He doesn't charge in, he just keeps his chin tucked like you're SUPPOSED to do when throwing straight punches. Stupid fighters like Amir Khan who throw punches with their chin hanging out, get KTFO. Ward doesn't. It's a fundamental mistake to do otherwise.
He's extremely adept at taking away his opponent's strength and like Froch said, he's either too close or too far away, great at controlling distance. Never gets himself off balance and very difficult to counter. He isn't going to lose for a long time.
First of all, Im totally biased because Ward is my favorite fighter since a long time. The first time I saw him I thought well this is the future p4p champ.
I like him cause to me he is the most complete fighter in the game. Yes, even more than Floyd. Floyd can't rough and bully an opponent, Ward can. Depending on the fighter he's fighting Ward can switch from inside to outside fighting, agressive fighting to counterpunching and be patient. He has a good right hand, good jab, good left hook and underrated body work. Some people find him boring but for people how love the subtilities of the sport he's amazing to watch.
To answer the thread, yes Ward is sometimes "charging", but it's not in a retarded way, he evaluates the right time to get inside and pick his shot. A young Hopkins was good at that too, putting pressure and coming close to you while breaking you mentally, I don't think it's "dangerous" as long as you have a fighter who keeps thinking and evaluate when it's the best time to get in.
Seems like Ward is a popular guy, plenty of people are picking up his particular style of fighting.

Ward (seemingly) patterned his style after Bernard Hopkins, arguably one of the greatest defensive fighters of his generation. Everything is set up with footwork. Ward fights more aggressively than Hopkins did so he'll incur greater risk at times but for the most part he's exceedingly well protected.
anyone else think his charging in will get him caught one day or he does it at the perfect times?
Everyone get caught just ask Pacquiao, But I think people fear head butts from him and Bradley. So far they have been lucky they haven't met a hammer fist or a great counter puncher
Andre Ward does not have 1 specific style. He's probably the most versatile fighter in the sport. Text book, knows how to fight at distance, inside, rough, patient, this dude is just amazing to watch. Considering he isn't that fast, or that powerful. Just a student of the game. Excellent, well rounded fighter.
Hey, he's dominating the crap out of everybody so it's obviously working for him.
But I do agree a bit, I see openings where he can be timed/caught, but keep in mind, this is me observing this while sitting on my fat yank ass watching him fight. I've heard fighters say he has a very deceptive style, and they get shocked how different it's being in there with him than watching him. So as Floyd says, it looks different from the outside and it's very different when you're actually in there.
