In the relatively near future, for lack of available participants, they may have to do away with the flyweight class...and heavyweight may have to move to, say, 215 and above. But PLEASE, we cannot let them call it the "Super" heavyweight class. It's still HEAVYWEIGHT. Imagine the "heavyweight champion of the world" is not even champ of the biggest weight class in the game?
You say u disagree...but then u agree at the end :)
I didn't agree at all, I made a case for why there SHOULD be a super HW division. I mean think about a 6 ft 220lb man fighting a man that's 6'8 and weighs close to 300 lbs.
We are seeing the bigger weight classes get bigger and bigger.
If a kid lives in Philly, NY, Ct etc and he weighs 105, 108 etc? Hes getting NO fights...very few people care about those weight classes and very few boxers compete in them...evolution is going to one day see no one but extreme cases weighing the light.
i think they should bring it back to 8 weight classes... this way guys have less room to hide. there is too much stuff in between... why would a guy fight the best at 126 if he can dominate 122??

the sanctioning bodies want as many weight classes as possible cause that means more belts. do we really need 3 pounds of weight difference between weight classes?
they should raise light heavy to 180 and expand cruiser to 215
Disagree.
As long as there are countries like Mexico, Japan, Thailand, Philippines etc...there will be fly weights.
Second, humans have evolved because of nutrition, advancements in training etc and they are getting bigger, stronger and faster than ever before.
Look at the NFL for example, linemen are bigger than ever, RB's are monsters now and LB's weight 300lbs almost.
Boxing is no different, there's no reason to think a 212lb man should be fighting a 260lb behemoth. It just makes no sense and we are seeing fighters get bigger and bigger as the years go on.

You're the real Iceman correct. I was watching some espn classic & I'll be damned, you called Bramble/Mancinni, & quite a few other great fights, that's crazy. I was dying of envy.
Yeah, BushB, I ended up doing about 35 fights for the ESPNClassic network with Joe Tess...a lot of fun, definitely...
I think it might be time to re evaluate all weight classes. You dont need as many classes and the range could be bigger. You could max ww out at 150 and then make 151-160 MW or something like that.
The weight classes are a reason I wish I had control of sh*t in boxing. I would change so much about current weight classes.
This probably will happen someday, but it doesn't need to happen now.
Eventually, heavyweights will get big enough to where they would probably be best off reclassifying both heavyweight and cruiserweight. I agree, no super heavyweights, that's dumb.

I don't see what is up with it as it is & I don't see why these smaller heavyweights can not make cruiserweight (200lbs) personally.
Its not as if these cruisers in Germany aren't making decent money either. Most are probably making more than these lazy HWs are for crushing cans.
