Apparently Eddie Hearn is trying to make Groves v Stieglitz as chief support for Froch-Kessler II. Seeing the way Stieglitz dominated a good, but basic fighter in Abraham last night - it would most certainly be very interesting. I'm still undecided as to who I would go for. Other than Abraham, Stieglitz's resume is pretty bleach. So is GGs. Who wins?
@ The Weebler II
I wasn't aware that George said he was willing to travel to face RS....but if that's the case then I still take that as a very good/positive sign of a fighter who really fancies the job.
I also agree with your view of RS as well...he was dead poor when he faced Abraham first time up, but the Mark 2 version of Robert would push George far harder and closer (whether the fight was in the UK or Germany).
Having said that, I still think Groves is a wee bit too fast and a spiteful, hurtful puncher who Robert would find too hot to handle.
I personally became a Groves 'believer' fairly late in life...the fight with Degale was close and only suggested George could cope with pressure a tad better than another hyped, novice prospect and he did not look good against the hard, but dead-basic Anderson.
But the way he blew Paul Smith clean out of the water - who is not too short of being world class - and handled the super-experienced Glen Johnson with plenty to spare suggests this kid genuinely has the X-factor.
Groves has Stieglitz in his sights and I am still banking on the Stieglitz team taking on Abraham for a third time...unless Eddie raids the Hearn family vault.
I am sticking to my guns.....Stieglitz will cost an absolute fortune to get over to the UK to face Groves and he will surely wait for a less-risky, but just as profitable rematch with Abraham sometime in September/October.
Eddie will need to break the bank to get Stieglitz to travel and even then I just don't see it happening because Groves is too live and dangerous.
It is a shame for Groves, who is ready to go at this level and let's hope he stays focussed and patient.
Groves said he's willing to travel to fight Stieglitz.
All I'll say is that if Steiglitz comes out like he did v Abraham in the second fight, I don't give Groves much of a shot (if Stieglitz fights like he did in the first fight, then yeah maybe Groves can do it).
If he can mature in time Groves can most definitely beat Froch, he has the perfect style. He can box, move well and bang hard. He"ll be a handful for anyone in the future and I think he"ll go onto become a great British champion.

I think it's a great fight, make it happen. Groves has a much more elusive style than AA does and he is good enough to hold his own I think. Stieglitz' experience and size may be too much for him though, this would definitely be a defining fight for Groves.
Just read something about Groves saying it's going to be an official WBO eliminator to set up the September fight... Admittedly it's from the Sun which isn't exactly a fountain of knowledge!

Looking at the rankings before the Stieglitz v Abraham fight...
1. Robert Stieglitz
2. George Groves
3. James DeGale
4. Lucian Bute
5. Ezequiel Osvaldo Maderna
6. Sakio Bika
7. Willbeforce Shihepo
8. Isaac Ekpo
9. Maxim Vlasov
10. Darren Barker
11. Adonis Stevenson
12. Edwin Rodriguez
13. Kenny Anderson
14. Thomas Oosthuizen
15. Yuzo Kiyota
A lot of these just won't happen for one reason or another (already fighting someone else, promotional issues, mandatory with another organisation)
7. Willbeforce Shihepo
8. Isaac Ekpo
9. Maxim Vlasov
13. Kenny Anderson
14. Thomas Oosthuizen
15. Yuzo Kiyota
I actually begrudingly put Kenny Anderson on here because it would sell due to their history!
I wouldn't mind seeing Oosthuizen, but i doubt it'd happen with the timescale
Nobody else interests me one bit
I thought that this was being touted for Groves September fight?
Granted i'd much rather see it be the chief support for the Froch - Kessler fight and then have Saunders - Ryder in there too... would be epic, but I just don't see it happening.
If Stieglitz can smother Groves like he did Abraham he could win but from the outside Groves KOs him. He showed some power this past weekend.

It was a tremendous performance by Stieglitz but let's not forget here, Abraham is still a B or a C class fighter. Stieglitz isn't that much better. Groves has the goods to bring the fight to him. I like his jab. I say book it!!!
When is he going to be ready?
He's clearly above European Level and he's been on the cusp of the title shot for a short while.
Groves is talking Froch, let alone Steiglitez.
This is exactly the kind of fight Groves needs to get Froch.
I agree with this.
And does it really matter if Groves does get chinned anyway? He's only 24. And will most likely get number of world title opportunities.
I think it's time Groves took his first step onto the world stage and I think he's probably about ready. If Robert rushes him early and lands a few on his chin early, it could be a very interesting fight, but Groves can punch and has a big heart, so is equally dangerous.
Would be a great match and would make a hell of an undercard fight
Groves is more than ready for Stieglitz but should stay well clear of Froch, Kessler and Ward who are in their own exclusive and very 'elite' class.
Want to see the fight happen but somehow can't see it occuring unless Eddie Hearn is prepared to dig very, very deep into his pockets indeed.
My money is on Stieglitz having a last dance with Abraham, they are now tied at 1-1 and the decider would make big money in Germany.
Groves is ready wether or not he'll win isn't for sure but he'll be in the fight , it's not like Steiglitz is some monster who'll ruin him he's a decent puncher with a good workrate.
It's a solid fight but doubtful to get made, Steiglitz isn't fighting on a british undercard when there's a AA trilogy that will prolly garner mo' cashola in Germany.
Oosthuizen would be terrific if they are willing to make a big offer maybe even a Bika fight
Bit tight in terms off time like Stieglitz would get very little time off before going back too the gym too defend his title away from home.Groves is talented and i think he is ready but this fight will probably happen in Autumn
I think Groves is just about ready to go at world level. Not ready for a Froch or Kessler, but the likes of AA and Steiglitz? I think he is.
Saying that, Steiglitz seemed to be hitting a whole lot harder than ever before last night and Groves' chin is a little suspect so it would be an interesting fight.
Is Groves chin really suspect? I know he went down against Anderson but he was fighting stupidly. Andre Ward got knocked down in an early bout but was never trouble by Froch.
And Stieglitz himself has been stopped twice, admittedly against big punchers - which Groves is.
Personally I have no idea if he's ready. If not, what opponent can get him ready?
