in a recent article I read this
"From the way that he has conducted his career thus far, it appears that he only loves to stroke the fan base that sees him as a celebrity and he pays little attention to the hardcore fight fans who have actually made him the celebrity."
do you find this to be true? if you do or dont state some examples.
and before you morons say anything about how you can't tell if a boxer or athlte cares..
Marvin Hagler was breaking down.... during a dinner when they were showing videos of his fights but people were just walking around..
Hagler was extremely emotional and saying they should respect him and stop walking around because it's his very life on display.
Allen Iverson-- of the NBA. During his nuggets run.. went back to Philly and was clearly emotional as he ran around the 76ers arena with that hand to ear motion of his... doing it one more time for his former fans.. He was very clearly effected by their affection.
New York yankees Paul O'Neill tears filling his eyes as the entire NY arena chants his name.. again and again and again..
Ya... the truth is the vast majority of athletes DO get effected by fans appreciation..
You are right some do and some don't you can't expect every athlete to feel the same way

people were walking around(leaving) during floyd-baldomir and that made floyd cry.

Ok. so let me get this straight
If Floyd comes up and slap you in the face.. told you to eat shyt and die.
Force you to crawl between his legs and than urinate on your face..
You will still be his fan? Is that wat you are trying to tell us?
That if Floyd peed on your face.. you will still watch him because
'you like watching him box' despite the fact he went R Kelly on your face?
lmao..... boxing NEEDS more fans like you.
lmao.
You really missed his point

yeah i found his post to be a little odd too. maybe they have that complex where they like being abused? ive seen it in couple, like the wife/gf would stay with the abusive husband but i dont know for sure. some people like being ****ted on.
As for us fans, as much as I dislike the idea, we are nothing more and nothing less than potential "consumers" of a certain product.
Yeah, but we don't defend a product's defects.
the thing some people are starting to realize is that when he makes videos of himself flashing his money, they look at that and think "hey, that's my money" and i think they are finding it offensive to see their ppv money being flashed back in their faces. that's his shtick though so i guess he's gotta stick to it.
Wtf..? This post really made me laugh...
Floyd doesn't give the slightest **** about his fans. Maybe he did at one point, but those days are over.

He may go through the motions and sign some ****, take a photo, etc. here and there, but he's made it abundantly clear he doesn't give a **** what boxing fans think of him.
I doubt it can be genuine, how could somebody genuinely apprecciate a horde of unknown people?.
It's about marketing, and to an extent a nice ego stroke.
You think a clerk at a jewel shop is so very nice because he is really happy to see a client, or because he'd get his ass fired if he said what he really thinks ?.
Nobody would care about Floyd (or any other fighter) if he wasn't that good in the ring.

well there's always little things like personally flying out fans to his fights that get tattoos of him on their body (i think he's done this once or twice) and the smaller things like that.
No doubt, but you can see some fighters genuinely appreciate and are humbled by the support they receive, they're the types of characters you would support whereas others just don't care past the money you put in their pocket, salesmen and snakes. We all know fighters that fall into both brackets.

I don't care if he came out and said f**k off to all his fans, and to eat s**t and die. I like watching him box, I don't care what he thinks of the fans. He doesn't owe the fans anything, and I hate when people say professional athletes owe it to the fans....most of them, ESPECIALLY boxing fans, are full of s**t.
you'd still support him if he said that, as in you would buy all of his ppvs?

Fans don't expect material gifts or give them fights for free. All they want in return is see you fight often and fight the fights they want. But this Floyd guy is none of that. Yet fans of his defend him like he's the Messiah.
I watch Boxing TO BE ENTERTAINED...I don't need a Boxer to acknowledge me as a fan of theirs
when did boxing fans start feeling so entitled? Because you pay for PPV's...what is funny though is the people who do the most b1tching and complaining don't even pay for PPV's

I think Floyd appreciates his fans. He just can't please everyone, and attempting to do so would be an act of futility. Many bring up this alleged, uncaring description of him because: 1. He doesn't fight as often as many (fan or foe) would like. 2. He doesn't fight the fighters many would like to seem him fight.
I'm sure some of his fans lost interest in him because he and Pacquiao couldn't make the fight everyone wanted to see happen.
Regardless, he's got many adoring and admiring fans the world over no matter how anyone feels. And I'm pretty sure he's content with that.

You have to understand that some of this guys need affection, they need a fighter to tell them that they are fighting for them lol even though no fighter fights for his fans, fighters actually use that sheet to mug desperate fools like Ricky Hatton fans who sold their houses and put their money on him to beat Mayweather just because he told them to.
