He's a big name to boxing fans and an olympic gold medallist yet he isn't overly full of himself or so over paid they can't afford him. He'd also attract plenty of attention from the religious crowds.
He's bound to attract bigger numbers than Santa Cruz or Adamek-Cunningham. If you consider that the Adamek-Cunningham fight reached 3.9 million in a horrid timeslot you can probably guess that it would have done sub 400k on HBO. So take someone who was in a 1 million plus fight on HBO and do the math for NBC and we could make Ward into a huge name very quickly.
"Andre Ward is the perfect fighter for CBS/NBC"
Yes he is if CBS/NBC wants to go out of business.A lot of Wards fights are not exciting to watch at all and he`s not all that charismatic. But he is a great fighter though.
I know Floyd`s contract with showtime is tearing the haters up inside including the thread starter so i suggest you haters get some therapy before you people do something destructive.
Another riley freeman.:nonono:

Image wise couldn't agree more. Style wise I don't know but you can always match him with guys to make him look good. If I'm hbo/nbc I'd put the bhop ward fight on nbc not ppv.

they cant afford him.
its a shame though, ward is exactly the kind of fighter we need on network TV. boxing "fans" are so ignorant these days, they dont know **** about boxing so anything other than a brawl and they think its boring.
but the sport is called boxing not brawling, its the sweet science, the art of hitting without getting hit. how are you gonna turn on a boxing match and get mad because they are boxing lol.
but thats modern fans for you and its exactly why the sport is in decline. back in the day technical fighters like ward were highly appreciated for their skill and ability, ppl enjoyed watching guys like him fight. crazy i know, boxing fans enjoying the art of boxing. those are the fans we need back in boxing.
so we need guys like ward out there for everyone to see. i was drawn to the sport by technical fighters, not some meat heads taking turns punching eachother with no skill involved.
a lot of fake fans will get turned off by ward but who gives a ****? its the ppl who would become real fans of boxing and appreciate it for what it is that we need to get into the sport. if you really love boxing you will enjoy ward fight, the man is poetry in motion and he embodies what the sport is all about.
Why do people find Ward boring? Against his best opponents, he has never been boring. Yeah, it's boring to watch him beat up on Allan Green, but were people honestly bored watching him fight Kessler or Froch?
As a diehard boxing fan I wouldn't feel like a miss something if I don't watch a Andre Ward fight on free TV, Am a BIG sweet science style of boxing but to be honest I don't watch Ward or the later older Hopkins, for me i do not find them enticing to watch... I would rather watch Rios all day even though am a lesser fan of brawling than watch those two.
So I could imagine why the big networks haven't looked at Ward even though he is well spoken, well mannered, family man, Gold medallist, P4P fighter with him sitting at the top of his division, The fact that Froch and Kessler are getting more famous and hype even though he beat them both is quite puzzling but understandable.
He would break through eventually but he need some help somewhere somehow, Whether it's through an opponent or a network or a promoter going all out to showcase him even more than now.
Froch isn't boring lmao
And I don't think that is what makes a fighter exciting. Look at Khan. He's boring as ****. The most exciting part of his fight is waiting for him to get caught lolol
Khan aint boring, that dude is fast as lightning and throwing all them damn punches. Its very flashy and shiny to the eye. Froch is garbage with power.
Dont get mad at me because I make it impossible for people to lie about Ward being boring! Froch is boring. Slow ass bum brawler with power. Come get at me when he gets some flashy speed, or some slick reflexes to make him sharp.

No wonder you are bathed in red, phaggot.

Ward's style is too boring for prime time... Rios would be a good prime time fighter
Not true. People attatch the word Boring to Ward, because of how much he used to clinch, but he doesnt do that anymore. In his last fights, he was very aggressive, violent, had the crowd going insane, got multiple knockdowns, and a stoppage against Chad, and forced Froch so bad and beat the crap out of him. Ward is an excellent example of what an exciting fighter is. Skills, take risks, violence, aggression, killer instinct, can box, move, defense, brawl. People these days dont even pay attention to fighter's evolution, they just keep attaching that same lable to his name, back when he was still improving.
If he's so attractive don't you think they would have had him already? Being clean (even though he has all those tattoos for a Christian) is not always attractive.
Hopkins got big by fighting on network TV back around 2004-5 or some time like that. I think it was on FOX. Mayweather got big by being a gold medalist and beating DLH. Don't make this a race thing. People only care about brand awareness. Once you get eyes on someone they tend to stick.
I'm not making it a race thing. I'm just saying that they established themselves amongst a certain demographic which help their popularity. Like how Canelo is popular amongst Mexicans. Hopkins got popular via his personality (the Executioner) and inring performances (Tito Trinidad), while Floyd did something similar. Andre Ward has only been popular amongst diehard boxing fans and only a few at that. He needs more personality. No he doesn't have to be an idiot and do outlandish stuff like Floyd, but he needs to get his name out there. He's kind of like Bradley in that regard. Great fighter, boring personality. And boring doesn't put bottoms in seats.

when did mayweather win a gold medal?
People do care about boring. Ward's one of my favorites, but his style really doesn't appeal to a casual audience. Of course us diehards like him, but that's a totally different demographic. The difference between him and Mayweather/Hopkins is that they had impressive KO/highlight reel type victories early in their careers and establish their fanbases amongst the African-American community. Not to mention their outspoken personalities. Ward's squeaky clean image won't win him any popularity contests. He doesn't have any real notable KOs except Dawson. So I doubt he'd be a good fit to even headline a PPV imo. Great fighter, just doesn't have the personality to be a star...at least not currently.
What he really needs is a rival. Someone to bring out the dog in him. Like a modern day Nigel Benn. Just a mean boxer who'll rile him up during the buildups. That'll get people talking for sure.
