I noticed this a lot, lol, when they get into a confrontation they say BROOKLYN all day mu****a! or always drop that they are from the BK as if it gives them street cred or supposed to make the opponent scared like "oh damn he is from BK I better watch out I am going to lose! he has the special BK powers that will hurt me in the ring!" lol

You severely underestimate mental toughness. Growing up in poor areas, makes you grow up faster. Having mental toughness is more important than being physically tough.
I have seen countless times in the gym, kids that are built like brick houses, come in and think that's all they need to kick ass. Then they get hit in the face, and they don't like that at all.
Heart takes you a long way. There's a reason that so many tough fighters are from Mexico, Asia, Africa etc....Poor parts of the world where they aren't boxing for fun, they are boxing to eat.
I will take kids from the inner city and ghetto any day over some pampered kid that just wants to box because it's a hobbie.
All of the kids I have in the gym are either black or Hispanic and it's not a coincidence. They are poor, grew up in the worst areas of Miami and you can see the difference.
I'm not disputing you, and generalizing that every kid who doesn't come from a low income area is pampered is dumb, no offense. But you seen to agree.....people from lower income backgrounds tend to become boxers because it's a poor mans sport. A person who's well off, regardless of color (don't know why we had to go there), isn't going to box. They are going to play other sports that aren't going to threaten them physically the same way boxing will.
I come from a low income neighborhood growing up, where 35-40% of the population in in poverty. I'm proud of that, but it doesn't define who I am.
And the original discussion here was these guys who say I'm from so and so, and that makes me tough, you don't want to f** with me. We weren't talking about mental toughness when this thread started, it was about these guys who think coming from rougher neighborhoods makes you physically tough, because it doesn't.
As far as mental toughness.....you don't have to come from a bad area to have mental toughness either.
Better weather, is it cheaper tho? I dunno, I have family in NYC and I just think it is a special place to live, so many amenities, stuff happening all the time, 4 airports so you can travel anywhere at the drop of a hat. Expensive sure and that's a definite factor but if you can afford it...
That's true. I just like the more wide open/spread out areas. I'm from Denver, where downtown it's pretty condensed, but 99% of the Denver metro area is spread out over a wide radius. Same thing in LA and most places out west here. NYC is just too condensed for me, everyone is on top of everyone, but depending on where you're from in the UK, you're probably more use to that than someone from the western US.
Brooklyn is worse, I heard you can't find s**t there for anything less than 1500-2000 a month. I mean I know the pay wages are higher due to cost of living there, but damn I can't imagine living in NYC. I'll take our other huge city, LA, over it any day of the week.

No, the reason most boxers come from a rough background is because it's a poor mans sport.
But a poor man who had it hard growing up, in terms if finances and what not, might not be physically the toughest guy. Being from somewhere doesn't make you physically tough. A lot of people from lower income areas like to holler a lot, but a lot times they aren't so much without their boys behind them. I saw this growing up and it's gotten terrible with this younger era of kids/young men.
And there's bad areas in every city, some more so than others and some worse than others. I'd live ANYWHERE in California before some cities in the Midwest.

yea new york is real expensive i live in new york for a 1 bedroom you probably pay minnimum 1100
Yeah that's some bulls**t. Downtown Denver, like skyscraper downtown and the gentrified areas near downtown are expensive here. I just don't think it's worth it, but I mean some people like living downtown downtown and being able to walk everywhere and what not.
I remember visiting my aunt in New York City, and this was when I was younger. We took one of those stupid uptown bus tour things, because I'd never been to NYC before. And this was back in like 2002, so I can't imagine now.....but the tour guide guy said even in Harlem, which is now being gentrified and everything, that you can't get rent any cheaper than like 1500 a month or some s**t. I was like who the f**k would live in this city for these prices, no offense to anyone or anything. I thought California and places in Colorado were ridiculous for prices, but NYC takes the cake, for the places I've been at least.

You mean it used to be a hellhole and now it's much more habitable place.
That's the price of living on Manhattan island where the world's financial elite go to work.

Brooklyn is just another Manhattan now
back during the days of the Brooklyn Dodgers, it USED to be its own city, with its own personality.
Lots of immigrants and black folks who made Brooklyn what it was and it was the perfect place for Jackie Robinson to integrate into baseball. This was the time it got its reputation. No nonsense, tough, working class people.
Now its just full of hipsters and really the people repping brooklyn are no different from people in the Bronx.
Being from Brooklyn means absolutely nothing, your nothing special. Get over yourself you hipster clowns

First off....I'm black, and no.....saying Banks is lyrically superior to Em is madness, but this isn't a rap thread.
I don't care where anyone is from, that doesn't make them tough physically or mentally. Riddick Bowe is from Brownsville in Brooklyn, a well known neighborhood, and he ducked a damn British fighter like a b*tch.....I wonder how his boys in Brooklyn felt about that one.
And shooting a gun doesn't equal tough either. Some white hick from Fargo may very well be able to beat the hell out of another person from a rougher neighborhood in whatever city. Neighborhood's don't equal toughness. It depends on the person.
