The man's a joke, he has maybe 2 good wins at best
And the funny thing is nobody cared about him until he beat the only other MW with more undeserved hype
Middleweight isn't a glamorous division to be in right now, there are not a lot of high profile fights to be made. Sergio payed his dues and deserves the #1 spot
Golovkin is open to fighting Martinez and Dibella said ''no one knows who he is'' and then goes ahead and fights murray
Pac is too small for Martinez as well can't fault him not fighting Sergio
I do think Golovkin has great potential, but his biggest win is against Proksa, which ain't bad. It just isn't that impressive either. At this point Golovkin is still high risk-low reward for Sergio since he has not been able to establish a big fan base since other contenders seem to avoid him.
Sergio is turning 38 soon and is just now getting big money fight opportunities, so I can understand why they would avoid someone like Golovkin. I'm not saying Murray is anything special, although he is a credible opponent, but the Brits tend to be pretty good fans. That is probably the secondary reason they prefer Murray to Golovkin. I see this fight as maybe Sergio's last "small" money fight. At least that may be what he is planning on as he intends to at least fight Chavez again and maybe get a shot at someone like Floyd or Canelo.

And Huck's a smack head.

You cant talk **** on a man's resume if none of the big names in his division will fight him.
****ing Top Rank moved to Showtime for a year rather than put Cotto in there with him.
Angulo turned down his biggest payday rather than fight him.
Pacquiao fought for the title they stripped off Martinez but wouldn't fight the real champion.
Canelo says his name but has no intentions of fighting him.
Floyd would rather fight welterweights at 154.
why would Pirog be a Top middleweight by beating a prospect for the belt Martinez vacated a few months earlier how is he comparable to Trout?
if anything that fight is like Martinez fighting Trout right now I don' think many people would complain about Martinez vs trout until after Martinez wins ofcourse
Pirog was a top 5 MW I believe, sure he beat a prospect but the division was pretty weak at the time. Its starting the get better with fighters like Golovkin, Quillin and Geale. Those are the fighters he should be facing but he most likely wont.

well he was. martinez already fought pavlik and williams and the division wasn't very strong at that time. dzinziruk wasn't a top middleweight or a middleweight at all.
he's definitely a fine fighter and a top 10 pfp but i would have him a bit lower on the pfp ranking than most just because of lack of top competition. i don't see him as being in same class as jmm, floyd or ward right now, but if he has a a couple of good wins..
He would look nowhere near as good if he was in there with elites
It's very rare when true "elite" fighters find themselves in the same division at the same time. According to my definition of "elite", there are only a couple near his division: Mayweather and Ward. There are none in his division. I don't consider Martinez to be an elite, and I don't think he has the time to achieve that status. That doesn't mean that he isn't of a higher caliber than the majority, but he just isn't part of that few at the top of the mountain. I think beating two of the titlists (Geale/Golovkin/Quillin) would give him that push he needs to make a fight with a notable name at 154. I still think that Canelo will fight Sergio when he starts to visibly decline. All Martinez has to do is bide his time and stay healthy. Cleaning out the MW division will make Sergio a valuable commodity, but the right fights have to be made in order for him to get that opportunity.
that's because williams wanted a catchweight. martinez was fighting at 160. dzinziruk at 154. why would i want martinez to fight a 154 pound fighter instead of a top middleweight belt holder? makes no sense. that's like saying i want canelo to fight senchenko instead of trout. why would anyone want that?

Martinez weighs in at 157 his last fight against Williams so there was no "fighting a 154 pounder" complaint I really think that had he fought a Pirog instead and dzinziruk was still undefeated today you would flipped your argument there is really no pleasing some fans

dzinziruk had no hype. he was champ for years and no one cared about him. after the martinez-dzinziruk fight was made people started singing his praises but not before. no one wanted that fight and no one was saying martinez was ducking dzinziruk. they were saying he was ducking pirog because he was to take an easy fight against a 154 pounder with a robot style.

dzinziruk was undefeated and very hyped at 154 kind of like Lara and Pirog were people around here were calling for that fight but ofcourse after geting knocked out he is called a bum

bull.........at middleweight he could have fought Geale, Pirog, Golovkin. all A class middleweights.
& rating someone based on ability is like me saying broner is p4p number 5 due to potential and ability........same thing.
:haha::haha::haha:
He came on late in his career. I think for a while he was getting overrated but now days he seems to be rated fairly and most people dont consider him an ATG but consider him a good fighter which he is. I think Winky was a better fighter just as a comparison for example
Even many of his biggest fans on here said he was no ATG. At least not yet.
why would anyone want sergio to fight dzinziruk? they weren't even in the same division and no one cared about dzinziruk. that was a cherry pick extraordinaire.

Pirog's biggest win is against a prospect and it isn't as if Geale has proven that much either. Murray and Macklin put in similar efforts against Sturm and he had the benefit of seeing both of those fights before he got his chance.
