Some posters, in another thread, interpret the cut(s) on Vitali's face the result of a 'lucky punch', and believe that he was 'dominating Lewis', and would have stopped him if the Dr. hadn't intervened.
How did you guys score the fight?
Personally, I only had Vitali up a round. Both were exhausted at the end of round 6 - it wouldn't have gone the distance.

An example:
Agreed.
Vitali beats any HW from any era.
FACTS about Vitali Klitschko:
- All Time Great and Hall Of Famer.
- There is no blueprint to beat him.
- He is unbeatable.
- He has dominated every opponent he has ever faced.
- Has never been behind on the scorecards at the end of a fight.
- Has a great chin, never been down.
- 39 KOs in 42 wins, greatest heavyweight champ KO% of all time.
- Only man ever to be world heavyweight champ in boxing and kickboxing.
- Vitali is almost 40 now, came back after a 4 year layoff and is still dominating the HW division. He hasn't lost a single round in his comeback.
Look at Vitalis eye.
How much more could he have taken?
He was a warrior and would have died in that ring to beat Lennox, but it wasn't his night.
Lennox would have stopped him in the next few rounds.
But Vitali would have won the rematch. Lennox knew it.
Dominate? NO! Could have won? YES!
It was a Old Lennox on the downside, why are some Vitali fans still holding on to that fight, LMFAO at that being the biggest achievement in his career I guess. :nonono:
The best VK probably but not conclusively beats LL, that's where the evidence points... FACT!
No it's not. The worst Lewis beat the best VK - those are the only facts we have.

Yeah, there's real strong evidence.

I thought he was doing great, certainly ahead. We'll never know what couldve been. However I think Vitali put fear into the heart of Lewis, he retired before ever giving him a rematch.
I don't think Lewis was scared, this is the same man that was brutally KTFO by Rahman and immediately wanted a rematch, same with McCall. Lewis was an old man and he knew it, just too lazy and old to get back to his old self. Lewis said **** it and retired.

Great fight!
I had Vitali 4-2 after 6. I think if they continued there was a big probability Vitali would suffer from the permanent eye damage.
Without cut I don't believe Lennox would be able to keep up with the tempo for all 12. His stamina looked very bad after 6. Vitali was exhausted too, but no so much as Lennox IMO. I think Vitali was playing on that card, but it turned out to be the bad tactics. As soon as he got cut he needed to go all offense no matter what.
Great fight. IMO it would always be a close fight between these two.
This really was a terrific fight, the last great heavyweight clash. Vitali whooped Lennox's ass the first two rounds, but it evened out the rest of the way. Both guys took some hellish punches.
^^^
This. Lewis looked awful early on, and Vitali was landing almost at will. That said, I felt Lewis was taking control before the stoppage and Vitali, aware of the damage Lewis had inflicted, looked spent going back to his stool at the end of R5/6.
In short: A GREAT FIGHT! :boxing:
Fact is Lewis took the fight on the cards.
All I can remember back in 2003 about Vitali was how he had choked against Byrd a couple of years earlier, so my expectations weren't sky high. Lewis, through hard work, skill, management, and timing had worked his way into becoming the "man" from around 1999-2003. So we were nearing the end of Lewis' salad years but the end wasn't in view yet.
Anyway, it came down to Vitali and his warrior heart and will that gave us something so rich to remember -an event full of drama, blood and guts. It really was one for the fans.
In my estimate, it's the last heavyweight fight worth remembering and debating, which is sad once you realize it took place back in June of 2003, over a decade ago...
Lewis won the fight. Vitali won the event!

it was a great fight. to say either guy dominated the other is just ridiculous. funny this topic never seems to die
