Cameron Dunkin, the Las Vegas-based manager of Nonito Donaire, said the Filipino-American will likely next fight in April, the exact date to be determined.
He'll tangle in California, Nevada or Texas. Guillermo Rigondeaux, a crafty Cuban, Vic Darchinyan and Chris John are in the running to meet the Filipino Flash, who is the favorite to win Fighter of the Year honors from the Boxing Writers Association for 2012. Rigo is the top dog thus far, Dunkin said.
All this talk about Rigo but what did Vazquez Jr do to earn his shot? What did Arce do to deserve his? Arce pussied out of a fight vs a prospect for christ sakes. :lol1:
The problem is people have the mindset that fighters need to "deserve a shot to face Donaire", like he's a $40 million PPV fighter. He's nowhere close. What was so special about WV2 or Jeff Mathebula?
He needs to enhance his legacy too. And he does that by cleaning out divisions. And fact of the matter is, he would not have cleaned out 122 if he doesn't fight Rigo and Mares.
I don't see how you can be a fan of a fighter and not want him to clean out the best fighters in every division he's in.
I think it was in the profile leading up to the WV2 fight where Rachel Donaire said (I'm paraphrasing here): "People think Nonito makes a million dollars per fight. He doesn't."
I agree, Donaire must fight all the champs in his division in order to cement his reputation. The notion that "Nonito would've crushed that can anyway" just doesn't cut it.

I dont want him to fight Vic, I want him to fight Mares. I just can't see how a fight between Vic and Rigo is acceptable, but only Rigo deserves Donaire and not Vic. I'd choose Vic-Rigo over either vs Donaire honestly.
Because I'm not analyzing both situations under the same lens. I would like for Rigo to get a couple fights against tough/durable opposition, and Vic fits the bill. I think Darchinyan gives many counter-punching opportunities and can get offensively irresponsible, so I'd side with Rigo in that fight. But it's still an acceptable match-up when you take Rigo's thin resume into consideration. Donaire has other options than Darchinyan right now, so that would amount to nothing more than him trying to pad his record. Vic should be a last resort for him.
A.K.A., you're saying that Vic deserves a title shot on the strength of his resume at lower weights. He doesn't have a better 122lb resume than Rigo, and he doesn't have a piece of the puzzle (a title) to bargain with. Nonito should know better than to fight Vic again. If Darchinyan beat Rigondeaux, then I'd be more willing to see Donaire/Darchinyan 2, but not anytime before that.
That's actually a fight that I've been wanting for a while now. I was hoping for that fight over Rigo vs. Poonsawat.
But Donaire vs. Darchinyan 2 is silly. There's nothing else to it.

Well there you have it. Vic Darchinyan beat the great Orlando Del Valle in the only fight in his career at 122. So let's bring on Donaire vs. Darchinyan 2. Can't wait to see Donaire add another knockout of the year on his resume.
no he doesn't...
what has vic done at 122...beat an overrated del valle?
vic has barely been effective at 118...every world class opponent he's faced has beaten him at that weight
oh yeah... he had a close fight with a green mares who had blood streaming down his face for almost 10 rounds
Vic is 0-1 at 122 with a win over an unproven prospect who took the fight too early. An unproven prospect is apparently better than Ricardo Cordoba. LOL.
No, I said Vic deserves the fight for fighting nothing but top fighters and proving his worth, thats how you get a shot at the best. I could care less what Donaire has said that doesnt mean I want to see the fight. Im a Darchnyan fan much more so than a Donaire fan, but Rigo is a nobody. You dont jump from fighting cans to fighting the best, you work your way to the top.
I like how you used the word "fighting" not "beating". So Mosley fought top fighters and proved his worth so he is worthy of another shot at Floyd Mayweather too I guess.
And Donaire jumped from fighting cans to fighting the best when he fought Darchinyan. Fighting the best is how you make a name for yourself in this sport and that is what Rigo is trying to do. And Vic hasn't done **** at 122.
Vic deserves the rematch more than Rigo deserves the fight, what has Rigo done?

Rigo deserves all the praise that comes with beating Rico Ramos, which happens to be very little. Ronny Rios-Donarie anyone? Yea, I thought not.
Rigondeaux's resume is weak. So he gets criticized for it.
So he tries to strengthen it by fighting Donaire. And in the process of trying to strengthen his resume, he gets criticized. LOL
But whatever. You still haven't addressed the main issue as to why this fight should happen and that is:
Donaire wants to be the undisputed champion at 122. Who does he have to beat in order to do that?
Rigondeaux and Mares. Nothing else needs to be said.

What relevance is that? If you want to demand Nonito fight someone it should be Mares. Rigo is nothing. If there is a fighter at your weight who present a legit challenge why push for a fight with a lesser fighter?
All the relevance in the world. You said Rigo is nothing and has done nothing. So I ask you again, who was Donaire or what had he done before the Darchinyan fight?

Having a belt doesn't make you a champion.
You just said Rigo hasn't earned a title shot. Now titles don't mean ****? LOL
But they sure do mean a lot to Donaire. He wants to become the undisputed champion at 122. What does he need to do that? Defeat all of the champions in the division. And Rigo is one of them.
Rigo hasnt beat ANYONE, at all. I'm really only interested in Mares for Donaire, but out of the 3 fighters listed Rigondeaux deserves it least.
So he doesn't deserve the opportunity to unify the division? And he's trying to fight someone. He's trying to fight the other guy in the division who has a belt. But people like you would rather see Donaire knock out Darchinyan, Arce and Montiel again instead of seeing a matchup between two of the top 3 fighters in the division.

Having a belt doesn't make you a champion. Hell, I'd put my money on Arce to beat Ramos and I think the Arce was a sh*t fight for Donaire. Rigo hasnt beat ANYONE, at all. I'm really only interested in Mares for Donaire, but out of the 3 fighters listed Rigondeaux deserves it least.
Who had Donaire beaten before fighting Darchinyan?

You mean after his last fight? After his manager finally had a talk with Donaire? Like "Look man you're looking bad on TV and around the internet, you can't keep saying that type of sh1t".

yes i meant that...the problem with you rigo fans is that you choose what nonito says that fits your agenda and forget the rest....thats actaully your whole basis as to why you think he's ducking ...im seriously starting to believe you guys dont even have common sense...
rigo is NOTHING right now , NOTHING...all you have is fantasy..real talk!
