for me it was winky vs tito
I can remember being a young kid in nyc. Tito was like a god amongst ricans. I would defend his "victory" over dlh to the death against my mexican peers lol. He koed mayorga in an entertaining fight. So i thought he would do the same to winky. Tito vs this pillow puncher?... its a no brainer. hes gonna steamroll him. Boy was i wrong.
i watched winky just embarrass tito for 12 rds. he couldnt land anything. Winky just pumped that right jab all night. protecting his face with his gloves and his midsection with his elbows. It was a masterfull display of the sweet science on winkys part. He negated everything tito was trying to do in there and just laughed at him while doing it.
I became a hardcore fan after this fight. and a big fan of pure boxers. Before that night i loved to watch guys like roy jones who were exciting. I hated guys like tarver.... but after witnessing winkys brilliance... I was hooked.
What fight turned u into a hardcore fan?
Watching fights like Chavez/Camacho and Carbajal/Gonzalez when I was a young teen got me into boxing.
However, up until then being a casual fan, Tito/Vargas made me into a hardcore fan.
I mean, Tyson..punch out was the shizzz, original KO Kings was too. Rocky.."Yo, Adrian!!!"
I've always been a fan of boxing, but watching a replay of Duran-Leonard is what really got me into boxing. Duran was such a bad ass, I wanted to be a mean m'fer just like him.
I remember back in the day around '98-99, boxers use to have their own web sites. In the guest books I would troll and piss people off..lol. I was a troll before trollin was trollin.
I probably wouldn't be a if it wasn't for the "Blackbox" ;)
PAC stans. I was at college at the time around the PAC-margarito fight and at that point I had watched only a handful of fights like Oscar, Floyd fights and the PAC hatton. My roommate was the epitomy of a pacstan and since I'm Mexican he and his other friends would rub the mexicutioner in my face. So I discovered boxingscene and armed myself with knowledge and discovered that he was not really a fan of boxing but just a pacstan. But I fell in love with the sport and followed devotedly ever since
Tyson vs Spinks or Bruno.
I was a little kid and remember my Grandgfather watching one or the other who also introduced me to Jones jr.
Between Tyson and Jones I was hooked as a kid. Then when Mike Tyson's punch out hit NES... It was game over.
A few years later Mayweather hit the scene and I never looked back.
Chiquita Gonzales-Micheal Carbahall. That was 1 of the greatest fights ever!!:boxing:i couldnt agree more. For this fight i was 16-17 and won my first boxing bet with my first paycheck
I'm only 20 years old, but I've always been intrigued by the sport. I remember the family getting together and ordering Tyson-Holyfield II back in the day. But I can say that the fight that really started it all for me was Tyson-Lewis.
i was always fascinated with boxing. one of my earliest memories is watching a fight, no clue who fought though. i cant have been more than 3-4 years old. i was always drawn to the sport and once i started watching i got hooked instantly.
a guy at school boxed and i ended up asking some questions about it, we talked for a bit and when i got home i started reading about fighters and watching clips on youtube. i took the rings list of ATGs, picked one fighter at a time and just watched as many fights of theirs as i could find before moving on to the next. i would watch every day for hours, it was years before a single day passed that i didnt watch boxing.
so basically the day i followed up on my life long fascination was the day i got obsessed. hearns' fights, versus cuevas duran and shuler in particular had a big impact on me though. when i understood a tall skinny guy like myself was the scariest thing there is i knew this is what my life would be devoted to.
interesting. i would have never thought that fight birthed a fan.
I was always a fan of boxing/anything fighting, just didnt care about following boxing whatsoever. I saw cotto, saw his fighting mannerisms and style and it reminded me of me, so i was hooked in that regard. Didnt know anything about cotto, but i became a big fan of his from then on. His fights with judah and mosley just cemented that fact.
From casual into really interested was Calzaghe vs Lacy
then into hardcore i watched Barrera vs Morales 1

confused here...so you were hardcore first then went backwards?
Cotto-malignaggi
Was just flipping through channels, this fight was just starting so i figured id watch, and was hooked after the second round.
interesting. i would have never thought that fight birthed a fan.
