How can it be, I mean weed slows you down, make your muscles relax. I know you will say it's illegal in law but boxing federations shouldn't disqualifie fighters for it. And don't think of me as a Chavez Jr. fan beacuse i'm not but it's just doesn't make sense. What's your opinion?
Bottom line is it's on the list, don't do it. plus he slid on other tests with no punishment and sometimes he skipped out on testing all together. It was making the commissions look bad so they made him pay.
Making the commissions look bad? They recently let off 2 steroids cheats and morales off with no punishment at all. Oh but the big bad weed smoker gets 9 months and 30% fine

I used to smoke weed before I went to the gym. I would run/train for quite a while, like 2 hours and not even be tired. Not saying I can't do that while not being high but I would just zone out and before I knew it, 2 hours had gone by.
It's not illegal though, smoking is technically mind altering and it's not gonna do you any favours in the ring neither is alcohol or weed.
The odd one out? It's the legality if someone chooses to drink alcohol all the time in training then they will get their rewards also Alcohol tends to clear itself from your body after about 24 hours, testing would be almost impossible in its current format.
If weed was legal it might not be on the banned substances list but it's not gonna do anyone any favours in the ring, My point being just because something is good for you doesn't mean you can ban it.
Who cares if its illegal, since when are the sports commissions the police? Alcohol is way worse and mind altering then weed, theres no reason it should be on the list. If it has nothing to do with the sport, why should they care?
I've never done weed, but thats just ridiculous that they go hard on those who smoke and turn a blind eye to roids
Bottom line it was stupid for them to suspend him so long and with such a huge fine.
Saying that, he should know better being a pro. He needs to grow the fuk up and understand what substances are legal and which are not and abide by the rules.
I agree on pretty much everything, but I'd like to amend something: The suspension and fine weren't "stupid;" they bordered on criminal. Chavez would have to earn approximately 1.5 million dollars just to clear 900k. That fine was draconian at best and criminal at worst.

You can say the same thing for weed
PlusIts mind altering. I dont see it on the banned list

Try getting wasted often while training, I'm sure come fight night the commission won't have to punish you the opponent will.

Mind altering?......So is alcohol

I don't where where it says it's a performance enhancing drug, but it is a banned substance.
Hypothetically weed could help you lose weight, but realistically it offers no advantage but I think the main issue here is this is the second time Chavez has been caught using a banned substance it shows contempt for the testing and the commissions if it was the first time he'd probably have gotten much less. And he's missed tests before if I recall correctly?
Anything that affects a fighters judgement is correctly illegal, it could be used to cover other things up too.
^ This.
It's a mind altering drug. Why would you not want to ban that?
Sounds to me like the TS is basically just mad pots illegal. Hey man me too, but here's the thing, nothing irritates me more than a man making millions and throwing it away just for some momentary pleasure. I hate that pot's illegal, but when you're at a Chavez stage more is expected of you than the average person. For the record I'd rather see a boxer get stoned every night than drunk, but overall I just want to see them follow the rules.

Pot can help a boxer recover when a boxer is squeezing himself down to a weight he should`nt be fighting at so he could blow up real big in weight on fight night to have a size advantage.Sounds familiar?
I agree with you 100%. We live in a very uptight world. A boxer could get drunk every day of his training and that would be OK but pot in his system is a big no no.
Well any drug that is illegal in general is banned in boxing , but maybe since it slows u down and makes u relax means you might take a beating, a fight isn't somewhere u wanna be relaxed.
