Yea whatever I've been watching boxing all my life and remember watching cotto in the Olympics and hearing the hype about him.ive followed most his pro career of course he has mileage on the clock my point was that fans are quick to make and break fighters and I reckon we see how he fairs in his next fight before we say he's over the hill
true story... fans are quick to retire fighters... i dont believe he is shot....
i would love to see if he could make 147...
but i think he can beat a lot of top 154 guys still...
styles make fights... saying that.... cotto still was very competitive against trout... i dont see why he cant win a rematch against trout with the right adjustments...
i also think cotto needs a new conditioning coach...
i dont believe his conditioning is as poor as a lot of posters on here say... but new philosophy in that department could work wonders.. i thought his conditioning with steward was great ...And he didn't just block punches he slipped them... it seems to me that blocking punches... it seems to me that blocking punches for cotto still leaves his face at risk for swelling and bruising with the impact... cotto's defense is far better than advertised... just check the Compubox for his fights with trout Mayweather and Margarito... at junior middleweight cotto is a plus 10 on the plus and minus Compubox rating.... while I like cottos movement I think he burns up so much energy... while I don't want to see him plodding either... there is a middle ground... look at cotto vs mayorga... the perfect balance, which allowed him to slip punches and use his reflexes better...

The cotto vs mayweather wasn't shot.
Trout is a beast the matchup didnt cotto due to size, simple as that.
Size & reach can trump alot of **** when skill is not mountains apart.

Cotto Shot, I think NOT
what moron thinks hes shot?
the man is past his prime for sure, but he still has something left in the tank. he is certainly nowhere near shot.
i wonder if people understand what "shot" means. Yes his best weight is at 147 but to say he is shot is ludicrous. We all know if he changes his diet a little bit and he can make 147 even with a couple of lbs to spare and still be healthy enough for 12 rounds, he does fade in the eleventh and twelth but i still think he can be a problem for anybody at 147, he just has to stay away from home cooking puerto rican food and he"ll be good. trust me i know its tough, im haitian, i love haitian food but i stay away from it when im training.
I wouldn't say he's shot, not by any means. He's just not the same person mentally. I say this version of Cotto is more than post Margarito (pre rematch) Cotto. He just gets frustrated and becomes really irritated when fighting, though he stands firm and isn't the type to lash out. I think he's THAT full of himself, he thinks he should just win. He might not realize how diminished he possibly could be, if we can even call it that?
I'm a Cotto fan. Dude is vicious or at least was at one point. I mean look at what he did to Judah but man, that was 6 years ago. Besides left hooking a one legged foreman to the body, showing improvement when avenging his first defeat and giving Mayweather a tough fight. Its a bit hard to ignore all the other things that come out when he's in the ring.
I think Cotto can make a comeback. Trout may have caught an off Cotto. He didn't look animalistic in that fight. There's still something there and I don't think it's Pedro's fault.
No way.. Miguel just needs a better conditioning regimen. I don't think he trained 110% for this fight. Trout won a clearcut decision but there were moments where Miguel looked like he could pull the killswitch, falling prey to sloppiness in skirmishes. He trained in Big Bear and THEN wrapped things up in Florida? Wtf? Pedro Diaz analyzed only 2 of Trouts fights and said it was all the tape he needed to formulate a gameplan.
Trout's style is puzzling but I still think he looked beatable against a game fighter of Miguel's caliber. If Cotto isn't willing to take his training seriously enough then it's time for him to retire. It's not fair to his legacy. For the record, I wholeheartedly support a move back down to 147.
Yes and that was due to his Mother wanting to go back to FL. You may have seen it during the first episode of Showtime. You cant have those type of distractions that will/could have a significant negative result.
As I stated earlier, he needs a dedicated conditioning coach and clean his diet.

Are you blind? Miguel won that last round before the stoppage how on earth can you say that he would have in serious trouble if the fight continued? If margarita had won the last 2 rounds before the stopage then I could understand your thought but he didnt. Also Floyd himself said Cotto was one of his toughest so throw that rumor out the window.
As far as Miguel being shot I would say no, he aint shot. Trout was just to big and long for Miguel, he couldnt get in and do work. He bit off more than he could chew and paid. He lost to Floyd but it wasnt easy. Ill wait till his next fight to see where he stands.
Same with me.
He needs a dedicated conditioning coach, may be Alex Ariza? Hell, he got fatty boy Jr. into making weight and still be strong he may be able to work some good stuff on Miguel.
It's not just the physical, he's long lost the killer vibe he used to have. When's the last time he brutalized someone to the body?
I somewhat I agree with this statement. I have not seen his killer instinct in a long time actually, I cant even recall the last time he just pressured and went for the kill....may be Jenkins? Not sure.
When he connects good, he tends to step back admire his work. Like a snake strike, and waits to observe the pray as it dies.
not really margo is not hard to box, and cotto was looking like he was gonna be in serious trouble if it wasnt for that stoppage, and against mayweather it is rumored that he was (mayweather) exteremly sick.
Now i know these are excuses and what not but if they are true, it kinda explains cotto success and writes it off at the same time.
only time will tell

He was never that great to begin with. Remember how he changed his game plan and "ran" from Mosley those last 3 rounds? That was before Margarito got a hold of him.

Lets make this clear, and I am in no way anything close to a Cotto fan. He is not shot!!!! He lost to the best boxer on earth in mayweather, and then essentially fought a fighter with the same slippery defense and style of mayweather but only physically bigger and stronger (trout). He should get a better conditioning coach and move down to 147 (he would give anybody not named pacman or floyd hell at 147) Picture COtto vs. Marquez. He's stuck between weight classes which is a rare situation that some boxers go through.
He's definitely past it a bit, but I don't think he is shot. I've been praising Trout and telling people he is legit for over two years now. Trout is very very good.
You don't think it's a bit a harsh considering he boxed the ears off marg and gave floyd his toughest test for years
Hogg guy is a hater. He calls Cotto Lazy and says Cotto has a quitters attitude....too much emotion in his opinions.
I do on the other hand believe Cotto is past his prime and is shot. I tell everyone Cotto has been shot since before Margarito 2.
Cotto is overrated.
There are always excuses when he loses.
Lets face it. Everytime the guy stepped up, he lost.
Margarito = Lost
Pacquiao = Lost
Mayweather = Lost
Trout (who is barely world class) = Lost
Cotto's best win is past prime Mosley
We'll see who has the better career at the end of the day between Cotto and the clown in your sig!
