum lying? He promoted a show in China of a two time Gold Medalist making his pro debut. If thr guy ends up to be nothing so what, the point is bringing boxing to China and getting them into the sport which in turn produces more and more Chinese pro boxers. This quite obviously helps the sport grow tremendously. I don't understand how this is hard for you to see.
cixthree's sig, avi and a long history of sniffing Floyd's starfish answers that question.

Now that Larry x has gone, its a toss up between you and jaestix for the title of worst, most biased and least knowledgeable member of this forum....and you are streaking ahead of that bellend at the moment. Good job!:fing02:
Why do people get so upset about this? The guy has a medal in 3 olympics (2 golds) and 3 world championships. If there is a guy to ever hype up, its him. Not to mention, he is also opening up one of the most untapped possible boxing markets in the world. Oh yea, he's so terrible for boxing
How many people showed up to Rigondeaux's debut?? Shiming filled up an entire venue and had potential of having 300 million tv viewers from China. He has already accomplished more in popularity than Rigo, who can't sell a ticket crickets everywhere when he fights.
Has nothing to do with what the TS was asking and are you really comparing China's population to a million cubans in the us lol come on son
Some of you have a very positive outlook. This was one of the worst high profile debuts I can remember (probably since Luis Yanez). A 2x gold medalist getting caught repeatedly for 4 rounds by a 2-2-1 fighter that already has been KO'd in his pro career? And that has never fought outside Mexico? This guy Shining is 31 already, he's going to end up getting hurt on his way to a title. I can see why he was a good amateur though.
You guys are obviously missing the point... this guy just got 300k, he's OVER HYPED and over paid. While guys like Rigo and other guys (With real gifts) have to damn near break necks to get a lil shine.
I understand the marketing aspect, and while I agree it opens up a new pot of money, doing whats best for the money has not always been the best thng for the core/real boxing fans.
Shiming as a fighter is garbage, and not worth the hype thats being put out there.
But as a money making tool, I understand. I'm a fan of boxing, not a fan of the money making buisness in boxing.
Put the money on the real talent IMO, Shiming is a garbage golden ticket
Rigondeaux is getting $750K for this fight with a possible $300K bonus if he wins by KO. He's definitely being well taken care of by Uncle Bob.
I just replied to this, and I also agree... I'm just fed up with the BS buisness of the sport.
You got guys who are in the trenches for years fighting for that payday, but this hyped up, old, been ducking the pro game for years just walks in the door bagging chips?
And he's the main? Com on Son! Total disrespect to Brian V and boxing
Rigondeaux is getting paid $750K for the Donaire fight. They are taking really good care of him.
That is not a fair comparison because you are thinking of the amateur boxing skills, but we will see what they do in the pro's THEN we can compare them. A lot of great boxers can be beat by better FIGHTERS this is the hurt business not the points business i havent seen enough of the Shiming dude in the pro's to say anything about he's potential.
That has nothing to do with the thread.
Really, you need learn to read with understanding. "Debut/skill set" is in the thread title. Obviously Shimings debut was more impressive than Rigondeaux, since he filled up an entire arena while Rigo debut in a bingo hall looking hotel room. That's the only decisive comparison between the two. We can't compare skills sets yet from just 1 fight, the sample size is too small.
The gap is obviously very wide on skill sets, and it makes you appreciate Rig that much more.

It actually proves that Olympic and amateur boxing don't mean sh#t in the pro's. Both Rigo and Zou will be KO'd senseless in the next year.

Your right but it's not a fair comparison. Zou fought in his home country and Bob put a lot f money into the promotion. If Cuba opened up and even allowed pro boxng, relative to the population in China, Rigo's pro debut would have been just as successful.
I thought Zou was pretty good. Fast and you can tell he's got skills. Do I think he can win a major world title in 8 fights, not sure and he doesn't have much time to do it as he is already over 30.
I'd like to see him 1 more time. He seemed a bit too excited for the debut. I'd like to see he when he settles down.
I have to agree, and I'm surprised some people still don't get this. In boxing you're paid for drawing power, not skill. It sucks, but that's the reality. Zou puts asses in seats and therefore should be paid accordingly.
yeah, there were like 20K people there....dude came out there like a klitschko or something
I thought dude was pretty good.....especially for his first pro fight. He showed great movement and speed....nothing to suggest he is going to be an atg but a huge, huge star in China though. I'd say Rigo is more impressive so far......It appeared that Shiming didn't have much pop on his shots too.
I agree 1000% with you... But this is a smoke and mirrors act if I ever seen one, dude is not good. My frustration comes from a fans point of view, they could have put Zou in any slot and the people would have come, but they put a WORLD CHAMPION fight on as the co main?
I just hate the buisness of boxing, and I hate the people who defend the disrespect it brings to the fighters who put in the work.
you're probably right about people showing up even if he wasn't in the main slot, and he really shouldn't have been. So I agree with you there. But again, he was THE draw...worst case scenario for Top Rank/HBO is that Zou fights and then the crowd begins to exit as the next event begins. I'm just saying, it is an entirely different audience and no one really knew how much interest they had in the other fights. It's a matter of supply and demand. Nonetheless, I agree that for a pro debut he shouldn't have been the main event.
dude, they're not putting any extra money into Shiming, Shiming is drawing the kind of crowd that generates that kind of money for himself. With all due respect to Rigondeaux, whom I've said nothing but great things about....if Rigondeaux could or would draw that much attention to his pro debut, he would've been paid accordingly. The money has to come from somewhere. Zou drew enough to earn as much.
Fact. :fing02:
