You are underestimating Haugen. He was a very good fighter, with one of the best jabs of that time.
Im not underestimating Haugen at all,,, He was a very tough guy that came to fight,, I just think people look at ward's record and dismiss him, when in reality they are very much of similar skill level, and a fight between them would be 50/50 or 55/45 haugen,,,,,
Haugen had the better career, no doubt,, I just dont think he is levels above ward,,
Ward was limited,, but lets not act like haugen wasnt a one hit wonder
Ward wouldnt get beatdown vs chavez like haugen did
They are both the same class of fighter IMO,, tough guys who showed alot of heart, but nothing special,, Haugen pulled one big upset and that was his claim to fame,,, Ward wasnt much better, and very limited but no doubt he would beat up haugen H2H

besides gatti(is gatti good?) who did ward beat? ward was an espn2 fighter who had a movie made about him because he won the wbu world title or some piece of crap. even zab judah beat him over 12 rounds without getting dropped, doing weird dances, or having a mental breakdown so how good can he be?
Yeah and that was Judah's greatest performance arguably, I agree with Haugen being better than Ward but Ward might have offered more in terms of power and body punching. I don't know, I think some of you guys need to relax :lol1:
Chavez stopped better guys than Mickey fvcking Ward. He'd stop him too.

Yep. Chavez was on a whole different level.

Bro I'm sorry to say this and don't take offense but your defending of Ward is getting ridiculous. Haugen was better than Ward...
Mayorga beat Six Heads Lewis then Forrest.. Twice. Has a win over vargas and had a pretty damn goo career. As good a career you could have going up against Tito, Oscar, Shane etc.
Buster Dougles KNOCKED out Tyson. I mean... Nothin else he could have done would ever beat that.
Baldomir beat Zab then... Ward conqueror Gatti. >__>... I LOVE Ward but again, no offense but it's becoming delusional defending. Chavez sr i a real ATG and Ward all of a sudden does better than Haugen?
I think Chavez Sr retires Ward in a single fight. Or at least changes his career. What stride did Ward hit? Doing well vs Gatti?
i think ur highly overrating mickey ward honestly. greg haugen was a legit contender and champion in his day. ward was never that. there's a big guf in their achievements. not only that, they fought in the same era, so its not like theres a radical difference in the shape of the boxing landscape.
I totally get what your saying,, but ward didnt have his head on right till much later in his career
I really dont think there is much difference skill wise between ward and haugen
IMO Ward would beat haugen in a fight
I heard that after the fight Greg Haugen was asked if he still tought JCC only fought cab drivers and his response was. "Well yeah but Mexican cab drivers are really tough"
Lol

Yeah but haugen did it when there was maybe 2 belts not 14
Baldomir, Buster Douglas, Mayorga, were all lineal champs,,, never did anything else,,, So it is possible to be an average fighter and be a champ
yeah but he was only champ by pulling a huge upset,, rosado almost did it with quillen, Ward came on alittle late in his career,,,
Haugen was nothing special just a tough out, and could pull the upset if you werent prepared or took him lightly
Yeah but haugen did it when there was maybe 2 belts not 14
