People seem to love to say fighters are ducking each other. "Garcia is ducking Matthysse." "Donaire is ducking Rigo." "Floyd is ducking (insert fighter)." Some fights take time to materialise. Sure some fights never happen but that doesn't mean that fights don't come off because a fighter is "ducking". Boxing is a business first and fighters as well as promoters are looking to maximize profits. At times it can really suck for the fans, but that's just the nature of boxing. I doubt there are many fighters who are scared of each other.
they're naive, and disappointed about fights they want to see not materializing.
looking through this thread, i'll also add that many of them are here to "hate" certain fighters, and suck the c#cks of the ones with whom the identify. they really don't care about the actual boxing, or the fighters. they're here for selfish purposes.
Floyd obviously ducked Pacquiao, Margarito, Prime Cotto and Paul Williams.
Some fighters do ducks other fighter for whatever the reason. It doesn't always mean they're scared
But Floyd was scared though no exception. He dont fight often as he dont like fighting and is scared to fight, he sees it as an inconvinience that interrupts him living his life. Fighting often means you are more likely to lose statisticly as well even if you fight bums.
Choosing not to fight is essientially the same as ducking. And when you are not fighting and have a lot of time on your hands like Floyd you can scan the scene and cherry pick, which is what Floyd is all about. He liked that hatton had hard time at WW and nearly lost to Collazo.
You use the term money fights and then you say Margarito and Williams lol? Wheres the money in those fights? Cottos team wanted nothing to do with Floyd at 140 and Mosley and Floyd never campaigned at the same weight until late in their carreers. Mosley skipped 140 entirely and before Floyd retired Mosley was fighting at 154. His first fight back at WW was Cotto in 2008 when Floyd was retired. Once Floyd came back he fought Marquez than Mosley. Once Mosley moved up to fight Oscar that ruined any chance of a prime Floyd Mosley fight.
You are wrong!
When Margarito asked Floyd for a fight, Floyd was going to make his biggest pay day.
My point was that there are names on the list that dispute the claim that Floyd takes the best pay day since its a business. I named a few examples in a previous thread.
Floyd likes to fight opponents when they are not ready for one reason or another:
- Cotto: Arum was interviewed and said that Cotto may be the man to beat Floyd BUT NOT NOW since he was a young guy that was still developing. Arum said probably in a year perhaps a year and a half. By then, Floyd had little interest in fighting the top 147lb and went on a long vacation.
- Mosley: There were several opportunities for that fight. When Floyd fought Baldomir, he had a chance to fight Margarito in November or Mosley in December/January/February timeframe. Floyd told Mosley NO!!! There is an interview on that.
Also, Mosley fought Cotto when Floyd decided to fight a career 140lb again but at 147 then decided to retire for some strange reason! Why take on a 140lb when there were so many legit 147lb fighters including Cotto, Mosley, Margarito,....?
- Marquez: Floyd this time fought a guy that had recently fought 130-135lb fights ..... fight was at 146lb. Again, why when there were so many legit WWs?
- Williams: Asked to take on Floyd. Floyd never ever tried to take him on.
- Martinez: Was going to come down in weight for Floyd. Floyd said, fight Ward at 168 .... lol!
Floyd fans say its about money but then when Floyd can make big money, its another excuse. The bottom line is that Floyd says he is his own boss, Everyone wants to fight him .... unfortunately, Floyd prefers to fight them when there still developing or when they are old and out of prime.
Funny thing is the next time there is a thread that discusses legacy, Floyd fans will change their tune! LOL!
Because most of these posters are morons, there are only a few times that I can actually say a fighter was ducked. Like Ricky Hatton making all stupid excuses to duck Junior Witter shamelessly/blatantly because he was scared to lose, Or like GBP/Top rank using their powers to avoid a fighter that they think can derail their fighters but the word gets thrown around too quickly these days.

Can you prove that Cotto himself wanted nothing to do with Floyd? To my knowledge Cotto ducked nobody ever, hell, he even fought margarita when nobody seemed to want any of him including Floyd during that time.
Floyd was never interested in the fight so he went the PEDs route excuse. He never did that with Oscar who was said to take PEDs.
Floyd said prior to negotiations #1 that he would NEVER accept a 50/50 deal ...NEVER ..... so once Manny accepted testing, Floyd went the "I WANT ALL PPV" excuse. Just like he said he would do months BEFORE, prior to the 2009 negotiations. Its all there on video. It just took more time because his PEDs excuse was working well for him.
But that is besides the point. The TS said, its all about business and if the fighter takes on another fighter instead due to making more money then you can't say its a duck. I gave a few examples where Floyd would get more money. Then I clarified that for you. Now you are changing the subject. No problem .... but Floyd took the lesser risks for even less money! FACT!!!
Finally, Floyd is his own boss, he says. Also, everyone wants to fight him. Why couldn't he fight all those fighters that he ducked? OK, if he didn't fight one opponent but he didn't fight Margarito, Cotto, Mosley, Manny, Williams, Martinez .... not all are Arum fighters but even then, so what! Manny fought Oscar who is the man at GB. It can happen! Martinez fought Chavez Jr! It can happen!

Floyd offered Manny the fight 2x what else do does he need to do? And one of those offers was a 50/50 split. Manny pulled out and fought Clottey instead. Have you ever seen any other fighter out there get offered a 50/50 split from Floyd Mayweather? And you say Floyd didnt want the fight. Where do you get your balls?

They have to believe it, otherwise it means their national hero pulled out of the fight of the century because he was scared he wouldn't test clean.
Like I said before its a smear campaign used to discredit fighters they dont like. And I love the whole Manny said hed take less money arguement. Like im suspoded to believe Manny will fight Floyd for less money than what was offered before with stronger drug testing. Some of yall believe that bull**** but everybodies not dumb.
You're looking at it all wrong. With Oscar, Floyd took the lesser amount. With Cotto, Floyd would take higher amount, so those two fights are not comparable in the way you're looking at it.
No disrespect, but I believe your logic is flawed. I am sure Floyd came out much better financially by fighting Oscar. You are leaving out the fact that the fight had grossed over 2.4 million ppv buys. In no way can Cotto-Floyd (regardless of when It took place) was gonna do those numbers.
Besides- They did 1.5 last year with Floyd making a guaranteed $32 mil. Do u think he would have gotten that by fighting Cotto in 2007?

pac should have offered floyd to fight him in manila.
people just like to cry thats why they are always saying someone is ducking
Life is stressful, crying helps relieve the stress.

so you think 140 pound cotto was on the same level as oscar. got it. a very reasonable position. you and floyd are right. everyone else wrong.

... It appears that you missed my point. Floyd did do that on several occasions, as I pointed out. If Floyd fought Manny he would be making much much more than fighting anyone that he has ever fought. No doubts.
So Floyd had the chance to do a job for $100 million yet said no and fought for less than half that against an opponent that would NOT do much for his resume. So Floyd took less money to fight someone less risky!

How is it flawed. In the same situation you and I would do the same thing. You work at a job and make 20 dollars an hour. You wouldnt quit and go do the same job for 10 or even 15 dollars an hour would you? You absolutely wouldnt. Its Floyds job to make the biggest fight possible and thats what he tries to do. Yet you exspect Floyd to do so. Just because you think a certain fighter poses a threat to Floyd doesnt mean hes ducking said fighter.

For Floyd, Manny would have made him more than double any other fighter. So that logic is flawed Therefore, people see Floyd as a fighter who is OK with ducking a fighter. Same with Margarito. He was going to make his biggest pay to date back then. Floyd said no to that money.

Boxing is a business first and fighters as well as promoters are looking to maximize profits. At times it can really suck for the fans, but that's just the nature of boxing. I doubt there are many fighters who are scared of each other.

Most people would give Donaire and Garcia the benefit of the doubt at this point in their career as they haven't really ducked anyone. People are just naming the fight they want to see and hope it happens. That is, its not like the fighter has consistently by-passed opponents where boxing fans thought the opponent would be a tough opponent for them.
Even Floyd. I gave him the benefit of the doubt on several occasions early on. Its just that he consistently finds a way to get out of fighting opponents that he should have fought. After a while, one has to realize that Floyd is at fault for ruining the possibility of a great resume as Floyd has much more control of his destiny than most other fighters.
Tell me, who doesn't want to fight Floyd? and please don't answer with someone who was still trying to gain experience or wasn't ready ....
I can't think of anyone so that must mean that its Floyd that doesn't want to fight them!
I can't say whether Floyd is scared of anyone or not but I do believe that he avoids high risk fighters as they can ruin his precious "0" losses. He has also stated that he thinks about "health first". So he would also avoid fighters due to that reason.
