Malignaggi chalks up Broner’s actions to immaturity
Adrien Broner’s next scheduled opponent, Paul Malignaggi, says the 23-year-old lightweight titleholder’s recent arrest and subsequent actions and statements are indicative of the undefeated boxer’s immaturity.
Malignaggi (32-4, 7 knokcouts), who is supposed to defend his WBA welterweight title against Broner on June 22, says he had runs ins with the law when he was the Cincinnati, Ohio native’s age but never boasted about his troubles as he feels Broner did by Tweeting a picture of the arrest report and mug shot.
Broner was arrested at 10:13 a.m. on Monday and charged with battery before being released the Miami-Dade Corrections and Rehabilitation Department at 7:00 p.m. Eastern Time, according to the arrest report he posted on his Instagram account before deleting it.
“He's 23 years old and he thinks that being the bad a__ is the cool thing to do,” Malignaggi told ******.com. “I got arrested at 22 years old. I hit a cop. I didn't have no fake-a__ed battery charge. You can check my record. I got arrested for assaulting an officer but I didn’t go and broadcast it.
“So if you want to be a gangster, go all out, and then mind your business and don't put it out there. Let people find out. That's a real thug if you want to be a thug. If not, just be a boxer, because that's what we are. We're boxers. I don't know what this Intstagram stuff means.
“We're out there making money and that's what we get paid to do. We don't get paid to get arrested and then to broadcast it. Believe me, I got arrested and I didn't put it out there. I'm not trying to get arrested and be known for that, I'm trying to be known for getting into the ring and beating Adrien Broner's a__. So that Instagram gangster s__t is not working. He's trying to come at me with this ‘Pauletta’ s__t, but he's losing the trash-talk war.
“He said the fight is going to end up on HBO but now it’s on Showtime, like he was Mr. HBO. So far, everything he's trying to say and do has gone backward. He's losing it. He might as well keep his mouth shut. He's not going to beat me. He's not clever enough.”

I'm one of the few that actually like both fighters in-ring styles. The difference with for me is that Paulie gets the most out of his limited skills. Broner on the other hand is a once in a generation type talent that is winning off of natural ability alone. I too would like Paulie to win just to hear him rant afterwards but you know Floyd would justify a fight vs Paulie based off a defeat of Broner and "ain't nobody got time for that".
Broner was an idiot for posting it on Instagram, but Paulie isn't one to talk. He just aired his arrest history to one up Broner. Both acted stupidly.
Exactly, he just told the world he got arrested for assault.
Getting into a fight isn't a big deal, posting pics of you're mug shot on twitter and thinking it's cool is.
There's a difference.
I have a gym full of kids that idolize Flyd and Broner, believe me. They imitate everything they do, want to fight like them and talk like them. My gym is split between the kids that hate them and the kids that love them.
I see what you mean. Posting the picture was kind of glorifying it as if it was good lol
I never wanted someone to win more than Paulie in this fight. Broner is a piece of garbage. He's everything that is wrong with sports and boxing. Listening to him talk is an embarrassment.
Tweeting a pic of you're mug shot...really? What a loser, he's trying so hard.
This may be one of the few times where I disagree with you, Cua. I think he's dysfunctional outside the ring. However, I wouldn't say he's "everything that's wrong with boxing". He has formidable skills in offense and defense, and his ego and demeanor allow him to generate interest and notoriety. Boxing is a business and when I look at him, I see a future star--not because they tune in to see him win--but rather tune in to see if he'll lose. And in the end, he'll be successful.
Of course, none of it matters if Broner keeps landing on the wrong side of the law. I enjoy watching him fight and am always rooting for him but I understand why someone would despise him.
But I'll tell you something I highly agree with: if there was ever a time I'd love to root against Broner, it'd be against Paulie. I'm not a fan of Paulie, but the entertainment value would be priceless in the post fight interviews with Paulie letting out a machine gun rant as to why he won.
I still think Broner's going to beat Paulie, though.
yeah kids see people with that kind of attitude and adopt it as their own and turn into dicks lol. Before I didn't like Broner but now I kind of take him as he's kidding about everything (even though he's not) and its more entertaining.
But that still doesn't excuse robbing old ladies. But getting in a fight isn't that big of a deal, especially for someone with his attitude even if its an act.

You're right but as a boxing star and someone in the public eye, he has more influence than the avg guy. So many young kids see this and think it's great, believe me they do.
Paulie needs to turn the clock back.

This could be a chery pick gone wrong but chances are very slim. Unless Paulie magically gets his legs back overnight.

Well, you know who else should he ashamed? The networks getting behind him and promoting him. But they're (the networks) getting their money so I doubt they care about who's watching and what they're learning.
