Caribe Promotions: Rigondeaux will fight Donaire in March or anytime, even in China
Boxing article posted on January 5th, 2013 | Post Comment
nonito donaire guillermo rigondeaux By Dan Ambrose: Caribe Promotions, the co-promoters for WBA World super bantamweight champion Guillermo Rigondeaux (11-0, 8 KO’s), says that they are ready to match Rigondeaux against WBO super bantamweight champion Nonito Donaire in March or whatever month that Donaire wants the fight. They’re not saying no to any month; they just want the fight with Donaire.
Caribe Promotions said on their twitter “Nonito talks a lot, and talks a lot about Rigondeaux. Rigondeux asks ‘when is Nonito ready to fight? Nonito, talk, talk, talk. Nonito vs. Rigondeux in March. Nonito didn’t confirm. And now he’s talking. Rigondeaux is ready. Nonito wants to fight in China. I confirm that Rigondeaux is ready, and we are ready for China.”
That sure sounds like they’re ready to match Rigondeaux with Donaire. The question now is whether Donaire himself or his promoter Bob Arum is willing to face Rigondeaux? Donaire has had plenty of chances in the past, but he instead has chosen older fighters that are past their prime like Toshiaki Nishioka and Jorge Arce. Donaire even said that he thought Nishioka was the best super bantamweight fighter in the entire division. It didn’t look like that.
Donaire choosing the 36-year-old Nishioka instead of Rigondeaux, and then saying how Nishioka is the best in the division, has given some boxing fans the impression that Donaire is dodging the fight with Rigondeaux.
From the way Caribe Promotions is talking it doesn’t seem like a problem for them to agree to any date or location that Donaire wants. From the sounds of they’re willing to fight him no matter what month he chooses or location. If they’re willing to travel to China to fight Donaire then that suggests that they’ll face anywhere. These guys really want the fight.
It’s going to look bad if Donaire chooses not to fight Rigondeaux next and instead faces one of his beatable contenders. Donaire wants to fight WBC super bantamweight champion Aber Mares, but that fight doesn’t look like it’s doable for the time being due to the fighters working for different promotional companies. With that fight not available, the next best fight for Donaire is Rigondeaux and I don’t understand why he wouldn’t take that fight if Rigondeaux is willing to fight anytime and anywhere he wants.
Why are you yelling?
Larged caps used only for certains words is not yelling, its picking out a central point. Here is an example:
"Does anyone actually BELIEVE that you can jump off the side of a cliff and NOT die!"
That is stressing points. This is yelling:
"DOES ANYONE ACTUALLY BELIEVE THAT YOU CAN JUMP OFF A CLIFF AND NOT DIE!!!!!!!"
Here is the deal, if ANY boxer was leary of a fighter and they told the promoter they were, the Promoter would be able to A) Put them on the shelf, A) Go over the finer details of the contract that the Fighter signed or C) dissolve the contract. But that is not the case. The fact is, Donaire does not or at least not till recently believe Rigo had become marketable. THAT is his opinion! Nothing more, nothing less! It doesn't influence who the Promoter choses! But there is an upside to what Donaire is saying....he can also mean that he believes with a couple more fights, Rigo would be a bigger name and more money could be made. That would be a compliement! Why do you think Rigo was supposed to be on the undercard of the Donaire fight???!!
I have seen fights buildup to become better but even Arum knows they can also fall apart like Gamboa vs JuanMa when JuanMa lost. So anything can happen. Donaire has already indicated that he is ready to fight Rigo THIS YEAR. All Donaire has is an opinion about a fighter, he DOES NOT have the final say. WHO IS PUTTING UP ALL THE MONEY????? Arum is!! NONE of these Boxers at the higher levels are promiting themselves because they DON'T have the money....no way do they have the money because they would not even know what to project and what the profit or loss could be, or the know-how so they enter into a contract with a Promoter who puts THIER OWN money up so that they can say who a fighter will fight next, when and where, periood! Promoters are looking at the money figures, the revenue, the site, the nuances of promotional aspects - and the fighter BY CONTRACT has to agree! THAT is why you hear SO MANY FIGHTERS say that "I will fight who they put in front of me" - because THEY ARE NOT THE ONES MAKING THE CHOICE!!!!! Otherwise a Promoter could say "You want to pick your opponent, fine, then you PUT THE MONEY UP!!". Watch how fast a fighter changes his mind!
ONLY a superstar like Pac will be givin a list of opponents and even within that list, the Promoter, Arum in this case will present figures and will PUSH who the opponent is and even that little say so by Pac is overruled by Arum because it is in the contract!!! Anyone other than a Pac or Floyd is going to have to submit to the opponent that the Promoter has chosen. Even a fighter's manager often doesn't know who the fighter will be fighting....I have found this out first hand when asking and it turned out the manager was waiting to hear from the Promoter who the opponent would be. The Promoter sits down with the fighter, goes over opponents, shedules, sites, and money. If the fighter is not compliant with the choice, the Promoter can enforce his legal right because it is HIS money that is being put up. Go yell at Arum, or Shaw, or King, but not the fighter. You can hate a fighter's opinion but he is not making the executive decisions.
1. I think I indicated the bold in my previous post and didn't imply anything to the contrary.
2. Everything you just wrote is essentially understood by me and has already been covered, as also indicated in my previous post.
3. Why are you yelling?
then donaire should keep his ****ing mouth...shut about who he wants or will fight until arum gives him all the details then right? Or is he too a puppet?Donaire is allowed an opinion like anyone! He is allowed to talk about his perspective to the media all he wants but he is not allowed to negotiate a fight or pick an opponent, with or without the Promoter present. I don't like all of what Donaire has ever said but I know he does not have executive power of choice. He is NOT the one putting the money up for a site and handling the business side. People need to separate this from their bias against a fighter like Donaire or bias towards a fighter like Rigo becuse who the fighter fights is NOT his choice.
I've read his posts and don't claim to know any more about the business than he does, but I'm skeptical about certain assertions. I believe that Donaire is in a position to offer preferences. No, he doesn't have anywhere near the clout of the stars you mentioned, but he does have some say. Some evidence for this are the comments he's been making about Rigo for over a year now.
Why would Nonito say the things he's been saying if he doesn't have some input? Are you claiming he's a that much of a shit-talker? He could've just done what JuanMa did for a while when asked about a Gamboa fight: "Boxing is a business. My promoter makes all the decisions." Instead, Donaire has shot Guillermo down at every turn. So, either Nonito has some say in whom he fights, or he's just a shit-talking loudmouth who pulls the chain of all boxing fans in general and his fans in particular. I don't have high regard for Donaire anymore, but I'm not ready to accept he's that bad.

Are some of you still that fuking ignorant and bias to not know how boxing business works?????? A top Florida Promoter ALREADY explained the business. First off, Donaire does not pick his opponents. It is in his contract that the promoter choses the opponent, the site, and other details!! COMMON SENSE! Why you might ask? Because THE FIGHTER DOES NOT PUT THE MONEY UP, his PROMOTER DOES! What part of that DONT you understand???? Donaire doesnt OFFER a fighter a shot, his promoter does. Donaire doesn't pick his opponent, his PROMOTER DOES!!! Complaint to Arum, and even blame Rigo because HE renewed his contract with Top Rank in December!!! ONLY fighters like Vitali and Pac have a PARTIAL choice and ONLY Mayweather has a complete choice in who he fights! The rest of the Boxers do not. It is IN the CONTRACT! GET IT?? GOT IT?? GOOD! The only DUCKS are the QUACKS on here who don't know the contractual obligations of a fighter to a promoter and vice versa and speak from complete bias and ignorance! GET A FUKING CLUE!!

Lol Just realized my last message read " I been wanting rigo to fight Donairetards " lol meant to say Donaire my ipad had donairetards on auto spell must've been using that phrase a lot lately.
lmao I knew what you meant, but wondered what might've caused the "brain fart". Damn auto-correct. :lol1:
I agree on one point and disagree on another. One: You may find this hard to believe, but I'm not sold on the idea Rigo beats Donaire...at least not right now. Two: You're right. Life ain't fair and Guillermo probably has to grab his chance, ready or not. As the old saying goes, "Opportunity knocks but once...."

you did contradict yourself unintenionally , maybe..but you did...so what has changed? and no.. i dont think you wrote them nonito excuses or maybe you did but just did'nt think they were excuses , pls remind me again..
Go back a few posts. I listed at least three excuses that Donaire has been quoted on this very website as saying at various times. Rigo has no fan-base; Rigo is too boring; Rigo needs to earn it. What...has...changed? Why the urgency to fight now?
nonito says yes to march ..rigo says yes to march ...yet soembody in rigo's team said they want one more fight before nonito..hell, cubannyc is saying he wants one more fight before nonito ..who am i suppose to believe, when there's 2 guys in team rigo contradicting themselves......
I simply gave you my take on it. I don't know what the hell is coming from the Rigo camp. Too many rumors and hearsay. My guess is that Guillermo wants it. His handlers probably feel the way I do. Just my opinion.
I'm not contradicting myself, but Nonito certainly is. He's been making excuses; I listed them. Now everything he complained about before has changed and he wants to fight Rigo? Again I ask, What has changed?
I've said on many occasions that I believe Donaire beats Rigo at the current time. Guillermo is still finding his pro footing, in my opinion. I'm sure he thinks he's ready. He's a born champion. But the reality is, he's asked to take on one of the top P4P boxers in the world. Anyone and everyone has to bring their "A-game". Surely Rigo deserves to go into the fight with some decent preparation. Nonito just fought, so of course March is okay with him. He's still sharp. Could it be that Donaire's just looking for an unfair edge? Hmmm?

Look how this guy is trying to turn this on Rigo...
Rigo already said yes to testing, yes to March and yes to China. What's Donaire gonna come up with next? Bare fists? I'd definitely put my money on Rigo then. Donaire seems like a pretty boy who's never been in a street fight before.
Dude, honestly... You know my stance on this. You've read my posts and we've exchanged opinions on this subject. I was cool with Donaire before, but I'm finally getting turned off to him. This thing has definitely reached stupidity levels. Either allow Rigo a tune-up or stick to your damn excuses and wait 'til he's ready to retire like Nishioka and Arce to fight him. Motherfucker....

wow , 6 months , really?..thats like sugar ray leoanrd returning to fight marvin hagler right there, lol.. come on man
what's fair is team rigo come out and say if they are ready or not for march, no playing games...
you say it aint fair for rigo to take nonito on on march yet you claim nonito has nothing but excuses to not fight rigo for the last year or so..i dunno but thats sounds to me like a major contradiction ....

I've been wanting rigo to fight Donairetards for some time now as I truly believe he beats him. I knew poon testing positive for hiv was a major setback and prob meant that rigo would miss his chance. It sucks but if rigo is bieng offered march he needs to take it, Donaire clearly doesn't want this fight and all he needs to say is " I offered rigo the fight in January and he declined" and he wouldn't necessarily wrong .... Life isn't fair this is rigo shot there won't be many if any left.

If Donaire and Rigo fought in March, that would make six months of inactivity for Guillermo. Do you honestly think that's fair? Why is it so urgent that they make the fight then and not give Rigondeaux one damn tune-up? Nonito had nothing but excuses for this fight for over a year: Rigo has no fan-base; he's too boring; he has to prove himself, etc. What changed in so short a time? Tell me, please. Was there a mass exodus from Cuba I didn't hear about? Has Rigo changed his style? What world-beater did Guillermo fight in the last few months that all of a sudden made him "worthy"? Now it's, "Hurry up and let's get this over with?" Fuck Nonito and the horse he rode in on.
