It looks like Floyd is fighting Guerrero on May 4 and will then fight Canelo in September if he wins. This assumes both of them win May 4, which is probably not a bad bet, but who else can come close to matching Canelo's marketability after that?
Bradley does not look like a possibility since he is with Top Rank (not that popular either) and other top WWs like Devon Alexander and Paulie don't exactly have the biggest fan bases themselves. I also don't give them much of a chance either. Trout would be a possibility, but he is also relatively unknown even after beating Cotto and likely won't become more known unless he gets a shot at Canelo, which still seems unlikely.
Danny Garcia could move up I suppose, but he still has challenges at 140 after Judah like Matthysse and maybe even Rios. There is even the possibility of a Khan rematch if Khan continues to win. I'd also like to see him fight a Kell Brook, Devon Alexander, or Robert Guerrero at 147 before getting the shot. He also isn't that popular himself yet.
Martinez looks to be the most marketable opponent after Canelo and if he beats Chavez again in September he will likely gain a little more exposure. His status as a top P4P fighter could also likely be used to great effect in promoting a Mayweather-Martinez fight, so I believe it could be a pretty big fight. Martinez is also willing to fight Floyd at 154 or below if given time to try to lose the weight in a healthy manner (especially if it is below 154).
Floyd could also retire I suppose, but it does not look like he plans to retire in 2013 from what I have read. He also said he would fight around five more times after the Cotto fight, but he has not been consistent.
Also, let me know who you think Floyd should fight .
I think in the ring he seems similar but he definitely looks liked he's aged a lot since the Marquez fight.
In the face I mean, he looked like he's aged.
Definitely. His face looks like it's aged more now that he's approaching 36. I was just talking about in the ring. I think his hand and foot speed, reflexes, and overall ability against Cotto was about the same it was against Marquez and Mosley. I still think Manny a couple weeks ago looked about the same as he did against Margarito and Mosley, the difference were the opponents he was fighting.
If he beats Guererro and Canelo this year, I think he'll be retiring.
Hopefully he can fight Martinez in 2014 but that ship is sailing by quickly.
My thoughts exactly.
The biggest difference I saw from fight to fight for him was from Hatton to Marquez. I still said Floyd was prime when he fought Hatton at 30. When he came back against Marquez, he was still sharp as hell and quick, but he's slipped as far as movement and speed, just a bit. I don't really see too big a difference between Floyd in 2009-2010 and 2012 against Cotto, aside from the opponent in the ring with him.

I saw it too against Cotto but late in the fight. He can no longer move like that for all 12 rounds like he did against Baldomir, DLH, Hatton and Marquez. You could tell in the Mosley, Ortiz, and Cotto fights he was fighting a lot more stationary. He is smart though, he plays it off in interviews and says that it's just to please the crowd. But I don't think he can move like that for entire fights anymore. It's okay, he's 35, going to 36 afterall. He's not 25-26 years old anymore.

He didn't really move at all that much in the Hatton fight.
Yeah he can, he did several moments in the Cotto fight, notably early and late in the fight. It's just that Cotto has a pressure style most of the time he fights, and can physically impose his size on Mayweather, so Floyd had to fight off the ropes more.
Marquez couldn't impose his size, never tries to impose his size, and doesn't fight well when leading. That's why Floyd could just hang in the middle of the ring and out box him all night.

Marquez is actually the best contender, it's just that Floyd already beat him in a way that any one who knows about boxing knows that nothing different would happen in a rematch. Like Reed mentioned, Floyd outboxed Marquez, not bullied him or used his size or power. Floyd used his movement, counterpunching, handspeed, and the last bit of his reflexes which he no longer shows anymore. Mayweather-Marquez was Mayweather's last true perfect performance where he showed everything he could do and he basically did it while being rusty and coming off a 2 year lay off. He can no longer move like that.

It's a sad time in the ww division where Guerrero, a good fighter is considered the only true contender to a great fighter such as Floyd.

Criticizing Floyd for fighting Robert Guerrero is like criticizing Manny for fighting Clottey, De La Hoya for fighting guys like Carr and Quartey, Mosley fighting Collazo, etc. These guys aren't world beaters or amazing fighters, but at the times they fought them, they were legit top ranked WW's and solid wins.
He said he wouldn't fight "PAST 37". So he didn't say he wouldn't fight at 37, he won't fight past it.
I think he'll fight 3 more times.
I could see Danny Garcia (if he gets a good win at 147), Tim Bradley (once he gets away from Top Rank), and I don't know who else. You never know what could happen.
Austin Trout could stay on a run, Kell Brook with his UK following could turn out to be the real deal, Khan could end up beating Garcia and/or Matthysse or some s**t, and than move up to 147 and get a good win.
You never know what could happen.
The RING 154 pound rankings are crap, and you already know why (GB). The only way Floyd should be considered the lineal champ at 154 is if he fights and beats Austin Trout.
You're not understanding my post. If Floyd fights Canelo in September, is because Canelo has already beaten Trout in May 4th. That would eliminate Trout from the Mayweather sweepstakes. Even if Canelo beats some one else, like Angulo or Trout, that's still a good enough win to setup Mayweather-Canelo. Trout can wait and fight Canelo after Mayweather is done with him. That's business.
Something to consider, if Canelo actually fights Trout, he'll fail, and Floyd certainly won't fight Trout. Alexander is all risk, no reward. Bradley is very beatable for Floyd and is starving for a big money fight since he got nowhere from fighting Pac.
Bradley is with Top Rank though, so that may be hard to get done.

The only thing I know for sure is that Floyd will fight Guerrero on May 4th and fight again in September. Nobody from Golden Boy or team Mayweather has yet said his September opponent will be Canelo so that is just an assumption not a fact. I don't think he will fight Canelo in September but that is the fight I would like the most. When Team Mayweather say they will fight Canelo I will believe it and not before then. I voted for Marquez to get another shot at Floyd. The first fight was a long time ago and things have changed. Floyd seems to be slipping from the Cotto fight and Marquez seem much better at a higher weight than he was against Floyd.
Maybe he won't, but it does look like it is being set up.

My dream would be for them to fight each other and retire on the same night, but they just aren't on the same path. Only way they meet in the ring is if Martinez goes down to 154 and beats Canelo first. I don't see Floyd taking the risk otherwise.
Martinez apparently only wants three more fights including the Murray bout, while Floyd seems open to fighting through 2014 and then retiring. They could fight in 2014 then.
I doubt Canelo fights Martinez anytime soon since he has yet to fight a live body at JMW, but stranger things have happened I suppose.
I know it may be difficult for Martinez to secure the fight, but I do think he is the most marketable opponent after Canelo.
Or he could fight another older fighter like Sergio Martinez, which could be something of a legacy fight for both.
