I was at work yesterday and in the break room one of my coworkers started talking about the Pacquiao knockout loss to JMM etc. Well eventually as usual the discussion shifted to Mayweather and how he hasn't fought anyone his whole career and that's why he is undefeated. He stated that Floyd should fight Marquez since Marquez just beat Pacquiao. That's when I said that yes I would be glad to see Marquez get another big payday, but I don't think the outcome of the fight would be any different than there first fight a rew years ago. He then said what first fight. After I told him about the first fight and how Floyd pretty much won every minute of the fight, he says well Marquez wasn't established as a good fighter back then. I said you are right he was already established as a great fighter but Floyd was and would always be a bad matchup for him stylistically. Well he went on to trash Floyd some more and then talked about how the two (RUSSIAN) heavyweight brothers are bad for boxing etc. and that they haven't fought anyone either. It's baseless idle chatter like that from clueless part time boxing fans, whom only watch the marquee fights that really gets my goat.
I have run across casuals with more frequency lately. It could be a sign that boxing is growing a little in popularity.
What I don't get is that they know so little yet try to act like they know a lot. If I'm ignorant on a subject I usually don't try to pretend that I'm expert.

And of course you forgot to inform him how Mayweather made Marquez come up three divisions and failed to make weight right?
Casual boxing fans............unfortunately they keep the wonderful world of boxing financed.
As much as I hate to say it, Stephen A Smith and Skip Baylesss with their ignorant rants continue to drum up interst in boxing. Even though combined they know less than the average 9 year old about boxing.
Off hand i remember Morales/Barerra all three but especially the first, Hearns/Hagler, Vazquez/Marquez all three, SRL/Duran, and Mayweather/Corrales, and Ali/Frazier. And others but tried to keep big names with good skilled fights to maintain interest.
''Khan would beat Hearns'' always makes me laugh.
maybe in a foot race but definately not in a boxing match

Those fights along with Corrales/Castilla, Holyfield/Bowe, Leonard/Hearns, just to name a few should make anyone love boxing.
What fights did you put on the list? Just out of curiosity.

Some dude that my friends know said Oscar De La Hoya was going broke because he wasn't boxing anymore. The guy kept going on and on. We laugh and thought to ourselves the guy signs Mayweather checks are you f**king kidding me.
I had to tell a guy that Vlad's jabs are like 70 pounds hitting you in the face ( not too far from the truth) everytime and that's why he should contiue watching the HW's.
Casual fans are what they are. I don't like the Klits but I'd be damned if a casual fan tried to dis any boxer. Any....
Lol you should of heard my school after Pac-Marquez 4..
"Yeah now Marquez should go fight Floyd."
-____- Even some of the black folks didn't even know May dominated Marquez already.
I especially love it when I mention something about Wlad or another HW fighting and they are like so when is Pac gonna fight him? Ummm........when Pac gains 170 pounds and sprouts up an extra 8 inches.
My bro-in-law is one of them. One day at a family gathering he tried to talkboxing and it was so frustrating that i stopped him and wrote a list of fights to watch and terms to learn so he can better his knowlwdge. Months later he isnt an expert and still doesn't understand the game but hes better to talk to and learning.

Use technical terms like "counterpunching" "swarming" "footwork" etc to throw off their rhythm :boxing:
Can't blame you. They piss me off too. I told a friend that I think Marquez might win. She was like "what??!!" (rabid pac fan obviously) as if that's such a crazy prediction. I asked her why she said that, her response "I dunno." Guess what? Completely owned after :nana:
Mayweather ducked Roy Jones!!
I love the casuals that have no sense of weight classes. Everything below heavyweight merges into one class apparently.
Lol I noticed that. But I always argue with them just to entertain myself.
ironically tho you want to encourage casual fans who are interesting in boxing
when i have a conversation like this i try and find things to agree with as much as possible and only correct them unless they are blatantly wrong... i might try and even suggest a fight or two to watch
but i rarely try and change the opinion of a casual fan unless they ask for it... just not worth it when the other person is so mis-informed and unlikely to admit it
ps. i don consider myself to be any kind of expert but i do follow the sport rather than just watch the marquee fights

Thats exactly what I did. He eventually folded but I was still kinda peeved.
