We have yet to see if Broner even brings any speed or power up to welterweight but does he pose a bigger threat than a drained Ward at middleweight? Discuss.
I voted for Ward. I have never seen him fight at 160. With over 30 hours to rehydrate under today's rules he might not be all that drained. Broner has no chance to beat Mayweather at 147 today in my opinion. Broner is a lightweight and Floyd is too big and too good for him.
Though yet to be tested at welterweight, I believe it is a more natural weight for Broner, and we will see what he brings. Saying that if he shows to still be impressive, he is a threat to any Welterweight.
Ward being drained is a big question but would still possess the size advantage, and quit a big one.
A guy going up in weight will probably be more effective then a guy draining himself lol
especially since Ward doesn't want to do it except for Mayweather.
But ya never know..
Well it doesn't have to be Mayweather, to gauge how good Broner is at 147. That is unfair. No matter how green, accomplished, or prime a fighter is, gauging how good they are in the first at 147 against Mayweather is completely unfair.
Malignaggi is more than enough testing the waters fight for Broner.
Marquez's first fight at WW was against Mayweather, he got his ass kicked, was left for dead as a WW. Went back down to 135 to stop Katsidis, came back up to fight Pacquiao twice and beat him both times at 144 and 147. Marquez most likely beats a lot of the top 10 WW's right now. People thought he was no good at that weight, because well, he fought Floyd Mayweather. Broner beating guys like Malignaggi, Alexander-Brook winner, would be enough for me to see Broner is as good a WW as the rest of the top 10 WW's.
Plus the 140 guys are going to come up pretty soon because with Mayweather, Pacquiao, Marquez, Broner, Bradley, Guerrero, Alexander/Brook, Berto, Maidana, Malignaggi, Thurman, and Lopez up there, WW will once again rise as the best division in boxing either by late this year or early 2014.
Got excited and rambled a bit in the end.
Malignaggi is not a good way to test how he'll do at 147lbs..there's going to be a HUGE difference when Malignaggi connects compared to when someone like Ortiz connects flush..
Broner needs a couple fights at 147lbs to gauge where he stands..I can say this much..if Malignaggi so as much as wobbles Broner and Broner pulls out the victory...he'll go back and take soft touches at 140lbs before going back to 47lbs again..
point is..Broner beating Malignaggi doesn't tell us much unless he completely demolishes the dude in an unbelievable fashion
Shhheeeeeeettt!!! we have yet to see Broner fight anyone worth a fuk......other than when struggled his ass off against Ponce De Leon
Where did you rank Antonio DeMarco when Broner fought him? He was the #1 ranked LW. Was that not some "worth a fuk"?
I voted before reading the question...
but in reality..neither at this point..I don't think Ward can comfortably make 160lbs...and Broner is still too green to be matched with someone like Mayweather..we'll see how he does against Malignaggi and then maybe an Ortiz to see how he looks at 147lbs

ward would prob have such low energy at 160, broner walks around 150 something i think
idk if its the angle or what but broner is big enough for 147
