It's no doubt that Freddie Roach has been a great trainer but with losses for his biggest fighters last year I've seen some people speculate he's on the decline, me included, I know you don't forget what you learned or how to train really but there could be outside factors as in loss of focus, more severe effects from parkinsons etc.
What are your thoughts?
Is this a serious question? Lol on the decline? Does a bear **** in the woods? Please man he is on on a decline, he HAS declined...for years. Hell he was never even that good to begin with, all this BS came from all the Pacmania that has been going on for 5-6 years. Roach is a mediocre trainer period. Just remember this, if Pac had not come along, 90% of the world would never even have heard of Roach.
Not Roach's fault Khan has a glass chin, Linares has skin made out of paper, that Vanes fought the best 154 pounder of the world, Chavez is a lazyfuck, and Marquez is on Peds.
Linares was winning and Roach can't control Khan in the ring. Still though, took on way too many fighters and Khan and JCC Jr. were complaining they weren't getting enough time and left.
Yea this is one of the things I had in mind hes kinda spreading himself too thin doing too much at once. I guess the title is misleading then, as he wouldn't really be declining as a trainer but just maybe needs to work with less fighters to be able to be effective as a trainer. It's gotta be hard to turn down big fighters though when they come looking to you to be their trainer
More to do with his fighters than him IMO. He laid out a game plan for Khan but Khan has some really low ring i.q and not the best chin and this is coming from a big Khan fan. Pac got caught it happens, he was winning that fight and was doing better than he had than the fight v Marquez previously before that punch. It was more about how Marquez improved (whether he was legit or not) than how Pac declined to me. Linares I haven't followed him too much but I heard it was because of his cut it cost him big time, iirc.
Its more to do with match-ups than him declining IMO.

Bad year is being nice.
I think he put too much on. He's taking in all these fighters and look what happens... all of them lost... at least his high profile ones did, last year

What does that mean, that he forgot everything he knows about boxing? Look at Nacho, he never physically trains his fighters (from what i know), yet he is probably the greatest trainer ever.
He's having a bad year, it happens

I'm not really a fan of him as a corner man, he does not really show any urgency and he takes forever to give a fighter some instructions and even then sometimes he relies on others to give instructions (Buboy for Pac). He definitely knows Boxing, he constantly has loads of new high profile fighters from MMA/Boxing coming to train with him, so what does that tell you?
He's training Pac, Ortiz, Shogun Rua, GSP and amongst many others at the moment. His style works with fighters who have a chin and have speed. Pure offense and angles.
