Maybe he really feels today like he's going to retire, but this is just another impulsive decision of an alcoholic with a history of impulsive decisions. All the DUI's, drunk and disorderly, backing out of fights with "knuckle infections" for two years, backing out of the bute fight at the last minute, I could go on, serve as examples of the guys frame of mind. Boxing writers need not waste the time writing articles or interviewing him about his decision to retire. They're only going to be interviewing him about why he changed his mind some time in the next two years and how he's going to be back better than before. He just wants some time to be a fall down drunk without anyone pressuring or bothering him. Don't bother speculating what he's going to do next, that's it. He'll be back fighting when he needs more drinking money, even if its just at local non televised shows. We have not seen or heard the last of him. Pavlik can do whatever he wants, I'm not mad at him, obviously. I just don't want to be swamped with all these career obituary/ praise articles that are premature and unwarranted.

I made a post with something similar in mind, when I first read an article on the matter and Pavlik's quotes. I wasn't quite so harsh in my comments (lol), but I agree in essence with yours. Kelly's reasoning smacks of rationalization, like he's trying to convince himself and others that he means what he's saying. I can see him back sooner, rather than later.
Leave the man alone and let him live,we all make mistakes some more then others, none of us are in the position to judge another mans life.
I'm not judging they guy. He is what he is and isn't hurting anyone but himself. I'm not perfect either. I'm just not interested in reading a circle jerk over his career like its actually over on this or any other boxing website. It's a joke. And I sure as hell don't feel like him talking about his health like he just realized boxing is dangerous. It's only an excuse.

i never bought it for a second , he just wanted some attention , something he thought he was getting talking about "he's sick of people talking about him when the truth is he's been only relevant in his hometown...

I say your life sucks Larry. What you gonna do? Come at me bro!!
He would like to dump TR and I can't blaim him. He is not in Arum's agenda and not helping him at all.
Well to be honest he has himself to blame for that,He was on top of the world and let the Devil pull him down,we all go thru struggles in life and hopefully he is piecing himself back together,he is still young and has the chance to live a long healthy life

This. Ward would have devoured him. He can step away for 12 months and then start calling people out again.
He'll be back.
I've had a staph infection....a real bad one....and it took no more then two months to fully heal. I'm talkin heal to the point where you couldn't tell it wasn't on my hand anymore. Not sure what kind of treatment he was getting but I doubt his infection was worse then mine, honestly think the doctors he was seeing didn't treat him right if it bothered him for that long.
I had MRSA on my neck and it took two weeks to heal.... Everything Pavlik says is an excuse...classic alcoholism. Now he Doesn't want to box anymore cause he doesn't want to end up like Ali. BS. Ali was the way he is before Pavlik refer thought about putting on a pair of gloves... All crap.

Whenever they wave that big money fight at him (or hell, small money fight), he'll be back. He'll come back, beat a journeyman, get a Ward or Bute fight, get ktfo'd, retire, rinse and repeat.
