One of the GOAT amateur boxers with so far unblemished pro record steps up against one of the GOAT boxers to ever set foot in a ring. These guys are the most talented boxers in the world today without a doubt.
Donaire said he hasnt been this foucsed and trained this hard since the Montiel fight, and we all know what happenend there.
Yeah Donaire was superb that night. That huge counter left hook was the perfect punch, everything came together at the right moment.
Yeah the first time the top 2 fighters in the same division have fought each other since Holyfield and Tyson.
Leonard vs Hearns I
Leonard vs Duran I
Whitaker vs Chavez
Pacquiao vs. Marquez II
All #1 vs #2
Mayweather vs. Mosley
was #2 vs #3
Pacquiao vs. Marquez III
was #1 vs. #3
If B-Hop vs. Roy II happened in 2003 like it should have, that would have been #1 vs #2
(because he wasn't officially ranked, you can't really consider Mayweather vs. Marquez even though it was unofficially the #1 vs #2, #1 vs #3, or #2 vs #3, depending on who you ask)
In terms of relatively young guys with this type of talent this is indeed a VERY rare treat.

This is not the greatest fight of our time, if the fight itself is spectacular then maybe.
There has been no buildup for a collision course of Rigo/Donaire.
Simply Donaire is fighting the best available fighter since he can't fight Mares due to promotional problems.
Rigo has been a fantastic amateur but he is still unproven in the pro ranks. He has no spectacular wins or has a marquee name that he has beaten.
This could be his coming out party or he will be biting more than he can chew.
If you are worried about Donaire I think are right to worry. Rigo is a wonderful fighter but it is his misfortune to be fighting at the same time and in the same weight class as an even better fighter named Notito Donaire. Rigo has a chance to win with his speed, power, and precise punches but I am pretty sure Donaire will win by KO. I think Donaire is the best fighter in the world pfp..
People don't understand that if Nonito makes any mistakes he has the chance of getting knocked out, what's funny is that people really think he can't get knocked out when someone like Guillermo is so precise and technical. Did anyone see his fight with Teon Kennedy? Rigondeaux telegraphs a certain punch to measure and keep himself in balance, lure in his opponent then switch the foot balance and knock you on your ass now. Nonito is going to be schooled.. I will bet everyone going for Nonito with all my points. Nonito will make mistakes quicker than Guillermo, who is much much smarter and technical. He also have power in both hands and always in balance, Donaire is unorthodox but not as flexible, so it's over for the FLASH. El Chacal is going to punish him.. anyone argues otherwise is delusional.
You poor though
I'm very excited for this fight. A lot of peeps in here were saying Donaire was ducking Rigo. Both of them are counter punchers, but I believe Donaire will be the aggressor. Rigo has skills and is talented, but got Donaire all the way.
When the fight is over I will know how good a fight it was. Great fighters have often been in poor fights with each other. Two great fighters in the same ring does not always mean it will be a great fight. Sometimes average fighters will have great fights such as the fight between Rios and Alvarado.

There is no denying Rigondeaux P4P wise is one of the best fighters in the world. This will be a close fight but in the end I think Donaire's power will be too much for Rigo.
I love Donaire but I want Rigo to win just because I love his talent and skill and want to see guys like him get more shine. But Donaire's left hook scares me for Rigo.
Most southpaws mainly have to worry about a guy's straight right because the left hook is underutilized against southpaws. But with Donaire, he has to worry about both punches. It makes me worry if he'll get too defensive. But if he DOES get too defensive, and Donaire gets overconfident, it opens Donaire up to some nasty counter punches...and I think Donaire can be countered, he just hasn't gone against a guy like Rigo that can capitalize.
The other thing that worries me about Rigo, is he doesn't utilize HIS right hook enough (or at least he hasn't). A good check or timed right hook could keep Donaire's aggression more honest. If he doesn't utilize his right hook more, he will have to rely on his straight left and left to the body a lot and Donaire can adjust to that. Again, this is based on what I've SEEN of Rigo. He may have some wrinkles he hasn't unveiled yet. I hope so...
If I was Rigo, I would be working VERY hard on right hook counters as Donaire comes in or during exchanges...I would let Donaire get a little comfortable in the first few rounds then start looking for it around round 3 or 4 as Donaire tries to open up more.
In all seriousness, I think Donaire is going out looking to make a statement. He goes in there looking for that KO highlight shot. If Rigo makes a mistake, it'll be lights out.
You're probably right. Even before his eleventh pro fight, Rigondeaux was already being built-up as Nonito's biggest challenge. I think Donaire wants to prove something. However, despite what Nonito has said in the past, it's apparent he considers Guillermo a dangerous opponent. I think Donaire will take the fight to Rigondeaux, but he'll be careful not to get too reckless.

Yeah, Donaire's left hook is insane.

Definitely don't see this fight being a snoozer either.
Donaire is an aggressive fighter and I think he will respect Rigo, but still try and take it to him. It will likely be a moderately paced chess match like match.
I see more paths to victory for Donaire based only on the little pro experience I've seen from Rigo, but Rigo has the talent to make Donaire look like a different fighter than the stud he's been fighting less talented fighters. The fight could go a host of different ways and I am hype ass he11 to see how it plays out.
I am anticipating this fight more than any other fight scheduled right now. A love skilled fighters and both of these guys have tons of it.
