I mean, there are a lot of winnable fights for him at 147lb..While I really don't see him beating the top JMW if I can be honest..
At WW you have Bradley Marquez Pac Mayweather Guerrero Alexander Thurman Ortiz Lopez Maidana Brook...I mean every last one of those fights are winnable imo(if Cotto can still make the weight)and sound exciting tbh..
What are some thoughts on this, and what is Cotto's plans..I seen a thread about him going to 160lb,which will(certainly)be the end of his career imo..
I mean at 160lb.I see guy's like Macklin Lee Pirog Murray N'dam being way to much for Cotto..That is not even the top of the div imo..At 154lb I see Cotto having major problems with Vanes Lara Molina Smith etc etc..His best bet is to put the hard work in to be back at the top of the sport..
He reminds me of Mosley,I never like the weight(154lb)for Mosley..I hate it for Cotto..
Definitely.
His power and timing (speed) was much more effective at WW.
I believe he can still make 147lbs if he really wanted to. It's the desire that I question about him now.
There's a few fights at '47 that are interesting.
Bradley
Berto
Pacquiao II
JMM
Ortiz
Guerrero
etc.
I would love to see anyone of those fighters in the ring with Cotto. Why is this not interesting again?
I voted he should return to 147. All that weight drained stuff was an excuse for his lose to Pacquiao years after the fight. He is only 5ft 6inches and when he fought at 147 he looked like a fighter in shape is suppose to look.At 154 he looks about 7 pounds too heavy. He looks a bit soft and flabby. He is not a bigger man than Mayweather and he is probably smaller than Mayweather and Mayweather is at his best at 147. Cotto does not like to work to take off those last few pounds and he loves to eat. He could retire because he is very well off and his best days are gone. He will not retire and he is talking about fighting at 160.
Definitely.

Cotto can't get below 150 healthy probably. He can fight Canelo/Trout or Molina/Smith next.
miguel cotto could absolutely fight at 147 right now. he giggles his way into the ring at 154. he's well documented as being a fighter who trains very little today. he's not undisciplined, but his priorities aren't where the used to be.
The only opponents for him at 154 are WWs moving up, he's too small for everyone else. I wouldn't say it's beyond the realms of possibility that he has one last great victory against a strong 147 guy who hasn't grown into the JMW division. Maybe it's worth hanging around in the hope of that happening.
Can he make it comfortably?
He passed up millions of dollars for a Pacquiao rematch because he didn't want to go below 150.
Well that sure is one way to put it. I'd prefer to call a spade a spade though. Pacman (at the time the so called best boxer), seemed to want Cotto. Just not anywhere near a healthy weight for Cotto.
But on topic, no Cotto should not go back to welterweight. He's fighting less and less. It's a lot harder to drop weight, while fighting less and getting older.

sure he can, he's the reincarnation of butterbean at 154. if he wasn't so lazy he would do it.
If he can he should, really the only guy for him to fight at 154 is Canelo and that fight will probably be waiting for him. 147 is soft though so Cotto could certainly make some noise there.
