Its time for the man to retire permanently. While he can have 2-3 more fights and make a ton of money, I do not see any fights out there that are going to enhance his legacy any further. The one fight (Pacman) that made sense now seems to be completely dead. Do we really want to see all these legends succumbing to old age and getting knocked out brutally(Jones, Manny, Morlaes to name a few)?
Floyd is a 147lbs fighter, a weight he makes comfortably without cutting weight. His only two appearances above this weight he has weighed 150lbs and 151 lbs respectively. Just because people may deem that there is insufficient talent below 154lbs, does not mean he should jump to a 6th weight class.
While he has won both fights in the junior middleweight division in which he has competed in to date, his performances in both bouts were not his best indicating to me that he should revert to fighting at welterweight.
If a fight with Martinez was made, it would be at 154lbs. If Floyd was to win that bout, the usual critics will suggest Martinez was weight drained (which may valid), and therefore gets no credit for it.
There are weight divisions in boxing for a reason. Having said the above I have no desire for a Mayweather v Marquez 2 as the fight was so one sided the first time I cannot see any other outcome the second time round.
While I will watch Mayweather v Guerrero, I have no real interest in the bout. If Guerrero wins it will not be because of his supernatural ability, but that Floyds skills have declined, just like any fighters does once they begin to get closer to 40. If Floyd wins, the haters will say it was because Guerrero was coming up in weight.
In summary, although I still think they are amongst the worlds best and still have alot to offer, maybe boxing would be better off if both Manny and Floyd retired. It might give the likes of Brandon Rios, Gamboa, Alvarez, Andre Ward to cement themselves as the new faces of boxing and their are so many interesting bouts out there for all of these guys.
BTW I only post in this forum once or twice a year but I felt compelled to do so :)
could you lay your agenda down any clearer? nobody is asking him to fight heavies, only the best challengers at 154, where he's #1 ranked. i'd hope Floyd has more pride in his champ status than you think, you already got the excuses ready.
but he is ranked #1 at 147 so he he fight some one at that weight he ducking guys at 54
wait isn't floyd rank 1 at 154? Doesn't he hold belts at 154??
Doesn't he fight at 154? What's wrong with 154 fighters calling him out again?
Why is floyd so small according to his fans all of a sudden?
same reason pac was to small to fight cotto at 154 last year and when he won a belt at 154
he hold a belt at 154 and the only fighters people are asking for are at 154 so where you get 160 from? Martinez fight will be at 154, canelo at 154, if he didnt want to fight 154 he shouldent have got the belt for play. Time to step up.
so pac can fight at 154 because he had a belt there too
Jr. is a world champion at 154lbs, that weight is already a catchweight for Martinez. It's a perfect meeting point. Trout can't do a catchweight.
Does it even matter what I reply? Floyd fans will make excuse after excuse to the point where they argue it so that the only opponent Mayweather can fight is Robert Guerrero, the blown up LW who is only two fights deep at 147 and who will obviously lose in an uncompetitive fight.
They don't want to see him in a genuinely competitive fight, they only care about him winning because they're not boxing fans, they're cheerleaders. Whatever, take your red bars and sit on his jock idgaf, there are other fights in this sport.
You didnt answer the question. You just danced around it....and I was watching boxing long before Floyd was on the pro scene. He just happens to be one of my favourite active fighters. Didnt relaise that was a crime.
Just out of interest, why should Floyd fight all these guys above his best weight of 147lbs where he is a world champion and ranked number 1 in the world, but should give catchweights to Matthysse and Marquez? Hypocrite?

again...He only fights at 154 when the opponent is past prime and shot! And holding a meaningless title belt despite how the got it!
He only fights at 147 when his opponents are moving up from LW or LWW!
Other than that he retires or goes to jail to avoid all the high risks!
I will not get sucked into a petty slagging match about Floyd v Pac. But I will state the following which you might come back to me on with some logical answers if you are capable of producing them, not just impartial dribble.
As an earlier poster said: Floyd fought Oscar a year before Pac and at Oscar's natural weightclass of 154lbs: Pac fought him a year later at 147lbs? Why is this acceptable?
Why should Floyd fight Marquez at 140lbs when Pac fought him at 147lbs in their last fight?
Floyd fought Cotto at 154lbs where Cotto was champion. Pac fought him at a cathcweight of 145lbs? Why is this acceptable?
And for the record i am not a Pac hater: He is a future HOF'er but in my opinion Floyd is a better fighter.
I look foward to your responses!!
-fights an extremely shot Cotto "he da GOAT, Money May #1"
-Canelo, Trout and other prime 154 fighters are possible opponents "Nah he to small u a hater, Floyd aint never gonna get no credit. U haters wanna see him lose!"
not only is Floyd ducking/cherry picking but now his Fans are ducking/cherry picking for him
You have a picture of a cheating scumbag as your av: says it all really about your love of the sport.
Let him retire then. He won't fight the best at 140, 147 or 154.
Martinez - Flomos say he's too big
Trout - Flomos say he's too big
Pacquiao - "my health comes first"
Marquez - Flomos say he can't make catchweight
Matthysse - Flomos say can't make catchweight
Instead, boxing gets a another blown up opponent with a light record at WW, great.

Martinez - "Floyd cherry picked a 40 year old man, weight drained him, and waited for him to break his knee"
Trout - Has never called out Floyd/wants Canelo
Pacquiao - zZz
Marquez - Everyone knows what will happen again
Matthysse - You are a retard
Instead, boxing gets a another blown up opponent with a light record at WW, great.

only fought at 154 twice, Cotto and ODLH; now Cotto, I could slightly agree he is on the decline, shot not so much. ODLH was not hardly past his prime or shot, and if he was what does it say about your boy's win. He fought him at a catch weight and almost a year after, and wanted no part of Cotto at 154. He happens to hold the golden ticket along with Pac, that they can choose whom they want to fight at their preference.
Hatton and JMM did move up, but the $$$ dictated that just like all the guys that accepted the catchweight fights with PAC.
This is another thread confirming the strongly held and widely held opinion Floyd is a cherry picker.
He didnt perform that well at 154 so should stay at 147? I dont understand this way of thinking. Its like saying dont take any risks floyd if you want to keep your zero.
Im sure JMM fights better around 135 or 140 than 147, but its a case of challenging yourself and going places that are risky and out of your comfort zone, not staying in your comfort zone like Floyd has done all his career just about.
Floyd dont fight much, so its even more important he takes risky fights and serious challenges everytime he gets in the ring, rather than fight Pacs leftovers, but at 154, as if 154 is supposed to erase all critism for Floyd. Fighting Pacs leftovers but at 154?
Floyd lost out on FOTD with his do just as much as he can possibly get away with attitude, dont he and his fans learn>
If you look at it with a neutral position instead of pro-pac, you would notice 154 is not a good look for him, 147 and below is his best weight. I agree that the 0 is VERY important to Mayweather, and he happens to be in a position to fight who and whenever he wants, so we all can complain til hell freezes over. I personally will not pay for either Pac or May's ppv's after the fight could not be made. I am curious as to who you think are the cherry-picked fights were, and the only two people that Pac fought 1st were Cotto and JMM.

Where was Cotto ranked when he fought him?
Where is RG ranked at WW now and whats wrong with Floyd fighting him at 147 pounds?
You can sit there all you want to push your agenda but you know damn well hes not a real JMW.
If you want full credit for being 2x champ, and in the position to fight for the Ring belt vs a guy whose best win is Ryan Rhodes, you should assume some responsibilities that come with the role.
he's not a jmw....but he fights at jmw.... :dunno:
he might be right though, i guess he only fights at JMW when it's a guy like cotto, who is past prime, post pacquiao/margarito beatdown and went to war with "Ricardo Mayorga"

So true, when haters hate you they don't care about the weight. Haters wouldn't care if Floyd a heavyweight so long as he gets beat down. That's why we need to ignore them & continue to remind them of how Marquez knocked pacroid the hell out. Hahahahahahahahahaha, pacroid laid out like a bum on the corner. Hell he is a bum that's why he was ktfo.....

It doesn't matter who he fights cause there will always be a group who hates the matchup, who will make excuses if he wins, and will always have something negative to say. If he beats boxer A, he wont get respect cause boxer A will all the sudden becone a joke and hes now ducking boxer B. Hes the villian.
And soon Broner will take that role.
