Look, I'm not saying that this is some sort of ATG or career defining victory for Pac, but people just tend to sweep this one under the rug as if Pac beat some sort of cab driver. Clottey was a huge welterweight (rehydrating to 170lbs I believe). He gave everybody problems in the division. He was on his way to beating Margarito before he broke his hand, beat Judah & Corrales, and lost a very debatable decision to Cotto that many felt he won (I personally thought Cotto won, but have no problem with people saying otherwise). Pac completely shut him out. It was a good, solid victory for him. Nothing special, but certainly not a joke of a victory that people make it out to be.

Yeah sure Clottey definitely had some obvious flaws... I do think he got more fatigued than he let on though, not sure how considering his poor punch output. I'd have to watch it again but the last few rounds against Cotto he looked pretty tired.
Didn't seem tired to me. Watched ringside and several times recorded as well. Just seemed like typical Joshua. At least we didn't get a "my hand is paining me" like he did against Margarito or just start butting his opponent like he did against Baldomir (although that headbutt against Cotto was pretty suspect and his pretending to suffer a bad leg injury after that fall was downright hilarious).
He can definitely take a shot. And he is quite the skilled fighter. But all that goes out the window when you stand up to him. It's why he tends to "fade" in the latter rounds although it's clear he's hardly fatigued.

I was talking more about his actual punch resistance rather mental toughness. Looking back i already covered that with 'strong'...

Clottey is strong but not tough. He looks for a way out of a fight when under duress unless he has no choice but to fire back. But he'll do his best to get out, such as using headbutts (Baldomir), feining injury or he'll flat out stop fighting. I picked him to quit against Pacquiao and he did--just not in the way I anticipated.

Completely agree with TS.
Clottey was a big and strong welterweight, he was supremely tough and when he let his hands go was quick and hit hard.
Problem was he only let his hands go when his opponent stopped punching, which for Pac during this era was never. Hence why it looks like Clottey didnt try in the fight, he did what he always does, its just that pacs style was perfect for him. Call it 'good matchmaking' maybe, but it takes ridiculous fitness, power, and footwork to shut out Clottey over 12.

lol true...but i think the fear of ending up like cotto had something to do with it as well because i think in an interview he did with max kellerman he said something about not wanting to go out like cotto did (and how could you blame him). but clottey is a decent fighter...he gave cotto hell, and is a strong fighter. understandably, his performance against pacquiao turned a lot of people off. but it was a decent win..much better than beating margarito and mosley.
Damn i bet Bob Arum was pissed if Clottey said that! One thing you dont want a fighter to say is that hes scared (ask Vic Ortiz).
Despite this i didnt see that much different in Clottey against Pac than i did against Cotto. He just isnt a risk taker, and against this version of Pac the risk was always there right in his face, banging him to the body and head/arms, whereas against Cotto, Clottey had opportunities to attack while Cotto wasnt punching.
I may be a little bias because i was proper high on Clottey back in the day! Dude was just so damn tough!
Completely agree with TS.

Clottey felt Pac's power and didn't want to fight. It was a good win for pac even though it was a one sided beat down. Now Clotttey picture is on a milk carton missing in action.
YFR(Yeah ****ing Right) lol...Did MP even land cleanly? NO! IMO MP was pretty lucky clottey didnt fight throughout the fight cause the punches that clottey did land, landed with ease knocking MP face back..
A Guerrero-like win.
TS is just a cowardly alt that's trolling.
These simpletons love to over rate Clottey just because Floyd didn't fight the bum. What's even worse is they look past the fact that Pac ducked Floyd to fight the losing bum that didn't deserve a fight like that.
Some overrate it, some underrate it.
He did shut Clottey down with his activity. That's just how Clottey responds to that kind of fighter.
However, give him the right kind of opponent and he'll overachieve (Cotto).
LOL at this trolling alt.
It is an extremely over rated win and the beginning of the largest duck in the history of the sport. Not only did Pac duck out of a 50-50 split ($50-100 million pay day), he also ducked out on testing that he has yet to ever do.
For what? A pos that has had one decent win over Zab Judah? He was a losing in house bum that hadn’t won a meaningful fight in years (if ever). He was a fast an easy way to duck out of the fight.
LOL at you kiddies trying to over rate that fight. We get it folks, life for the pactarts REALLY sucks, hopefully the shelters provide you guys with warm meals and a shoulder to cry on but in the meantime stfu with your BS trolling threads.
It's just pathetic now.
LOL at this troll. How is it an overrated win if the whole point of my thread is that it's underrated? Pac got ktfo'd by a great fighter in marquez. That's not the point of this thread. I'm not trying to turn this into another pac may thread. It's been beaten to death already. Clottey was a good victory for pac. Nothing more, nothing less.
Clottey = Overrated win for Pacquiao
This was a joke of a fight. I really think Clottey took a dive. If wanted to he could have won the fight. Instead he tucks himself into his turtle shell to let Pacquiao have heavy bag practice on him.
After which he takes his $1.5M "performance" bonus from Jerry Jones and whatever hush money Arum gave him and fades off into the sunset.
Seriously, can anyone honestly say what "performance" that Clottey displayed that was worthy of receiving a bonus?:burnup::burnup:
