With ward injured, what can froch do if anything achieve this stature. I noticed alot of you guys didnt even mention him as one of the best britsh fighters ever...
As everyone has said nothing but the upmost respect for Froch. No, simply because he has never been the best in his division, utterly outclassed by Ward, and never was a dominate Champ. He will not rank higher than Lennox, Hatton, or Calzaghe. That's just the truth
He will never surpass Lennox Lewis, but If Froch Beats Kessler in a rematch and moves up to 175 and beats Dawson, he would definitely secure himself in history as a British legend and of one of their greatest fighters ever. He has already surpassed Calslappy in my opinion, and beating Kessler and Dawson would just be the icing on the cake.
I like Carl and respect him a great deal, but the thing holding him back here is that he's quite possibly the single worst fighter to ever step inside of a ring. And the fact that he's such an unpleasant, odious beast outside the ring doesn't help matters.
Gotta give him credit for actually conducting himself as a professional athlete, constantly seeking out the best in his division and, through hard work and dedication, working way up to a world class level and achieving considerable success. And through it all,has remained a humble, grounded, loving family man that stands as a shining example to all of today's youth.
Great guy and a heck of a fighter.
I'm intrigued by how you define odious. As in detestable? I personally don't see it. Froch doesn't talk that much smack; he usually gives credit and respect to his opponents in the pre-fight formalities.
You completely contradict yourself. How can a 'humble, grounded, loving family man' be odious? Back to school for you, I think.

Beat Kessler for starters, then after beating Bute again which is part of a rematch clause that Froch has no control over at this point, beat Andre Ward. At this point, he'd be considered as a top 3 SMW of all time. After he does this, go up to 175 and beat Chad Dawson if he's still Ring champion there, followed by Bernard Hopkins if he beats Cloud and is still "Bernard Hopkins".
If he beats these 4 guys, I don't see how he can't make a case of being the greatest British fighter ever. But I think beating Ward, Dawson or Hopkins is a long shot.
I would still love to see Dirrell vs Froch II.
beat kessler and ward lol...and if he cant secure a rematch with ward... beat dawson at 175 and hed be better than calzaghe in my book... i dont think he beats ward...

Froch is no way near the best British fighter not even close
Whos he a actually beaten to make that claim ? Pascal , bute , abraham,Dirrel and washed up Taylor and Johnson
F.uck off. Hardly bums were they?
Pascal went on to win the light heavyweight title against Chad Dawson, Abraham has picked up another strap, Johnson was on the back of knocking out Allan Green, Dirrell was a rated undefeated fighter who went on to school undefeated Abraham, Bute was undefeated and recognised as at least the second best in the division with debate going on that he'd bet Ward. Add to that Froch travelled to Denmark and gave Kessler hell, he travelled to the states to fight Ward. Add to that decent wins against Magee (who was an interim belt holder until recently) and Mack.
The best Brotish boxer of all time? No. The best British super middleweight head to head? Probably not. The best British super middleweight based on resume and achievement? Not even up for dispute. His resume is solid, very solid.
Yes, it's possible; but he'd have to beat Kessler and Ward in rematches, and probably beat some of the up-coming SMW fighters, such as Groves and DeGale.
I have Kessler higher than Froch on the Super-middleweight all time list, what do you think?
Yeah I'd agree, just, due to Kessler's win over Froch. If Froch wins the rematch, I'd rate him above Kessler.
What's your list?
Quite aside from all those he managed to avoid, Roy Jones is proven drug cheat whose career is tainted. If he's the greatest SMW then Marion Jones is the greatest 200m runner and Lance Armstrong the greatest cyclist etc.
Just on Froch, I wonder what he could have become if he had managed to secure big fights earlier in his career. He only started taking on the big names when he was 32+.
Yeah the steroids is a black mark against Jones, but I'm just going off what I've seen on film, and that Jones to me is the most spectacular fighter to ever compete at 168.
As for Froch? Yeah he looked quicker in his younger days, and had a better work rate in his 20's, I remember when he beat Adamu and Dodson, he looked a sharper fighter. I thought Carl was way past his best after the Ward fight, he looked reborn against Bute, he has aged well considering the wars he's been through
Yeah I don't rate his wins over Taylor, Johnson and Abraham all that much. It's the wins over Pascal and Bute that impress me, add Kessler to that, and Ward and Froch will go into the Hall of Fame. The greatest SMW is Roy Jones, then Calzaghe and Ward depending on who you rate higher as number 2. If Froch beat Ward, I'd make him number 2 as Ward is a great fighter in my opinion.
As for all time? The greatest British fighter has to be the legendary Bob Fitzsimmons, but Froch has to be knocking on the door of greatness if he wins the fights we've mentioned

is it possible for you to dig your own country boxing history ?

Even if did beat Ward, he wouldn't be #1 - but I won't entertain that idea as Dan said because it'll never happen. Froch is currently the #3 SMW. If he beats Kessler I'd probably put him ahead of Calzaghe, if he stepped up to 175 and picked up a title as well then he's definitely ahead.
Froch's resume isn't as great as what some people think. I think the notion that he's had the toughest run of fights in boxing is somehow being translated into a great resume, this isn't the case. I won't comment on where he ranks with the likes of Benn, Eubank & Calzaghe as I'd need to have a deeper look.

i wouldn't give hiim much extra cred on another bute win. what's he done, really?
kessler would be a nice win. a decisive win would also give strength to his performance in the first fight, which was frankly a pick em type of decision.
the real test for froch, imo, is a fight with ward. you want to be a great boxer from a great boxing country? you gotta beat the top guy in your division. then there is 175. froch has crazy long arms. solid bas on him, too. he can make for a solid LHW, imo. there aren't great names there, but it would give strength to wins over top 10 type guys if they're at 175.
i think froch is planning an exit strategy. he's a bright guy. i've heard that he's made some nice real estate moves, and owns rental properties.
two or three more fights for froch are what i think we're likely to see him take. kessler, maybe bute because of that contractual BS. they want the kessler fight on neutral ground or in the UK, and that sounds like a hill they're willing to die on.
agree with your point in bold. alot of ppl make the win over bute out to be something its not. don't get me wrong a KO of another beltholder is not to be smirked at but bute is not in the same leagues as fighters like kessler, ward or martinez
imo for forch to be considerd the greatest british fighter ever he needs to beat kessler and ward and then go up to LHW and maybe get himself another belt.
froch has some good wins but hes lost to the two HOF'ers hes faced and that doesn't look too good in the cold light of day.
