Was it a robbery? Was it a close fight? Was Delahoya really being effective or landing much? Or was Whitaker just out pointed?
Also does anyone know why Delahoya always has controversial decision when it comes to slick fighters?? It is just has style? IE, Floyd and Whitaker, Shane
It wasn't like Oscar had anything to do with Whitaker's 'not pushing the issue, I guess it was the yayo maybe, Whitaker could have done so much more, as for Oscar, I think that's the best he had to offer, which was enough arguably. I can't complain though, regardless of what Whitaker may have done that night, he was never gonna get the decision.

Wasn't a robbery, it could have went either way...but at the time Oscar was the young up and coming star while Whitaker was on his way out so Oscar was probably going to win no matter what Whitaker did
Oscar did get a few gifts in his career though
I had Oscar winning that fight clearly. I hope people are just caught with Whitaker's defense and slickness, because that was all I saw. Whitaker's offense could have been better. Oscar was the aggressor and the only one really trying to make the fight happen. Those saying Whitaker "clowned" or "outslicked" Oscar, i'm sorry Whitaker did look like he was the star of a circus act but unfortunately it was just entertaining to look at for the viewers and fans in attendance just like a clown is entertaining to look at, not for judges or any serious boxing fan scoring an actual fight. He was "funny" and entertaining, maybe he should have had his own stand comedy that night and he would have won something.
Pernell was slick, but he was having obvious troubles with Oscars size the whole night. He was having trouble returning fire simply because of Oscars range, which made for a hard fight to score as Oscar wasn't scoring but neither was Pernell.

i thought sweet pea won but it wasn't a robbery. ODH fought well.
Missing punches don't win you fights either. Defense is a scoring criteria, EFFECTIVE aggression is a scoring criteria and the key word is EFFECTIVE. De la Hoya's aggression was not effective.
It was more effective than Whitakers, that's the point.
Close fight but Whitaker didn't win it with offense and defense doesn't win you fights.

Well, Oscar was throwing a 5 punch combination and Whitaker was bobbing and weaving and didn't get hit with the first 3, but the last 2 always connected. Watch the fight again and then you see what I mean. Whitaker slipped a few punches and then he got hit flush at the end of Oscar's flurries. Over and over again.
De La Hoya went to work and didn't stop throwing punches at Pernell. Sure, De La Hoya missed a lot but ducking and dodging punches don't win you fights if you ain't throwing back.

Not at all. I watched and scored this fight just the other day. I gave Whitaker only 3 rounds. De la Hoya was landing all the clean, big punches.
No way did Sweet Pea win this fight or even come close to. And I say this as a big Whitaker fan.
Oscar vs Sweet Pea was a close fight in favor of Hoya for me, that's was no robbery. The only fight where I saw Oscar got a gift was the Strum fight, there's no way Oscar won that fight...no way.

Yet Whitaker threw more punches than De La Hoya
Close fight ,i had a draw ,but could have gone either way,
Depends on what judges look for ,showboating cant help... Had pea sat down more and challenged oscar in the last 15 seconds of each round he probably wins that fight,he didnt exactly beat oscar and he knew he was b side
