It will create enough interest and hype to sell more than a Pavlik fight.
Sergio is a pound for pound elite.
Legacy wise Ward needs this to revive whatever is left of a tainted/suspect/arguably "well manipulated" career (i.e Ward fighting at home)
Not since the great Roberto Duran has it been achieved.
Hard work and a great belief in GOD wins fight -That's from Ward himself
If Sergio gets beat Ward's career/legacy will be underwhelming considering how his fans hype him up to be.
Despite Sergio's unprecedented success as a middleweight he is naturally a super welter. Ward is too big for Martinez. Period.
Chavez Jr. almost took out Martinez on size alone.
What's confusing about this?? Martinez is a giant killer.
Ward is too much to ask however. Stupid proposal.
I find it hard to believe that a 37 year old can have an easier time making 154 ( a weight he has not made in over 3 years) over a 28 year old making 168 lbs. Could it be that people want Martinez to make 154 over Ward making 160 because they want Floyd to be at size disadvangtage fighting Sergio ..knowing skill for skill, Floyd would beat Martinez.
Ward has said himself he cant make 160..... Don't know what else your looking for
Andre Ward can't make 160. Sergio Martinez can make 154. That's the difference between Mayweather-Martinez and Martinez-Ward.

I'm trying to find the video right now, but Ward said right after the Dawson fight that a fight with Martinez is unlikely because they likely don't want to come up, and that going down to 160 would be very counterproductive for him given the fact one of the main reasons he moved up to 168 years ago because he was QUOTE "Killing himself to make it", not to mention Ward has said numerous times going up to 175 is coming soon. A Martinez fight is no good for either fighter, and BOTH have agreed on that. Ward can't go down, and Martinez can't go up.
End of thread, save for the trolls.
Not to mention, I believe also that Ward did in fact offer to possibly go down to 164 for a catch weight, and I believe Martinez' camp said it was a no go. So, I mean, end of story, this isn't going to happen, and even if it did one of them if not both of them would be at a disadvantage.
Oh yea, and before anyone starts the"Oh, well Dawson came down" s.hit, Dawson called Ward out there, not to mention Dawson had said going down to 168 for big fights was a serious option, and he said this before the SMW tournament started and before Ward was even a top fighter.
no he didn't he specifically said no catchweight to a possible Martinez fight and as far as chad calling him out he wanted to fight him at 172 that was the perfect opportunity for him to capture the lineal WBC and rind belts at LHW

Martinez is 38. His time left is extremely limited. He wants the best name possible on his record. Floyd is p4p no. 1. Martinez is willing to fight at a weight where Floyd holds a belt.

Ward is at SMW and has mentioned a move up to LHW
how the hell is he gonna drop to MW?
and why would he anyway? he doesn't need Martinez
he has a better resume than him and is probably better known
agreed, ward fights very similar to floyd mayweather. their styles vary slightly but their ring IQ is on par with one another
the only reason I favor martinez over floyd is the size advantage, he doesn't have that against ward which is why ward easily wins that fight
Thank you.
Sergio is the man but ward is way to clinical for him imo!!

We have no proof that Ward can't make 160 lbs....he's never said he couldn't. Ward use to fight at 160 lbs...find me a quote from Ward where he said he can't make 160 lbs.
"I would love to fight Martinez but I don't think it is possible because of the weight. Martinez's people say that he is a small middleweight and they are right. They say that if I go down to 160 then a fight could happen but I don't think that is possible."
Andre Ward
Thank u.....
Martinez if he was truly great would move up 1 division and fight Ward at 168 before Ward leaves the division.
I doubt it happens though.
I think Martinez's camp is scared of Andre Ward.
Yes, my point is that Martinez calls out Mayweather, but Mayweather is proportionally smaller than Martinez it is with respect to Ward
Well, they admit he would lose. Floyd's father as well his two uncles say Floyd would beat Martinez.
Martinez is also older than Mayweather, while Ward is just entering his physical prime. Ward may very well be just as skilled as Mayweather, but bigger and younger.
Martinez has even offered a catchweight as low as 150 for Mayweather (tons at his age), while Ward mentioned going down just four pounds once from what I can recall despite the fact he is much younger than Martinez.
Martinez-Ward would be a big fight, but not nearly as big as Martinez-Mayweather, so there is that aspect of it too.
Martinez' team thinks Sergio would lose to Ward and never want him to fight above 160. They are pretty clear about that.
Ward may already be the P4P best, is like 9 years younger than Sergio , and bigger, so I could see why they would want to avoid that fight.
It'd be nice if Martinez would challenge himself further, but I think he would lose as well.

Ward offered a cach weight at 164 and the Martinez team say no. Martinez want to fight Mayweather who is so small, but no Ward and is not for the side is for the talent of Ward

Because Ward would be stupid to drop down to 160. Could he physically make it? maybe. Would it weaken him? Absolutley. Dawson was misguided enough to think it would work but we know how that turned out. Just becasue a fighter can make a weight, does not mean they should.
