Sure thing. Let's start with size. Vargas was an absolute monster at 154. At the very least 5-10. More like 5-11 damn near close to 6 foot. If you were to go back & look at Vargas Tito he was actually outboxing the great Tito in the middle rounds. He was a solid boxer, very good skill with murderous punching power.
Now looking at ginger, he is about 5-8 at most. Not much bigger than Cotto. He has no head movement & is rather easy to hit. His handspeed isn't nothing to brag about & the jury is out on his power. Josesito hit him, an 80 year old Mosley hit him. He has stamina issues & to date hasn't fought anyone in his weight class that didn't have a doctored up ranking.
Vargas beat Quartey & Winky Wright who alone destroys ginger's 41 fights with room to spare. The quality of oponent before Vargas Tito is astoundingly 1 sided. Vargas had decent defense, controlled range well & could punch with the best of them. His jab was heavy, he picked off shots with his gloves & applied smart pressure.
I'd be surprised if ginger made it past round 4. If Vargas had ginger's resume he'd be undefeated with all by ko (probably) & taken less damge.
Agree with almost everything but the bolded is just false. Vargas had solid pop, not murderous by any means.
well then feel free to educate me??? who wins this and how good sir???? :killyou:
excuse me didnt know the thread has been made before my bad

No disrespect TS but this a question that didn't need to be asked. I could see if asked about Margarito or Kermit Citron but Vargas come on man!!!
you read my mind i was goin to do a pre-cintron margarito vs canelo but then you got these people whom woulda said "a margarito without loaded gloves blaah blah blah and the whole fifth degree" me personally i think vargas vs canelo would be a hell of a fight...
an does the kid gotta be 60-0 before he fights someone with a breathing pulse???
It is quite clear that neither 1 of you know what the hell you're talking about.

I Love Vargas but Alvarez is more powerful than him, better boxer than him,
Vargas defense was a Trash.
Alvarez destroys Vargas in 7rounds (TKO UGLY)
who gets the better of the exchange should they go to war and trade? or does canelo jus pick his shots beautifully from round 1?
i think it would be a interesting fight as long as it lasted :boxing:

Can we stop with the canelo threads already. Canelo hasnt proved Anything yet, not a damn thing. Wait till the guy fights some legit top tier opponents then we'll have a realistic idea on him. Dont know how you people can base your opinions on the the guy based just off the level of compitition he has faced thus far and then say how he would do against others from the past. I will say this though canelo is slow with weak defense and we've seen this in passed fights with against D or C level fighters. Wonder how that will hold up against B and A level fighters.
Vargas! If he survived round 1 vs Tito he can survive anything CANELO brings ANYTHING. Vargas is another fightger that gets underrated here. Also considering CANELO hadn't fought a legit 154 fighter & we've seen him have trouble with guys vargas would have ate alive. I'm going with Vargas by mid rounds tko.
Vargas is battled tested against some of the best fighters all time. Canelo still hasn't been tested yet.
Canelo has skills, but it's still too early to tell what kind of fighter he will be.
this thread has been done a dozen times...a couple of weeks back too I believe
most pick vargas...I'd pick vargas...if u pick canelo u're an idiot, plain and simple
I'll sum it up for u: vargas was active in an era loaded with hall of famers (de la hoya, vargas, winky, mosley) and damn near fought all of them...had he fought in this era of boxing he'd easily be #1, he's a very underrated boxer and was a monstrous puncher with better skill than he gets credit for
all the guys that have beaten him (except for mayorga which was a bs fight at a bs weight) got all they could handle and on different days u could make a case for him beating them. he fought the best versions of odlh and trinidad and the first fight with mosley was pretty even until his eye started to swell grotesquely
BOOM!!! :fing02:
Fernando Vargas gets so underrated these days.
The Guy who beat Wright and Quartey (two guys eons better than any guy Canelo's beat) and the guy who went to war against Prime Tito and Oscar is gonna get beaten by Current Canelo?
Wake the fuk up.
Vargas body bags Canelo.
Now 5 years from now that version of Canelo will probably beat the best version of Vargas.. but to say CURRENT CANELO beat Vargas is utterly moronic.
I wouldn't be surprised if canelo has already peaked (I'm not saying he has though)...
he started at a very young age just like morales and barrera and they were both already declining in their late 20s
