Are you disappointed in Matthysse for being 163?
I remember Broner and Rios were criticized for coming in huge... and let's not forget the great JCC Jr.
Simple question, are you disappointed/mad at him for coming in 20+ pounds?

I wouldn't say disappointed in Matthysse because I look at it like it's a strategy. I wouldn't be disappointed in a fighter moving a lot to avoid a big hitter so I wouldn't be disappointed in a fighter cutting a lot of weight to have the power advantage the next night.
BUT it is interesting to know that he rehydrated that much weight, and I am wondering how heavy he he will be next fight
++ALSO this is in no way comparable to Chavez Jr. because Chavez is b1tch made...
I dont get this.
So rios did the same thing and it was bad cause he had trouble making the weight 2 times? chavez jr does the same thing and its bad cause he "looks" like skeltor at the weigh ins? but since lucas does it and looks fine then it okay, even though he does the same thing but just can do it better? lol
Matthysse didn't miss weight, looked fine at the weigh-in, has been performing well and has been improving too. But again, IDK what to make of it yet cuz it's supposedly the first time he's ever rehydrated this much. As for Chavez, my assumption is that he's out-grown MW and I think he'd become a better fighter if he would move up so he can actually focus on developing his skill-set. He looks drained at his weigh-ins and has habitually rehydrated 18-20lbs+ since Zbik. When I think Matt's performance is suffering due to him being weight-drained, then I'll have a problem with it.
As long as he made weight I don't see the problem, The problem is when guys come in overweight at the weight-in; then and only then should it be a Problem!
He looked no bigger than he normally does. Either it was a mistake via typo or he weighed in on fight night in full clothing.
+1, it doesn't make any sense.
Anyway I don't really have a significant issue with fighters coming in big, if they can make weight then them's the rules.
He didn't look that big but at the same time i do think boxing should have the weigh in same day as the fight eliminate all this stupid ballooning crap to gain some advantage sure they're 140, for one day.
If i guy can make weight fine on the day of the weigh in....i don't care what weight he comes in on fight night.
Matthysse didn't look drained on the weigh in, boxers like Chavez Jr look like zombies on weigh ins.
It could've been a tactical move...try to use size to over power Dallas movement.
He made weight so who cares?
Rios and Broner got criticized for NOT making weight, which is something Lucas did like a true professional. I don't care if he blew up to 180, the guy made weight and that's all that matters.
I still have my doubts, he might have weighed in with clothes/shoes and after eating a big meal or something.
wasn't a typo
David Greisman @fightingwords2
A Showtime spokesman confirms that Matthysse truly was 163.5 pounds tonight. Wow. Just wow.
Well, damn.
Guess Lucas got the better Amino 4500 then Jr.
I don't care what weight a fighter comes into the ring at, as long as they make the weight for the weigh-in. There are no laws or limits on rehydration AFAIK.
If he makes the weight limit of 140 I dont care if he weighs 300lbs in the ring. He hurts himself by cutting so much weight if it's not his ideal weigh in weight.
Its all about making the limit on the day of the weigh in, not what he re-hydrates to in the ring or after the fight. Thats irrelevant, unless it's stipulated in the contract
There are no double standards as JCC Jr has been caught using diuretics in the past and Rios and Broner have missed weight in the past.
Lucas has made the weight so no problem.
even if he did weigh in that much people won't complain
it's double standards......because people like him
He didn't.
Same as JCC Jr. didn't weigh 240 pounds after hitting a 6 foot bong the night of the Sergio Martinez fight.
It's double standards.:lol1:
Both would have had to gained the same amount of weight in one day as each other, as legend has it.
I couldn't see JCC Jr. do it.
And I can't see a Jr. Welter do it.
Nearly 25+ pounds? In one night?
He made weight. That's all that matters.
I agree to this entirely, unless he hasnt put on margarito handwraps while being unofficialy weighed then i dont see why we can lambast him for that. Besides this is obviously a typo with the 163 lbs. Hell the biggest welter that i ever saw was Ortiz against Money May and even then he weighed only one lb heavier than what youre suggesting Lucas weighed this fight.
Yet Lucas looked tiny compared to Dallas but outweighed him 13 pounds?
I watched the fight on Guru, and just about to a man, everybody said the same.
I just don't see it.
