Look at who you're listing. Lemieux, Zbik, Bursak? Stay off of BoxRec
WTF? Lemieux, Zbik, and Bursak are all better than Makoto, Lajuan and Ishida so STFU. I've watched all these guys fight before and I know they can fight.
Thought I remember something along these lines, but I wasn't sure. I'll wait and see what Sergio does after Murray, if goes for another Chavez Jr. match, then I'll start to question if he wants to fight GGG or not.
That's exactly what's he's gonna do. They're pretty much already gearing up for the rematch assuming they both win their tune ups (Martinez/Murray & Chavez/Macklin).
first time i heard about that.
yeah, i don't see vera being as hesitant as rosado to let his hands go, and also being a bigger guy, i think it'll make for a good fight. we'll see what kind of success a guy like vera can have against golovkin if the fight is made. i'm down for it, hopefully hbo approves of it if it does have to happen in june.
well golovkin won his belts against ouma and simon (i think), so i really wouldn't put too much stock into them. also, there isn't that many tough contenders out there at MW, it's not like the situation a weight class below with alvarez and the wbc belt. plus, i wouldn't pick any of the top contenders over golovkin (most i would do is consider a pirog fight 50/50).
an ishida fight isn't good, i agree, but it's a stay busy fight happening in monaco, so i'm cool with it. i honestly wouldn't have mind if they threw it on espn2, that card has a bunch of names on it. golovkin's people were talking about an adama fight before settling for ishida, not sure what happened with that.
The card is gonna be one of those $25 PPVs. I think I'll buy it, neither of the LHW bouts seems like a mismatch.
Brian vs Vera would be an okay BAD undercard, but not a main event. Macklin would be good and he said he would be willing to fight Golovkin next recently, but he also seems to be in the running for JCC. But Vera is also seems to be in the running for JCC, so that might free up Golovkin from fighting a mandatory next.
Vera won't fight scared like Rosado so I think it'll be a decent fight while it lasts. These top 20 fringe contenders like Vera are the type of fighters Golovkin should have fought before becoming champion, but if no one else wants to fight him, I'm okay with him doing it now. I much prefer Vera over someone like Ishida for sure.

N'dam would be way better than Vera. But i doubt N'dam.would take it.
N'damn had previously given up his WBA spot to fight for the WBO. Would seem weird for the WBA to reward the guy with the #1 spot immediately after losing his WBO title and voluntarily vacating from the WBA rankings.
But yeah, as far as a better fight, N'damn is better than Vera. As far as rankings and mandatories though, I don't think it makes sense to give it to N'dam.
Cause they apparently just ordered the mandatory. A pretty ridiculous one, I don't see Vera anywhere in the current WBA rankings. Though not any real appealing, makeable fights either.
Yea.... funny how he wasn't rated in the top 15, but all of a sudden he's now the mandatory
This is a good fight for Golovkin at this time, but I was hoping for Geale/Pirog on that June date...
Me too, but I doubt Pirog jumps straight into that fight. He was supposed to take a march tune-up, but that fell apart.
wba's top 15 according to fightnews.com
1. Martin Murray
2. Felix Sturm
3. Julien Marie Sainte
4. Patrick Nielsen
5. Sebastian Zbik
6. Gilberto Ramirez
7. Jarrot Fletcher
8. Grzegorz Proksa
9. Andy Lee
10. George Tahdooahnippah

like i said in my first post in this thread, if golovkin can't get the other titleholders in the ring with him (or the top contenders like pirog, n'dam, macklin) than just keep fighting actual MWs that will get in the ring with him. but would hbo approve of guys like vera and rubio for golovkin?

lol Brian Vera was not even on the WBA raking now he mandatory? Its its like Keith Thurman he was not part of the WBA or WBO ranking now he #2 WBA, and fighting for the WBO interim title on saturday LOL at today boxing rankings..
Besides the other full champions, which fighters do you think would make some amazing mandatory compared to Vera? Sturm is coming off two loses. N'dam is coming off his Quillin losses and has that rematch clause. Zbik is coming off two loses. Proksa was already beaten by Golovkin. Rubio is the mandatory for Quillin. Macklin would be fine (he's not even listed in the WBA rankings for whatever reason), but since losing officially losing to Sturm and Martinez, he's only win is Alcine. Murray actually made sense when he was the WBA interim champ, but he's fighting Martinez. Solimon is the IBF mandatory, but who knows what's going on with his positive drug test.
That pretty much leaves the fringe contenders in the Vera quality.
Yes, it's strange that Vera isn't ranked in the WBA rankings and suddenly is the mandatory, but some of the guys ahead of Vera in the WBA list are even stranger.

Those are actually step ups for him...

Proksa, Rosado vs those guys, it's a wash. But we wouldn't talking those guys if the likes of Quillin had decided to sack up

Vera is a decent pressure fighter, he might bring the fight to GGG and maybe test him a bit. I would much have rather Golovkin have fought the likes of Rubio, Vera, Lemieux, Bursak, Adama, Guerrero, Zbik, etc. instead of his actual run of opponents: Lajuan Simon, Makoto Fuchigami, Proksa, Rosado, and Ishida. Proksa is the only decent opponent out of that lot...
Ideally I would hope Golovkin can fight at least two of the following before the year is done: Geale, Quillin, Macklin, Pirog, Rubio, Barker, Chavez Jr. Then we may be able to truly assess how good he is, but as long as he's fighting the Makoto's and Ishida's of this world we won't.

Abel Sanchez said HBO rejected Rubio for Golovkin's first fight.
Thanks for the info. I never saw him mention GG's name till this december, after Rosado had already signed. Before new years the news comes out he's lined up for the winner of Quillin/Guerrero, so it's a moot point.
we ever hear from him when GG is looking? Back in July his name was mentioned, he went quiet.

so it's golovkin/vera on hbo in june? idk why, but for some reason i'm okay with that. it's not much different than rosado imo. at least vera's a legit MW and is coming off a good win (albeit an older dzizniruk). everyone else is booked up. martinez only fights twice a year and he's fighting murray in april. chavez is suspended and is most likely having his return fight against macklin. quillin is fighting guerrero, and talks from what i've seen are geale/soliman are likely. where's pirog? imo that's the most interesting fight to be made besides martinez/golovkin.
i'm not subscribed to hbo anymore so i'm not really concerned on golovkin eating up dates against guys like rosado or vera. have at it if none of the other titleholders are available imo. wasn't rubio calling golovkin out? not sure, but i remember reading that headline on here before. if golovkin can't get the best in the ring with him, the second best thing to do is stay active, but against legit MWs since he's at that weight class. vera will actually make for a pretty entertaining fight tbh.
Didn't Rubio say he'd fight him? Didn't Barker if the money was right? Whats that little stocky guy called? He challenged him.
He said that while being lined up for Quillin and not when Golovkin was actually looking for an opponent. Hearns already made it pretty clear Barker was fighting him
Watch the fight before you start talking shit. You clearly don't understand boxing if you're saying that Dzinziruk wasn't winning any round at all.
Like i said he clearly won 1 or 2 rounds. I know what i saw and the judges and most boxing fans would agree with me. Good thing you've found the fight, now watch it for the first time bro

The problem is, Rubio may have said that after Rosado signed, he wasn't saying a peep when the fight was still on the table:
http://espn.go.com/blog/dan-rafael/tag/_/name/gennady-golovkin
Among the potential opponents who have been brought up are Marco Antonio Rubio (who lost a clear decision on HBO to Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. in a title fight in earlier this year), Fernando Guerrero (a one-time blue chip prospect and Al Haymon client) and Brian Vera (who knocked out Andy Lee a few years ago and then lost every round to him in a rematch on HBO 13 months ago). I’m told that Rubio turned down the fight and that HBO (thankfully) rejected Vera. HBO would accept Guerrero, but there might be an issue between Haymon and K2 over future contract options. So we’ll see who they come up with for Golovkin.
Why don't we ever hear from him when GG is looking? Back in July his name was mentioned, he went quiet. Now he's lined up for Quillin anyway.
Barker's promoter pretty much said, forget about that fight. You seen the interview?
