What it seems to me now is that the production is beginning to out-shine the emcee/rapper, which should never happen. It's supposed to accompany, but never over-power. I just heard a track from Fat Joe's "Darkside 2" mixtape called "So Fly", fell in love with the instrumental, but couldn't give a fuck what he was rapping about.
Yea. Most guys making beats now really work hard to perfect their stuff. However, after the over-saturation in hip hop 10 years ago, the bar got set real low for rappers. Most now are entitled and don't bother to hone their craft. It's become a matter of attitude over quality. A lot of my friends in the biz don't take rappers in their studio anymore because they don't want the headache of trying to make these kids sound listenable. The few I've worked with that actually had the skills, ended up pissing it away once they started living the "lifestyle."
i honestly havent checked that out yet, butive heard from multiple sources that its heat....
Joey Badass and Logic are two of the best up and coming emcee's in my book.
Which I don't like and is why I listen to the underground. Mainstream stuff is dumbed down on purpose, you're absolutely right about that. Creative control can also be severely limited.

you only get to pick one.
If you pick music, you cant watch boxing anymore
If you pick boxing, you cant listen to music anymore
Music and its not even close! I love boxing but I can live without it. I can't live without music!
Boxing for me. If I'm not training in it then I'm watching fights or trying to pick up some tricks on YouTube.
I enjoy music too but if I had to make a choice that would be it.
You ever heard that song.....DAT'S DAT S**T I DON'T LIKE!!!!!!
He's whack as f**k.
I haven't been keeping up on Rap music for a while now, but that beat sounds so much like something Rick Ross would use. That instrumental is mind-numbing. Never mind the lyrics.
What's sad is that he's 17. At least Soulja Boy was coming out with dance tracks when he was 17/18. Why is he signed to a major record deal??
never in my life was I listening to mainstream rap, so nothing has changed for me. Well, I guess technically when I was like 7-8 years old I was listening to Beastie Boys, Ice-T, dmc, to nwa, etc. and then later with Pac & the early Bone, but all through my years it was the underground. Just off the top of my head X-Raided, Lynch, Hollow Tip, Gangsta Dre, DJ Quick, Gangsta Nip, K-Rino, Esham, Andre Nickatina, Zion I, The Coup, Dead Prez, Capital D, etc etc etc. I never really cared for mainstream.
Brotha Lynch and Esham, that's some dope s**t. Were you ever into Tech??? You might like Hopsin and Dizzy Wright as well.
You clearly have strong feelings on Chief Keef. Explain what he's like, cuz I haven't heard his music and I don't want to waste my time if he ain't shit.

i understand where youre coming from, but things are getting more simplistic in rap.. my top 2 all time are pac and nas, but given the state of hip hop you can either be with it or not, its just the phase....im all for the commons, mos defs talibs and all bust some people arent an never will be on that level from an overall standpoint...i would still tak todays music because its part of my life....
i only know a couple of thorough boxing fans anyway, so that would be lonely
There's still good emcee's today though.
Em, Nas, and Royce are still around. Kendrick, J Cole, Joey Badass, Logic, Big Krit, Yelawolf, Macklemore, etc. And s**t, I still bump Tech N9ne.
It's just the whack emcee's are worse than ever. Wayne, Chief Keef, Future, Kid Ink, French Montana, Meek Mill, Ross, etc.
Yeah Big Krit and Yela can spit too. There's some good young talent coming up, I just hope they get support.
I just can't imagine the days that Eminem and Nas aren't around anymore, and it's going to happen in the near future. We need some young cats that actually rap and can spit.
For every Kendrick, J Cole, Logic, etc....there's like 10 Chief Keef's, Meek Mills, and other whack emcee's like that.
I just thank god that whack ass Chief Keef clown didn't sell well....

yeah I know as of real late there is some promise, I know Joey Badass this song is ill, RIP Steez

I hardly listen to music anymore, so you can keep that *****. When I was young music was my like my life! But as you get older it becomes less and less important. Skinny jean wearing homo's taking over the game anyways.
You need to check out Kendrick, J Cole, Logic, Joey Badass, Dizzy Wright, Macklemore, etc. Some good young guys coming into the game. Hopefully it's a sign of things to come.
If I go 2-3 days without music, I go crazy.
I can wait for 2-3 months to watch a worthy fight. The amount of quality good match ups is minimal, and I have gotten so used to this that I have adapted myself to waiting for a long time before watching a real good quality fight between two good fighters.
I need to listen to music. While one person needs a cigarette to calm there nerves or ease their stress, I use music. I also work out multiple times a week and have to listen to my iPod or else I feel something's missing.
Now if you ask me something like Boxing vs Movies, or Boxing vs Gaming, I say boxing hands down.
