Floyd-Sergio > Floyd-Canelo

Floyd-Sergio at 154 or lower makes sense to me especially if Floyd is willing to fight Canelo who is the same size as Martinez on fight night and is 15 years younger. Canelo also has not offered a catch weight, while Martinez has. Don't you think it should be the younger man who has to do that? Floyd has also demanded a catch weight out of Sergio. If Floyd gives Sergio the 6 months to a year Sergio has asked for to lose the weight necessary for a 152 or 150 catchweight in a healthy manner then I still think this is a better fight than almost anything else Floyd could do. It's very possible Martinez would be weight-drained or would have to sacrifice some muscle mass, but he is still a top P4P fighter and I do think if you give him the time he would make the most of it. Even at his age with more time he may be able to do a better job than Dawson did. Even if Floyd does end up fighting Canelo in September what are his options after that if he wins? Martinez-Mayweather is a very marketable fight between two fighters widely considered to be in the top 5 P4P who won't have much more time to compete at an advanced level given their respective ages. It may not be as big as Floyd-Canelo, but it could still make a lot of money. Furthermore, Sergio has certainly proven more than Canelo. Canelo has maybe fought one live body at 154 (depends what you think of Rhodes), but otherwise has beaten up on old, blown-up WWs or a blown-up JWW in the case of Lopez. I know he is young, but he needs to start taking on some bigger risks. Someone like Keith Thurman would be a step-up since he is young and hungry as well.

Floyd vs Sergio would be a fight for real boxing fans, but unfortunately there's a lot more money to be made elsewhere. This is Martinez at 157 pounds (he'd only have to lose 3 more pounds) during the weigh-in vs Macklin. If Floyd beat Sergio at 154,ya'll would say he drained a 37 year old He would be 38 or 39 by the time they fought probably, but Floyd is old himself, so I don't see how that could be used against him here. If he gives Sergio the time he asks for then I have no problem.

Why drain sergio, let floyd fight at 160, skills win fights, his own words. But he doesnt wanna fight a skilled big man. Power and size can definitely make a difference in a fight if the two fighters are remotely close in terms of skills, so I don't see why Floyd should be expected to fight Sergio at 160.

I don't think Cotto and Pacquiao would have ever fought Martinez. I never said it would be easy, but if you give him a year (6 months at least) to do it then I think he would not be a zombie.

Looking vulnerable at 154 would get him the fight. But Martinez isn't going to move down unless its for Mayweather, that much is evident. Honestly, its a fight that won't happen, I don't think, for many reasons on both sides. I think he would seriously consider moving down for Canelo or go down to like 156 for him. I could also see him going down for Trout if he continues to build a name for himself, but that is less likely given time constraints.

Sergio called out Mayweather for the last two years. I do think Sergio would seriously consider fighting Canelo, but I can understand why he wants to fight in Argentina since the government is practically begging him too and it is his home. He may have fought Canelo in September, but it looks like Canelo is being groomed for Floyd in September, so how exactly can Sergio put pressure on Floyd to fight him? Should he fight someone like Carlos Molina or Austin Trout over Chavez in September? The fact remains that Chavez gives him more notoriety and money than Trout would at the moment. At 38 Sergio has to think about this. That's all fine. But it isn't going to get Sergio a fight with Mayweather. He seems fine with that.

The benefit is money and there is still the potential for it to be a legacy fight. Sergio is still a top P4P fighter. It is still a lot more marketable than say an Alexander fight. If Floyd gives him the time he has requested then no one should attack him for taking the fight. he's not fighting either guy bro somehow, someway, they're gonna flirt or crack a million ppv buys vs Guerrero...this will be enough proof that Floyd can fight a nobody and still hit numbers..there wont be any risk taking at this point of Floyd's career..he saw what happened to PAC when you take too many risks he'll fight Guerrero, take some time off and they'll probably start, as ridiculous at it sounds, talkin about a rematch with Marquez If Marquez is still fighting at least we know he will probably perform better at the higher weight now then he did then, although it still isn't a good stylistic match-up for Marquez. It still looks like the Canelo fight is being set-up and haven't some of Floyd's family members talked about it as well?

I want to see it, but with every fight where Sergio doesn't prove he can make 154, my enthusiasm lessens more. The benefit is money and there is still the potential for it to be a legacy fight.
