Besides who Floyd chose to fight??? Had two opinions on the subject wanted more....
I don't see the big difference in Guerrero and Williams or Ortiz for that matter situation besides the fact of who Floyd chose to fight.....
They're both still making steps to be a known name at the weight right (Guerrero Ortiz and at a time Williams)??? I see parallels in the Guerrero-Berto win Ortiz-Berto win and Williams-Margarito win..... All coming off the biggest wins of their career and fight of the year candidates...... Do you think its a coincidence he just happened to match up better with both Guerrero and Ortiz???
I think its safe to say Floyd avoided this match up (don't blame him)..... Am I off base??? If so how???
Anyone who honestly thinks Mayweather should have fought Paul Williams in December 2007 instead of Ricky Hatton, is just......I don't know. It's just idiotic. No one wanted Floyd-Williams over Floyd-Hatton at the time. People only say that because Floyd ended up stopping Hatton.
Ahhh, yes!! The good ole Floyd (would have). Yes, Floyd would have beaten the Punisher, so he fought a weaker guy.
He would have beaten Martinez, so he'll just fight ginger.
He would have beaten Margarito, so he just fought Judah, yeah bro, I know.So is it stupidity or ignorance that causes you to ignore/dismiss the politics of professional boxing?
He should have fought Williams when Williams was on a very good win streak and begging him for a fight. Williams would probably been a very hard fight for Floyd with his reach, southpaw style and over 100 punches a round workrate. No welterweight wanted to fight Williams at that time and Floyd did not want to fight him. We all know cash cow Floyd can get any fight he wants. I am glad he is fighting Guierrero because Guerrero earned that fight with two good wins in a row over rated welterweights. I like the Floyd-Guerrero fight but that doesn't change the fact that he should have fought Williams back then.
not really. they weren't even in the same division and hatton got clobbered in his only welterweight fight. floyd, espn, and brian kenny liked to pretend floyd was avoiding guys like hatton and baldomir but that was all a farce in order to avoid the real threats in the division. classic deflection.
Not true at all, as a matter of fact, the legend of Mayweather ducking Hatton started after Hatton beat Tszyu. Even after Hatton's camp stated they weren't ready to fight Mayweather at '40, Mayweather was still coined as avoiding Hatton .
Again, nobody, not even the hardcore boxing fans were gung-ho for Mayweather-Williams after the DLH fight. If anything, the TR stans were the ones complaining after the Hatton fight.
You're forgetting that all through 2006 and the first half of '07, Mayweather was ducking Hatton. At that time, PWill was just starting to make a name at welterweight. Even those of us who knew the potential PWill had then weren't clamoring for Mayweather-Williams after DLH.
I understand what your point is here, MJ, I actually agree that PWill had a style that could have been troublesome to Mayweather, but to imply that Mayweather ducked Williams...

I'm not saying he should have fought Williams over Hatton.... I get why he chose Hatton.... It was the bigger fight..... I'm saying he could have showed the slightest interest in a Williams fight.... And since he didn't its entirely plausible to say that he avoided him
Williams fits his recent profile for choosing fights.... Coming off a fight of the year candidate the biggest win of his career and a titlist..... I just think its ironic that hes the only one Floyd didn't match up well with compared to Ortiz and Guerrero

Maybe Mayweather could have just thrown lead hooks when he's already on the inside, right?
Williams just beat Tony and was a serious threat to Floyd at the time
Floyd had an easier, more lucrative, and legit Hatton fight in the works
Ortiz beat weakass Berto for one of Floyd's beloved WBC belts
Floyd wanted none of Pac, so Ortiz was the logical choice
Pac's done even if Floyd did grow the balls to fight him now
nothing wrong with Floyd fighting Guerrero, the fight is legit
If Floyd fought Williams people would have never forgot him to avoid Hatton.
Problem with Floyd is that he has to fight everybody to shut people's mouth. If there are 3 fighters , X Y and Z and he fights Y and Z, people will only say that he ducked X.
Thing is the Hatton fight was waaaaaaaayyy more lucrative than a fight against Williams.

The Punisher would have smashed Floyd, he knows it. That's why he didn't fight him.
I agree to much reach and too many punches Probably stops Floyd with to many punches coming at him
LOL Please,It is to easy to hit Williams,Floyd would have boxed his ears off

I would have liked for Mayweather to fight P will at that time. It's one of those fights that should have happened but didn't. Mayweather retired at the end of 07 . While Cotto vs Mosley, P will vs Margarito, clottey vs Cotto and Margarito vs Clottey was happening while Mayweather sat back and watch these WW go at it. Now thats a coincidence.
