What does Bob Arum actually do?
Pacquiao is a superstar, why does he need Arum?
Why didn't Pacquaio leave him years ago and become his own promoter?
I mean, the fighters do all the pre-fight hype talking anyway.
No one pays any attention to senile Arum once he starts yapping anyway.
What does Arum do to deserve a cut off Pacquaio's check?
I understand a young fighter needing a promoter to sell him,
But once you reach the level of Pacquao, Mayweather, De La Hoya, etc
Why do you need a promoter?
But for the ignorant, who read and believe your goop, just let me say that Pacquiao is his own boss, and Arum works for him.
Would you say that Nonito Donaire is his own boss, and that Arum works for him?
One would imagine that you'd eventually get tired of your nonsense and begin to talk sense as I know you can. But for the ignorant, who read and believe your goop, just let me say that Pacquiao is his own boss, and Arum works for him. Arum can suggest fighters whom he believes will make good money opponents, and will direct oll the myriads of detailed work needed to put on a super promotion, and which needs maybe hundreds of people intermeshing all over the worlld at the same time. He takes a percentage, and he deserves every penny.
It is his work and planning alone which made MannyP the huge draw and global figure that he s today, the Phillippines National Hero and idol of millions. I'ts the sort of thing that makes him stand out head an shoulders above his fellow promoters and causes them to be so jealous of his success. The cretinous fans, follow suit, wishing him dead and mangled and all sorts of crap suitable for their little diseased minds.
I suppose that's what we have to put up with these days on a boxing site. But you Larry, needn't be encouraging them.
When you get done with all that he did sign to contracts at 1 time..and did hire a company to investigate arum on for arum to have them fired and for manny to get sued..are you denying this?
Arum reads contracts for Manny and tells him what to do,as you know Manny is not the smartest guy in the world,he signed to contracts at 1 time, brought in a company to audit Arum, found out Arum was ripping him off only to have Arum tell him to fire them, then the same company he hired ended up suing Manny.....so yea Manny isnt that damn bright

You have to recognize how much goes in to pulling off a boxing event worth 10's of millions of dollars. TV, Venue, Fighters, Commissions, Sanctioning Bodies, Doctors, ETC. You don't just pick two boxers, a venue and boom have a match like in a video game.
Bob Arum (with a little help from the Oscar fight), like him or not, made Manny Pacquiao into the celebrity he is, far surpassing any fame or financial gain that he would have reaped based on his pugilistic skills alone.
Pacquiao is a great boxer, but wouldn't ever in a million years reach the level of success he has, without the best promoter in the business behind him.
There are so many problems with this. First off, it would have been Floyd's biggest purse in history if he would have split the PPV like a normal person, so it goes both ways.
Second, Floyd's offer was simply to transfer $40 million to Pacquiao's bank account. Do you know how silly this? Pacquiao was/is under contract with Top Rank. Pac couldn't accept a fight and take $40 million and simply cut out Top Rank. Top Rank, but contract, would be obligated to promote his fight and of course in return, take a percentage of the purse. So Floyd's offer was never going to fly, as Top Rank wouldn't simply just say, "sure Floyd, you and golden boy promote this fight and we'll just sit back and not be involved in the richest fight in history!".
I don't understand why so many posters don't realize this.
Isn't that what Arum did with Donaire vs. Mares?
Sorta adding on to what Natas said, but when fighters attempt to promote themselves they rarely experience success (ie...BHop late 90s/early 2000s). The big name promotions simply won't do business with you. Why would they risk devaluing their commodity to possibly elevate one they have no controlling interest in?
There are no fighters that are their own promoters. Floyd & Cotto for example still use promoters to promote their fights, recently, Golden Boy.
The difference is they are free agents, thus they are in the position to get more of the cut then say someone who is under contract.
Pacquiao could have, should have, done the same thing. But to say a fighter doesn't need a promoter is ignorant. In recent years only Oscar was his own promoter, and it took a lot of money and the hiring of many people such as Richard Schaefer to set up Golden Boy. Maybe Felix Sturm is too I think in Germany.
As far as Bob Arum, he really isn't involved in the many details that goes into promoting the fights. That's the job of other Top Rank employees, such as todd duboef and others.
Was Roy Jones not his own promoter?
