Not sure if this has been made yet. Who do you think would win if the match up were to be made between Takashi Uchiyama vs Yuri Gamboa?
It's a fight I'd love to see, I like both guys but I would probably slightly favour Uchiyama to beat Gamboa, even though I'd guess Gamboa would be the betting favourite, I just feel Gamboa's whoskers have been shaken so many times at lower weights and Uchiyama has bad intent in every punch he throws that I'd favour him to KO Gamboa.
What you think?
Looks like a lot of people have either a higher regard for Uchiyama than I thought, or a lower regard for Gamboa than I believed. The poll is tighter at this point than I would've imagined.
Gamboa outboxing Uchiyama handily til he gets caught by the straight right or left hook and makes his punchers chance come good.Yuri is an incredible talent but for me his jaw is too much off a liability at this stage
I voted "Gamboa by KO," but I really know little about Uchiyama. I've seen some clips and know his record and reputation, but I don't feel qualified to argue the case. I do believe, however, that Yuri is talented enough to own 130. I don't see Gamboa running into real problems (no pun intended) until he steps up to 135. I have a feeling Yuri is making a pit-stop on his way to the lightweight division.
Another common opponent is Michael Farenas who I fancied to beat Uchiyama and was doing very well until the headbutt which caused a halt to the fight.
I think Uchiyama beats Farenas convincingly if they ever fight again.
Anyways, Uchiyama will not be an easy fight for Gamboa. He has the skill and power to KO him.
There's always that possibility, Gamboa has that much skill... But he always has difficulty with pressure fighters, not so much in losing rounds or anything, but getting caught by them. If Gamboa gets caught by Uchiyama, it could potentially be a game changer! But then again Yuri could land big as well so who knows...
He has power, I think he'd maybe have a punchers chance but that is about all I could give him myself.
I just can't see him coping with Gamboa's handspeed, his combinations, footwork, angles, lateral movement he looked to me like he really wasn't coping well with Farenas though Farenas is a southpaw. He appeared to me to be frustrated he was being repeatably being hit with the left and I think he may well of had a lucky escape that night.
Common fight between these two is against Jorge Solis. Both guys dominated Solis only Gamboa ended it a lot earlier.
I got Uchiyama by KO in 10.

Gamboa toys with him, easy work.

Uchiyama has absolutely nothing but power, he wouldn't be able to set himself against Gamboa.
Horrible slow feet, upright style, bad defense, questionable chin himself.
He has nothing, its no 50/50 fight. Gamboa destroys him.
Very good fight and if Gamboa doesn't come with his A game, he could get stopped. Uchiyama is no joke and if he gets caught like Farenas caught him, he might stay down. I do think Gamboa comes in though in top shape and stops him late in outstanding fight.
